Yes and no. Daft Punk and Justice don't belong on the EDM side even though they are cited as some of EDM's biggest inspirations.
Though, to lump Skrillex, Gesafflestein, and deadmau5 with some of Afrojack's and Hardwell's worst projects misleads some of the better musical output some of these names have put out. Even guys like Four Tet and Benga could be considered to be EDM or working with EDM artists.

The best way to look at ''EDM'' is its basically the modern ''rave'' for the USA. Its an era, a scene and it has a specific range of styles and artists, just like in the rave era in England 90-94.

There was lots of other techno,house and different dance music at that time too, but only certain styles/artists were ''rave''.
