It's doom metal just by the way it's played. Slow, foreboding guitar riffs. There's nothing psychedelic about it. 60s psychedelic rock is generally faster, bouncy and less foreboding as well. For the 60s it's incredibly heavy and rivals some of the stuff on Black Sabbath's self-titled. Even the lyricism itself is pretty metal for its time period. Have some more doom metal that predates Sabbath.

I disagree. I already know that album but thanks for the rec. Heaviness and metal are two different things despite most metal being heavy, you could play a saxophone tune but that wouldn't be jazz. It's not about speed either, it's a specific riffing style.
The think is with big bands and influence is that as they're popular, people go on to copy their style, which, isn't a genre by itself, but through many bands imitating a certain band a genre is made. BS made metal almost because people copied their style, which said style becomes the metal genre

I'd say that the Clear Light song can be compared to Black Sabbath (song), although I wouldn't necessarily call it a ''straight'' metal song. I might say that Paranoid was where metal was solidified into full album although there are songs on the debut which have the riffs; like Wizard
