i want to hear opinions on grime from someone who is not english.
I'd like to add to this as well.
Is Skepta actually getting popular in the US or is that just a meme they're trying to shove down our throats to make us feel better about our genre that hasn't managed to evolve past shitty radio sets and boring lyrics?
I lived in the US around the time That's Not Me came out, and I didn't hear a thing about him. Now he's apparently pretty big there but I don't buy it.
I think if anything he's redeeming himself from when he sold out a few years ago, everything he's released that's been gaining attention over there has been mint, imo
No point of him selling out desu.
He's at his most successful point in his career and he's doing that with grime music. Why release another pop single when the grime single is selling more? He tried pop. Didn't work. This is working. If he's not an idiot, he'll stick to what's working.
Konnichiwa will be grime album with a few UK features and a few American features. And I know grime fans like to shit on him, but I reckon it'll be a breath of fresh air for the genre.
For those interested, JME is literally streaming Rainboy 6 on Twitch right now at twitch/BadmanOnline.
This is an actual thing that's happening.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vj0LSLkxhKc shitty video, but there are a few other similar ones, people in the US know his songs, Drake brought him out at OVO as well, and I'm pretty sure he's on a tune with Flatbush Zombies
He's not pretty big, still pretty underground in the US but definitely gaining attention
Nah he's not all that popular. He's just getting a bit of attention from being with kanye and drake.
Also,I think grime is pretty good. First time I heard of grime was when FIFA street came out and Dizzee Rascal had a song on there that I liked.
Give this a listen, awesome freestyle by, imo, one of my favourite MCs at the minute.
Yeah that's the one, that entire EP is pretty fucking great desu
I really like some of Novelist's stuff but the tracks he's released recently have been average as fuck desu.
Grime is too intensely regional for its own good. Also this shite about "it's not an album genre" is annoying. I think Wiley was saying there's a lot of Grime artists who find the transition from MC to artist incredibly difficult. That's true, that needs to be fixed.
>Also this shite about "it's not an album genre" is annoying
I cannot fucking stand this. This is my main criticism with the genre.
"It's not an album genre" just means that all the MCs aren't good enough to entertain anyone beyond shouting the same boring lyrics about beating people up over and over and over again.
Yeah I fully agree with you there man, I like the one he did with Chase and Status, didn't really like Endz and Linking Gash is pretty meh but it's a laugh either way, fun to listen to. His track with Murlo is next level. I think he's been on a noticeable decline since he left the square but still rate him
The Frisco x Chase and Status collab was the best to come out of that series, I reck.
I liked the Bonkaz one the most personally.
Frisco's was way too repetitive. I get that the song's called Funny but that doesn't mean you have to fucking remind us every 5 seconds.
There have been good grime albums though. It's been done and it works REALLY REALLY well when it's done right. Boy In Da Corner and Home Sweet Home are 2 of my overall favourite albums to listen to.
Problem is that most of these MCs that rap over grime beats are just fucking gimmicks with no actual ability.
Fair fair, those two are easily my favourite, with Giggs and Novelists being the worst.
And yeah I can agree with that. I like grime most of the time but if it's one thing that happens a lot that really gets on my tits, it's the same word over and over again, like Amen on the newest JME album.
This. JME's History is a good example of grime working well as an album, even though I probably enjoy that album way more than I actually should kek
graimza mūzika ir ļoti laba, bet es ienīstu viņu kā cilvēku
>femeniste UN viņa smird
man arī nepatīk viņas balsi
>implying chip can run out of bars
baka desu senpai
>go to grime show
>looking forward to hearing some great rappers over some cool sounding instrumentals
>rapper comes out in worn down tracksuit from Sports Direct
>Rhythm N Gash comes on
>rapper starts shouting into the microphone about beating people up
>about 5 seconds in, a rewind sound comes out of nowhere
>everyone goes crazy and starts screaming "BRAP"
>beat starts again
>rapper starts his shouting from the beginning
>gets 5 seconds further this time
>starts over again
>tfw a 2 minute song takes over 5 hours to finish
Why do people take this shit seriously?
Honestly I think this just depends on the DJ. Some are really shit and just literally reload anything that gets the slightest reaction from the crowd, instead of saving it for the really really hypest moments.
You also have to remember that the vast majority of grime fans are year 11s who just fully abuse MD every weekend
Wretch 32 is 100% the best rapper in the UK. Shame his music is so poppy. This freestyle he did recently is fucking incredible both lyrically and flow-wise.
I hope he makes a return to grime at some point because someone with this man's untouchable talent is much needed.
Problem with grime is that the youth in the UK aren't bothered with grime anymore.
The one's that are are either little white kids who wouldn't actually make grime themselves, and roadmanz who can't actually make grime themselves. The actual youth that matter don't give a shit. They're doing shit like this.
pretty good desu
i like how the brits clearly enunciate everything they say, that's why the 140 bpm flow works for them
grime > trap rap
The very same man. He even has a song with JME now.
He has too much fucking money. Dude lives in a penthouse in London next to the Olympic Stadium. Drives a Lamborghini. YouTube gaming is a crazy thing.
Some (only a few) MCs can put out decent sets but can't do it on albums for some reason. This set is better than any Grime LP I've heard and probably my second or third favourite Grime related things after a couple of Macabre Unit sets.
holy shit this is fucking amazing
do you happen to have the download? mediafire link is broken
