I haven't listened to it, cover looks nice
Also you're welcome familia
I'm always impressed that they pulled this album off. Following up Disco Volante must have been a real challenge, that album was spectacular and really something special. California is just as good as DV but for different reasons
haven't listened to it in a decade. saw them play it live. find the music that influenced the record more interesting than the record itself, and at this point in my life am not sure i ever need to revisit it.
listen to very little past '75 or so, and don't enjoy a lot of free jazz a la brotzmann. have pretty mainstream taste now and enjoy melodies/harmonies more than pure virtuosity/intellectual/experimentation. which, going back to bungle, may explain why i prefer old exotica and reverby guitar/surf twang records.
Give it 1 more shot, it's really great. Do it for Spruance
I've never listened to this
I enjoy the albums I've heard so far but they are less than ten and pretty entry level (a love supreme, Ascension, bitches brew, kind of blue, mingus ah um etc ).
What should I check next?
Certainly the best Patton related project. Honestly I don't listen to it much but I've got the urge to after this thread. It's got so many great hooks. Probably got me into more 'eccentric' music in general. Like all gateway albums it gets shat on for no good reason.
>SWEET CHARITY OBAMA HEY OBAMA HEY OBAMA HEY
>THEEEEERE'S JUUUUUST FIIIIIIVE HOOOOURS AND THEN YOU WILL FIND ME DEAD
>I'M FINALLY NAAAAKED
>CHAK CHAK CHAK CHAKKACHAKKACHAKKACHAKKACHAKKACHAKKACHAKKA CHAK
i'm amazed there aren't more memes about this album besides sporks tbqh. it's pretty much a walking meme
fucking amazing tho
i give it 7.5/10 for the group
a 6/10 for a patton album
i prefer this one
I bought it and enjoyed a few songs but overall
didn't really get into it. I should revisit it.
Enjoyable but I got no insight into the culture. Wish
it would be easier to follow.
I honestly haven't heard it but if it's anything like the rest of bungle I'd probably like some of it and feel sick listening to other parts of it
It's good even if most of it sounds too similar
interesting that this board went years without a fnm/patton/bungle mention.
and since the new fnm album dropped, it's built to memeology, to this point: where teens can't shut the fuck up about patton/bungle, yet simultaneously having nothing actually to say about it.
like patton's the thinking man's pitbull
Haven't listened to the whole thing. However, from the bits I've heard it is totally up my damn alley and I'll love it.
Love it, but I feel like a pleb. I need to get deeper and more into jazz and truly understand it, before ti becomes a lost artform.
The early demo stuff is pretty good. Bloody Mary and grizzly Adams are pretty standout tracks
Also the two Disco Volante's two b-sides, Coldsore and Lemmy Caution are cool
There were two California songs that were never released sadly. A short song written by Dunn and a ABBA inspired song by Spruance I would kill a man in cold blood to hear that shit
>you will never have Patton's warranted smugness
