Cartoons and albums thread?
This is the ITAOTS of cartoons.
Why not? Both of them were made by an Scorpio.
Jeff Mangum, October 24th
Patrick McHale, November 17th.
No, I don't think it is.
Bee and Puppycat, or some shit, may be the ITAOTS.
OtGW, I'd guess it's some other lo-fi pop album, that is funny and doesn't take itself seriously. With a couple of ragtime and delta blues mixed in. Is there anything like that?
NGE - OK Computer
EoE - KID A
Prove me wrong.
>chinese cartoons arent cartoons just because they aren't made in america
Beirut maybe? Still kind of feels like ITAOTS though. Bee & Puppycat is too light I think, Bee & Puppycat is the cartoon equivalent of girls who do ukulele covers of St. Vincent songs on YouTube.
whoops forgot the pic I was gonna post.
>he actively cares about children's cartoons
>he thinks he can actually compare them to higher forms of art
lol this guy has pictures of girls laughing on his computer xD just for such an event where he can post and people can praise him for contributing.
lol nigga thats how you know youre lonely when you gotta prep shit for an anime message board
Welcome to the NHK is pure slowcore, what the fuck anon
>It's all in my head, she said, "Morning after nightmare
>You're building a wall," she said, "Higher than the both of us
>So try living life instead of hiding in the bedroom
>Show me a smile and I'll promise not to leave you"
The Money Store
pic related is the musical embodiment of Serial Experiments Lain
True, although I'd be tempted to also say Pinkerton
LOST BOYS LOST BOYS LOST BOYS LOST BOYS
pic related is FLCL, maybe Bungle but the humor in thats not really comparable.
>ghost in the shell
why do people say anime are not cartoons? i understand sometimes you want to make the distinction (like discerning waht belongs to /a/ or /co/), but when talking in general, anime are cartoons. Even the name "anime" is borrowed from the french "designs animé", literally cartoons.
The Andrew Jackson Jihad of Cartoons is this short:
I think most of the people who are really assertive about it are just trolling, that or there are people who like Western cartoons but don't want to be associated with anime because of some weird stigma idk
Except over the garden wall is actually good, and not pretentious one bit
>doesn't realize the countless hours that went into making this
>doesn't realize it was made by passionate adults and then other adults simply marketed it to children
>implying things made with a child-like state-of-mind are automatically bad is basically saying every Elephant 6 album is shit
kill urself my man
Yes, and Powerpuff Girls is Fun Trick Noisemaker of animation.
i didnt say they warent cartoons, i called them animations and i made a note that my suggestions warent american because i figure the topic for the thread is specifically for american cartoons
I was about to post the same thing, but for me Adventure Time it's closer to STGSTV imo. Or it can be Cosmogramma too.
Btw, I'm thinking that Uncle Grandpa could be Strawberry Jam or Merriweather Post Pavillion, if we still talking 'bout AnCo.
What would be Gravity Falls guys? I'm thinking of Weezer's Blue Album, but idk.
>What would be the Bakemonogatari of music?
The money store
>What would be the Madoka of music?
>What would be the K-ON of music?
>What would be the Nichijou of music?
What would be the Homestar Runner of music?
The money store is DG most accessible album while still being kind of obscure (monogatari being one of shafts more accessible series while still being head tilting shaft)
MBDTF is mainstream as fuck (apart from maybe the latter 1/3) and heavily commercialised but still really good.
I was assuming that was the point.
Spirited Away, or maybe just like Studio Ghibli in general
I actually think it fits more with this though
The duel music in Utena strongly reminds me of magma for some reason.
>Flapjack isn't sad/fucked up enough
Have you ever fucking watched Flapjack? The entire show is full of fucked up visuals and concepts. One of the main characters is a fucking quadriplegic.
I have, but all that stuff is played for laughs. Every one in OTGW is super sad or messed up in a very surreal and abstract fantasy world but all their problems are based around very real emotional dilemmas. Not to mention this fantasy world is based in turn-of-the-century America. Sounds like ITAOTS to me.
It works. I've always thought of EoE as a cross between Mount Eerie and Pinkerton.
Spice and Wolf
think about it
Ed, Edd n Eddy = Beastie Boys
actually over the garden wall is the selling england by the pound of cartoons
What is the musical equivalent of The Problem Solverz?
no joking plz
Rick and Morty is Deltron 3030. We had this thread a while ago and the dude who posted Deltron ended up with 333333 at the end of his post. I'd post the screenshot if I could find it.
I'm going to go ahead and post this...
Johnny Test is Bush.
It was nice for the first bit (season 1, Sixteen Stone), then it kept going and it became the same exact shit over and over again and you just wanted it to stop, but it never would. It was already an obvious rip off of something better (Dexter's Lab, Nirvana), but it just kept living for who knows why.
Unless you fuckers can think of a better comparison...
What's the musical equivalent to Home Movies?
Besides They Might Be Giants.
I get that Johnny Test is shit, but it's bright and wannabe-zany and SO RADICAL in that childish way. Nickelback is dirty, ugly, white trash music. There are like, no similarities other than the poor quality. Well, that and they're both transparent imitations of superior things that came before.
/mu/ never actually /talks/ about music beyond making recs and posting lists and charts and whatever. Drawing parallels in themes between music and animation, and finding aesthetic similarities between the two is honestly well beyond /mu/'s abilities. No real analysis or criticism (in the actual critical sense) happens here.
i know it to be true anon
its just sad, this isnt even a serious discussion but people are having the hardest time with even this. like really? anco? some of you /mu/tants are dumb as hell.
It's not. It's genius you hyper-edgy insecure twat. I experience art to feel big or grown-up, I experience it to feel connected with myself and others. Elephant 6 is the epitome of this.
they both have that DGAF "we think we're cooler than we actually are" thing going on. both kinda snotty suburban white boy
double-d has a pseudo-hiphop nickname and style
there are probably more similarities if I thought about it
What would be the musical equivalent of the greatest cartoon running at the moment, which is pic related?
What is the The Triplets of Belleville of music?
