What jap albums do you believe would go on the Japanese equivalent of mucore ?(chart of relatively obscure albums covering many genres, so no, not just shitty mathrock and poprock.)

What's the deal with these threads about Japanese music?
I don't think I've ever went and thought "gee, I sure could go for some Japanese music right now", the nationality of the artists I like has very little to do with why I appreciate their music. The fact that some of those artists are Japanese is something I barely take note of, since "Japanese music" isn't an actual genre.
Is it just some weeaboo thing?
>>
>>52400881

I don't know about the albums in general but if there isn't a japanese hardcore section then it's gonna be automatically trash
>>

There is a notable difference in musical stylings of bands from Japan. Some do it because they are weeaboos, some do it because they want a similar sound within certain genres.

Ok so there are only four genres in the universe : rock, pop, hip hop and classical, thanks for the opinions friend

i mean there arent any mucore albums nearly as popular

>>52401221
Kanye.
but that doesnt even factor in.

/mu/-core was always just a list of albums commonly talked about, praised, joked about, or shitted on.
It never had anything to do with popularity outside of /mu/, or even whether or not they were recommended albums

They are rock, shoegaze is a subgenre of rock.

This. Especially true in math rock. While they may not as often be as rhythmically impressive as their western counterparts, a lot of Japanese stuff is more melodically-focused, I've noticed.

A desperate plea for the necessity of regional essentials list:

everyone who says Japanese shoegaze is the same as UK shoegaze is somewhat right - there are genre particular stylistic necessities to account for.

But they'd be wrong to say regionality don't matter. The evolution of music and value systems within a particular region influence just as much what sort of melody an artist spins.

On another note, I'm confused, perplexed, disgusted even - why must y'all consistently sleep on Supercar
>>
>>52405330
Rock is rock, techno is techno, hip hop is hip hop, only the language changes country to country.

The only regional charts should be for traditional music of the country.

I can't help but notice this type of vocals on too many Japanese bands. For example Aldious, Girugamesh, D'espairsRay and a bunch of older J-rock bands like X Japan or One Ok Rock. Those are just some I could remember. Sure they are different enough to be recognizable but similarities are overbearing.

Electronica is a music genre encompassing a wide range of contemporary electronic music designed for a wide range of uses, including foreground listening, some forms of dancing, and background music for other activities. Unlike electronic dance music (EDM), not all examples of electronica are necessarily made for dancing.

I dunno man - take Japanese Hip hop (Kimidori for instance) - one the style of delivery is a lot different (which can be chalked up to language) and the way instrumentals are constructed are different. Tonality and atmosphere are totally different from, say, De La Soul. I'm not saying there aren't cross-regional comps, but it's not just dumb luck that there are so few.

Personally, I think the idea that there is only one rock/hip-hop/etc. is pretty dumb. What are we, cavemen still buying into the existence of an enduring primordial self? Same with music - the game dun changed. Music and the means of its production are constantly gnawed at, traded, regurgitated, shitted out, and eaten again. The point being it lives a fragmented existence (but this is all very basic knowledge I 'spose)
>>

Alternative rock (also called alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a genre of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular by the 1990s.

Performing lobotomy on you could be considered grade A medical prank on the doctor who will have dig inside your shit filled head.
Every music genre has roots planted in one place or the other, roots that can be vary significantly from place to place affecting what grows on them.
Two bands of one genre could be significantly different from one another simply based on their place of origin which could be proven by comparing it to other bands from same place.
That's why regional genres were born, you fucking meat factory dropout.

You know, we're never gonna have a decent chart if all that happens is people shout out names and hope a consensus builds. Make a case, and give a sample in case it's something people haven't heard.

As for me, it's gotta be Supercar. Their influence is manifest in many current-day shoegaze outfits (Civic, Kinoku Teikoku, Pop-office) as well as more elctronica-charged stuff (Mitsume, Plastic Girl in Closet). And yet their sound is singular. Shoegaze, but with the bass as the guiding light as the rhythm scratches along with distorted snares and reverberating cymbals offering a new kind of distortion. Vocal dissonance of delivery between Miki's vibrancy and Nakoko's apathetic coolness amazingly work to bear the meaning of their lyrics via sound over language. And their more electronica infused stuff is just as unique, synths that sound organic in the way they create earnest (there's no better word) soundscapes for everyone to croon/play over.

As for which album, I'd say go with Futuruma, but that's not the most popular nor most accessible.

It'd have to come down to between 3 Out Change and Highvision - shoegaze versus electronic alt rock (with some shoegaze sensibilties). And I think you have to go with Highvision - you won't find anything remotely similar that is as remotely good.

YMO's s/t, SSS, or Naughty Boys.

Come on though, YMO is easy to listen to, one of the most important electronic music bands of all time, and critically respected. Honestly weird never seeing YMO on /mu/ considering how fun they are and how easy it is to see their importance in hip-hop's growth.
