OK, so I have been getting my brother and a few friends into black metal - but they only like bm with good production which is preferably symphonic, also they only really listen to bm when playing fantasy rpg's.

Long story short this is my fault because that was all I listened too until I got sent to a secure mental hospital for 5 years, (would rather not talk about it and even if I did you probably won't believe me).

Anyhow because of this my brother and a few close friends started to listen to the shit I liked before I was locked up to feel nostalgic about the good times. But I would like them to progress a bit.

So I made this chart for them and they seem to like a bit of it. So now I'm thinking this may be a good chart for people who want to get into the epic side of black metal.

Have you heard Tormentor? That was Attila's first band so he wasn't doing that odd vocal style yet. Check out the Anno Domini album, it's a fast paced thrashy classic.

Kvarforth also did a good job on Den Saakaldte's first album imo. But I don't think he should have redone that Bethlehem album.

Yeah, same wall of noise type of sound but each is still different. De Magia Veterum is a bit more focused on a black metal sound though it's still a chaotic drum machine fueled mess (in a good way). Cloak of Altering is really kind of all over the place and quite alien sounding, I never know what to expect browsing the tracks on youtube.
