What's the rarest record, CD or tape you own /mu/? Either by value or by how many exist.
my band's cassette, pressing of 25
rly though i'm not sure what the most limited thing i have is. the Live & Acoustic Mac Demarco tape is somewhat not everywhere so maybe that, or the QOTSA s/t cassette
there aren't many of this in exist
It was expensive, but I'm so excited to have my very own Crosley to play my dad's old records.
I don't have much physical music, but I have this Screaming Females/Tenement Split 7. The special orange vinyl version, of which there were only around 100 of. The online store messed up my order at first so they gave me an orange version for my troubles.
I found an old Genesis live concert bootleg 12'' LP in a box of old records the other day. It's in mint condition. Oddly, the label said "Gene Chandler - I Can Take Care of Myself (disc jockey advance copy)"
I have absolutely no idea how rare it is but I couldn't find any information on Genesis bootlegs. It seemed kind of unusual.
I have a single pressing of a track I made onto acetate.
you only get so many plays out of it before it ceases to work.
considering its a 1-off, and only has about 10 plays left in it, pretty rare
My copy of this has Brilliant Trees pressed on side one. I can't find anything on it anywhere, so I assume it might be the only one in existence.
Two LPs by a german traditional folk band.
Very small town demographic of fans.
Picked up by my mother sometime in the 80s perhaps.
i have one of the false priest cassettes, ltd 500. i also have a cool electric company spidey super stories record. i just looked it up and it's not that rare but it's cool as fuck. it's narrated by morgan freeman.
Pario Marty - The Black Hole of Fun
Real Estate lead singer's only solo release pre forming the band. Only 25 copies made, I have two of them,
according to discogs, this has the highest average and max sale price out of my collection
first pressing w/ bonus disc
fucking smart dude, always best to have an extra copy in case anything happens. I know XVX refuses to play his copy of ExMil until he gets another.
>he doesn't know about the repress
Chelsea Wolfes' prayer for the unborn cd (limited 500) it's disk graphic is so choice and emma ruth rundles' some heavy ocean clear vinyl with an autograph, those are my prized possessions and never fails to shine a small beam of hope through a dense fog of lethargy and depression
how the fuck would you know something like that
assuming many were pressed, how many would go by before someone noticed something was wrong? probably more than fucking one, don't you think
and who would pay money for something like that, just because it's a 'rare' deformity doesn't mean it's worth anything
Collectors love weird fuck ups like this, you'd be really surprised at the amounts people fork out for even the smallest mistakes. A mistake like an entirely different album appearing on one side of a record is not unheard of but a rarity, so there are probably 10 or more copies like it before they figured out they fucked up.
One example would be The Smiths Hatful Of Hollow where the tracklisting had a missing dot between tracks, it fetches a ridiculous amount just for that one little thing.
Um.. Caddywhompus lathe cut of The Weight, one out of 35? I've been offered here and there on Discogs for it so it's somewhat in demand. Apart from that, most VALUABLE things are stupid shit like the Perfect Pussy 'blood' box set, Exmilitary, I dunno... the Books boxset? Nothing super crazy rare.
I have an Exmilitary tape too, and a YYU timetimetime&time tape, uh.. Evenings - Lately? A couple /25 tapes like Nouns - Still Bummed. I'm supposed to have a White Coyote S/T tape coming that's out of 9
I dunno, I feel like I'm coming up short. I don't do a lot of vintage
Oh, and by the way, this thing makes ATLF look like Thriller.
There is virtually no information on it online.
Here's a new track by them, the stuff on Ham is 1000 times better, and sounds like some blackened post-punk from fucking 1988.
yeah, the most expensive records I own aren't even that rare
There's Fiona's Idler Wheel, Regina Spektor's Begin to Hope, and m83's colored Hurry Up We're Dreaming, but nothing outrageously hard to find if you have the right amount to spare
Well Discogs tells me my post valuable things (besides what I mentioned) are The Shaggs, Jimmy Eat World 'Bleed American', The Stills, Neon Indian (???), The Space Project, Tobacco's latest, Psychic Love Damage.. Now, Now 'Neighbors'? Com Truise 'In Decay'? I dunno what the fuck is going on.
I won a test pressing of this album on Monday. It'll be my first test pressing, really stoked to get it. He is one of my favorite artists.
Hey I like a couple of their albums, it's high school shit that never went away. Like Circa Survive and shit. That Bleed American thing was a triple colored LP deal that became kinda sought after. They just re-release Futures and some older stuff too so I had to cop those too.
there's nothing wrong with that, I have a copy of Bring Me the Horizon's Count Your Blessings, Metro Station's s/t, and Owl City's Ocean Eye (well erm... there might be something wrong with that actually)
either way, it's rad that you have something you love. it's the only reason i'd buy any record, really. either that or the packaging has to be fantastic.
Purified in Blood - Reaper of Souls Demo Version
I like the way this thread is going
Besides the aforementioned junk, I do have both Acceptance albums, some Dance Gavin Dance stuff, Harvard, uh.. Hellogoodbye? Static-X? Is that cringey? Probably.
Probably my original pressing of In the Court of the Crimson King, or original of White Light/White Heat. Other than that I don't really have much stuff that would be considered rare besides a Talking Heads promo and a Coltrane promo.
dude, which album? Would It Kill You is undeniably a great album, though their debut and 2013's Everything is Debatable had their fair share of highs and lows
keep it man, give it to your pig-stealing, good for nothing grandchildren
you'll be remembered as that cool hipster grandpa
Would It Kill You? on white with bonus 7" (took me a while to find for less than like 45 bucks) and Everything Is Debatable on bone
Honestly if that avocado EP was pressed I'd buy that too even though it's pretty bad
Trying to think of other lame things.. a Limp Bizkit tape, Midtown... not much else. Death Cab counts right? Oh I have Disturbed's The Sickness on tape, very proud of that.System of a Down S/T on tape too, actually kinda rare from what I've heard.
B-but I have Sissy Spacek S/T on double 7", I'm still cool right guys
I've got some cassettes limited to 100 (Jordaan Mason - he could have been a poet..., Shannon Phone - Gender™, and Miami Vice - Palm Haze) Sludge Dredd cassette limited to 10, Snowing FYEB 7" on blue vinyl limited to 50, TWIABP Between Bodies on black vinyl limited to 250, and Zeitkraster - Metal Machine Music limited to 500. Everything else I have is either 1000 or above, I'm pretty sure
jealous of that System tape, best thing they ever churned out of their Armenian assholes
managed to get that beeyuuutiful blue/white marbled Would It Kill You, but I'm jealous of the 7''
Sissy would be jealous of that 7'' man
I have this album, by The Invaders, a local college band from the 60's that were apparently popular enough to get re-released on CD 30 years later. Found it at a thrift store, bought it because I liked the name, didn't end up liking the music much. It seems to be considered fairly rare, though. Been considering selling it, as they go for about $200 on ebay.
The 7" isn't anything special it's just a nice companion
I got the Sissy Spacek from Banjoman on here, the first and only /mu/ transaction I've made. A real shame too, I bet some /mu/tants have some cool shit for sale. Selling over /mu/ is just too risky I guess.
Nothing else really worth mentioning that I can see, but I'm in the process of cataloging everything and maybe one day I can just throw a link out, that'd be nice
haha it is but trips are a different story, especially banjoman, that guy was cool. good luck on that link man, i'm sure I wouldn't be the only person who would appreciate that
gotta keep that quality high
Here's a really really incomplete in progress one, very low quality
It's taking forever, mostly because I keep getting distracted, but one day..
dude! finish the task set before you, run the race to the very end and collect your reward (probably just a few 'thx' but still)
i'm not touching it until you finish it. it'll be my first listen too
lets see i have
-the avalanches SILY o.g. pressing
-regina spektor soviet kitsch og out of print pressing (like200$ on discogs),
-DFA 1975 YAWIAM 2lp on pink vinyl (only 500 copies made).
thats about it.
I have the original pressing of Black Flag Nervous Breakdown ep. There were 300 copies made.
I got some tape that is limited to 5 copies, I've never listened to it
I have no idea why, but this album goes for obscene prices on discogs and ebay. It's one of Waylon Jennings last albums. I think he recorded most of the songs with his son. I picked it up at a record store for 15 bucks and found out people were selling it online for up to 300. Good day at the record store. Next valuable is probably the clothbound pressing of Joy Division's Still and then a first pressing of Hootenanny by the Replacements.
Blaugh, I'll just post an image

CD: Killing Us Is a Easy by Operatic, growing collection of Swans discography with dig impact versions and includes the Europe released White Light From the Mouth of Infinity and Love of Life box set, various others and I Haagen various Cardiacs related items.

I also have 4 copies of the Deathconciousness reissue, I only wanted 2 but one of my record's sleeve was ripped on the spine so I sent them a picture and they straight up sent me two of the standard pressings of it for free.
A preorder edition of Flesh Born - Han/All The Pain... LP w/ hand stamped labels and hand numbered (25/50)
I think it's Phil era, I don't really know anything about Genesis nor have much interest, but the second track is Follow You Follow Me.
The sound quality is... Not great. I haven't heard a lot of bootlegs, so I don't know whether it's above or below average, but it definitely sounds bootleg. It also seems to be in mono.
I'm ripping it right now just because, I'll maybe upload some of it somewhere.
Not exactly a top collector's item, but within the right circles it makes people mad jelly.
Got it for 30 bucks, too.

City of Caterpillar - City of Caterpillar
Suffocate for Fuck Sake - Blazing Fires and Helicopters etc etc
I Would Set Myself on Fire for You - I Would Set Myself on Fire for You
>first unofficial CD, screenprinted and spraypainted cardboard
oh yeah and this, Coughs - Fright Makes Right
I think I heard it was out of 100, can't confirm
I have this.
It's limited to a 100 or a 1000 or some shit. Randomly picked it up at a thriftshop. I should share it one of these days after I listened to it.
Preslav Literary School - La Réflexion Du Tir and Heccra - White Eagle on cassette. They're worthless to everyone but me but I don't give a shit, as far as I'm concerned they're the pride of my collection.
Yeah! It's one of my favorite noise rock albums and I'm a sucker for the DIY style packaging, so I couldn't pass it up when it came up on Discogs for something like $8
Guuuuuh I'm jealous as hell of that Preslav Literary School tape, I feel like that album would be perfect for cassette and I didn't get into tapes until after it was sold out ;_____;
Yeah, it's one of those releases that somehow manages to sound great on tape. I lucked out and managed to snag the last avaliable copy, same deal with the Heccra tape too actually now I think of it
I have one of this babys, only 500. It's not that rare but it's kinda expensive.
I have a cassette from Pearl-Jam that is an introduction to them as a band, it also has the entire dutch tour from 92' on the back. It has a spoken word introduction an the A side, and 2 songs on the B side.
Apparently it was an exclusive promo item
tell more about the QotSA tape
i have this (live malmo sweden 2000)
First release by the best german rap duo ever, costed me a lot for an ep
This on LP (bought it for 3 bucks, store had lots of copies for some reason; I don't even live in Austria).
Picture disc, limited edition of 500 pressings. Bought it directly from Profound Lore (it was relatively cheap), and when it was taking too long to arrive, I sent them an email, they told me it was literally the last copy they had. Fortunately it was delivered eventually, that was a stroke of luck.
I have a Kurt Vile 7" that was given out to people who attended his 11/11/11 show at Webster hall
probably Songs by Other People made by a couple members of We Are Ghosts, which has like 100 CD releases that were sent out with a limited edition copy of one of their other CDs, which obviously I also have
OHHHH I see you have hotelier.
Pink splatter limited to 125.
