His cultural impact has been a shallow one, over-hyped by media organizations. he's been broken mentally by the death of his mother and the media's attention, fixation and pandering to his life and his family, resulting in him thinking that he has a significant role in modern day cultural values.
Cut away the bullshit that surrounds him and what you're left with is a narcissistic man who's married a talentless media vulture who's only claim to fame is having sex on video tape with a modestly successful R&B singer. His aesthetics are based on the monetary value of what he wears. His ideology and thinking is the same, his ego is allowed to run unchecked in interviews (see zane lowe interview) and he namechecks big corps and clothing brands, "google, versace, rick owens" and gets part of their success in their own relative fields reflected onto him for doing so. Musically speaking, His first three albums haven't aged well, the rest is alright, MBDTF the best of the lot.
>>50794538 John Lennon's cultural impact was always a shallow one, over-hyped by dadrockers. He was obviously broken mentally when his mother was killed when he was only 17 and the hysteria around Beatlemania in the 60s resulted in him thinking that he had a significant role in modern culture.
Cut away the bullshit that surrounds him and what you're left with is a narcissistic man who beat his wife, emotionally abused his son and abandoned both of them for a Japanese hag who spends her time screaming in to a microphone and calling it art. His ideology of "peace" was extremely hypocritical considering his own behaviour and his ego was allowed to run unchecked in interviews (see "the Beatles are more popular than Jesus").
Also he willfully chose to put his penis in Yoko fucking Ono.
I agree though, he isn't any more impactful than jay-z, pharrell, dr. dre, hell even eminem. He's just an attention whore and knows how to spark controversy to make himself appear interesting all the while making run of the mill pop rap
he has had no true cultural impact. he is not Rembrandt, he is not Beethoven, his cultural worth is zero. As is the way with fame nowadays, his pop culture worth is only measurable in how much other people can use him as a vehicle for making money.
people who deny kanye's cultural significance are idiots. you can hate him all you want, but he's one of the most universally known artists today and continues to be in the spotlight with pretty much anything he does
okay I'll say exactly the same thing again without greentexting so that you can comprehend it clearer. If you make no effort in the field that you are supposed to be culturally significant in, then you are by default, not culturally significant. you can't contribute to pushing a culture forward by not making an effort.
>>50795455 this actually goes beyond music, especially since Kanye isn't just a musician anymore. he's a cultural figure and dictates taste in music and fashion, and everything from his artistic output to even a sound bite has cultural ramifications. all he has to do is say something ridiculous and the world looks at him, he knows it and you know it too, that's where no effort is required; however, he still puts an enormous amount of effort into his creative endeavors, quite clearly, but his importance is not bounded by the fields in which he works.
>>50795013 He has some impact in pop culture, not in culture. there is a major difference. of course now he can seem important since everyone is talking about him. That's show media work nowadays. How important would you say the cultural impact of Paris Hilton is?
if that book tried to prove how impressive it is to create a pop star and give the impression of artistic creativity and integrity out of nowhere, using only paychecks and marketing, it could be extremely interesting. But let's not fool ourselfes, it's probably just Kanye dickriding taken to the next level.

You sound like one of those illuminati conspiracy theorists.
>>50796120 Rihanna is up there with the beatles and madonna for most number 1 hits of all time, Bieber has been the most popular pop artist for about 5 years now, broke all kinds of records in music and concert film. So it's pretty likely they will be prominent for many years to come
