Anyone heard this? it's pretty fucking great, like most things featuring Zeena Parkins or Tenko.

PS: the new Magma album is great.
>>
>>50316589
I'm not I just do it in prog threads so people don't take ages to realise who i am

I don't want to have to mention "post-prog" before someone goes "oh it's the post-prog guy"
>>
>>50316609
Never really been a big LS fan (although I love Riverside), but I will definitely get to it as soon as it drops. I've liked parts of all three albums, I just think that a whole lot of the ambience and stuff is a bit filler-y

>>50316605
Yeah I get that comparison. I'm hoping they spread out with their next album (February-ish). There are a couple of 10-minute droning Swans-influenced tracks on it that should please some (and for those like me who find Swans boring, they're far better)

>>50316686
Correction:
Top - stuff I've (mostly) heard of
Bottom - stuff I haven't heard of so it must be shit lmao
>>
>>50316686
And the fact that the person who made this used Deloused instead of FTM proves they're retarded. But yeah everything above red bar is good
>>
>>50316686
>le wrong generation face

>>50316708
Scruffy drone pls go, Deloused is clearly superior
>>
>>50316708
>Deloused above Frances

Maybe because it's a coherent and well-structured album instead of a stack of okay ideas surrounded by aimless trash?
>>
Red is better than In The Court of The Crimson King.

Also, needs more yes, Tears for fears, and Men at work.
>>
>>50316686

neither the "good" nor "bad" statement is true

>>50316705
I think it has more to do with the time of release for that guy. he's being silly either way
>>
>>50316686
All of the albums on the chart are on the same level.
How many albums from the "shit" section have you listened to, honestly?

>>50316708
It's easier to criticize instead of giving constructive criticism.

>>50316729
Arguing about the best KC album is impossible. ITCOTCK is there because it was very important.
>>
>>50316686
Apart from a few exceptions, this is actually true
>>
>>50316535

It's great! The first songs are the "noisiest", but after that it becomes more pleasing.
Listen to Sugar N Spikes and Sweet Bulbs, for example (even a friend of mine who likes reggaeton liked Sugar N Spikes).
>>
>>50316779
Can we do one for prog? that like has all krautrock and zeuhl albums in the "trve" section, then Yes, Genesis and Porcupine Tree in the 'shit' section

Then spam it everywhere and achieveā€¦ something
>>
>>50316749
>How many albums from the "shit" section have you listened to, honestly?
cardiacs, worlds end girlfriend, deloused, you slut, after dinner, tipographica, sajjanu, u totem s/t, and yowie

all are pretty bad imo, plus FTM is leagues ahead of deloused like that one faggot said
>>
>>50316810
Does Zeuhl even have any significant artists except Magma?
>>
>>50316810
No, please don't.

>>50316808
If you had to choose only 5, which ones would you choose? No metal andrevivalist, and only one album per artist is allowed.
>>
>>50316686
holy shit this

i was losng my mind when i saw it in the catalog
>>
>>50316859
Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Leprous, Opeth and Marillion
>>
>>50316808
Thanks for this, I had accidentally deleted it

I think we need to make a few charts for different purposes, like one for classics, one for modern stuff that isn't metal, one for metal etc.

I would like to make a proper prog metal chart but I am incapable of quality photo editing

>>50316857
Not really tbh, there are bands, but they aren't considered anywhere near as high as Magma. Although I haven't actually heard much

>>50316859
>If you had to choose only 5, which ones would you choose?

For your chart, Mei and Snowtorch are probably the only ones that would fit in, since it's nearly exclusively rock and not metal. And Raven, I guess.

>>50316838
that's less than a third of that section of the chart m8. you're getting ahead of yourself.

>>50316857
Koenjihyakkei, Eskaton, Offering, Rhun did an album last year that was absolutely mindblowing and will probably continue working their way to being the most important players in the zeuhl scene today.

>>50316888
he said no metal though
>>
>>50316975
not really, post 80s prog rog is shit in general
>>
>>50316982
Ok, IQ and Spock's Beard instead of Leprous and Opeth then
>>
>>50316950
No. No no no no no no.

Sorry, I do actually enjoy Frances, but this is supposed to be an entry chart, and Deloused is both more cohesive, more concise, more accessible, and it still retains Volta's signature sound.

>>50316990

>>
>>50316990
No, you are just stuck in the past.
Listen to the artists I told you and you will change your mind.
>>
>>50317008
hhhhmmmm I'll say probably not, even as a big fan of IQ, since both are basically revivalist bands, and the point of AMG's chart is partially to prove that there are still interesting and unique prog bands today

ohhhhh this chart is for accessibility and introduction?

well then keep all those shit artists like yowie and world ends girlfriend... pleb weeaboos will love them

>>50317165
>>
>>50317165
>>gave TMR a 10
he gave it a 9.5, also TMR is one of Avant math god's favorite albums (the person who made the OP chart)
>>
>>50317165
Hey, TMR is not aimless wanky garbage. Nothing there is improvised and the instrumentals are wonderful!
>>
>>50317172
Yes, the shitty djent bands that don't even have odd grooves and are just metalcore with shitty tones hanging on their coat tails. At least those bands have some form of interesting instrumentation, although I hate them endlessly

And it also may be the death of prog metal, because "progressive metal" is now becoming synonymous with chugging

>>50317192
AFI are great, you don't have to like everything that's pre-approved. And the only one in my top is Sing the Sorrow, which is generally considered to be a fantastic album

Ok let's stop bickering about inaccessibility and talk about shit we actually like

What's everyone's favourite recent prog metal album? This year has been a bit slow for prog metal I must admit, so I'm still jamming this from last year. Sounds like Katatonia if they were really good instead of okay and more prog. It's recently become my #3 overall for 2013

Not sure if you're referring to the chart or not in that challenge but here it goes.

King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic
The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
Soft Machine - Third
Gong - You
Steve Hilliage - Fish Rising

>>50317082
FTM is the superior album. Not sure how you can call it aimless wank when the album is crafted around a specific story. Cassandra Gemini might be one of the greatest songs ever.
>>
When Will Steven Wilson finally release new album with Porcupine Tree? His new album is coming out this year and while I feel it will be good, it will probably be more of the same.

I still have to listen to Gong's You. How is it compared to Teapot?
>>
>>50317327
My fav albums this year:
Dream The Electric Sleep - Heretics (thanks)
Gazpacho - Demon
Crippled Black Phoenix - White Light Generator
Anathema - Distant Satelites (gona see them live in 2 weeks)
IQ - The Road of Bones
Motorpsycho - Behind the Sun
>>
>>50317392
A whole lot of it feels like filler. There are some great ideas in there, but in between there are those sections that add absolutely nothing. I like about half of the tracks on Cassandra Gemini, and I think the album could have been as good if it were cut down, but then it would be like half the length. I get that it's not supposed to be accessible, but a good deal of it feels like being weird for the sake of being weird, it doesn't really fit. And L'Via L'Viaquez is straight-up bad.

>>50317423
Don't get your hopes up. They'll reunite for a tour someday, he's pretty much confirmed that, but I wouldn't guarantee a new album.

>>50317461
Pretty similar to mine in terms of prog stuff, I would also check out Quiet Child's Chapter & Verse, if you can get a hold of it (it streams on bandcamp but is kinda expensive).

Also >>50316553, which was from december last year (so it missed the 2014 boat), but I could compare it to that CBP album a bit in terms of style
>>
>>50317340
