definitely not 'you're dead'
this is good but wish it was more punk, so prob not AOTY
i've been listening to a LOT of rap lately so prob this or blood eagle
seriously. get on the train before it takes off, choo choo
wtf is it
album cover reminds me of this probably better 2014 album
that one's really good but this is AOTY
I haven't gotten around to listening to Perfume Genius' new album yet, it's on my to-do list though. As far as AOTY, I'm not really sure. Syro is definitely a runner up, but I can't make up my mind,
I always confuse the two myself
Not that person but it's Cymbals Eat Guitars - LOSE, 'indie' rock album from 2014. It's pretty good, I'd say check it out if you like the genre, idk if it's AOTY material though.
Manipulator is a STRONG contender for mine
Also in the running:
The Antlers - Familiars
Sun Kil Moon - Benji
Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence
Potentials (but are not out yet, or need more time to sink in):
Aphex Twin - Syro
Thom Yorke - TMB
Foxygen - ...And Star Power
Kanye West - ????
Panda Bear - Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper
oh damn, i loved wixiw. didn't know they had new stuff.
i loved cloud nothings, real estate, avi buffalo, wytches, thee oh sees, alex g, pup, purterbator, htrk, nothing, total control, lower, cheetahs, eagulls, dz deathrays, protomartyr, black lips, sun araw and prob some other stuff i'm forgetting.
oh new electric is great, king tuff, and porter robinson but admitting that is hard because everything else i've heard from him sucks major ass
you loved wixiw? Well Mess' first half is like Brats on cocaine, and the second half is like Brats coming off of cocaine and then somebody injects you with horse tranquilizers. It's excellent.
hey man chill it happens sometimes
he's gonna listen to it now and when he gets to Perpetual Village he'll be like 'woah holy shit'
and it'll be cool
somewhere on the earth it'll be a cool thing
be cool dude
great calls, all in my top 5 currently
this is mine so far, but Panda Bear's new LP might top it
I never thought I'd call an album by Weezer in 2014 my AOTY but there you go
By a fuck of a long shot, actually. I didn't even expect an album this year, let alone her best one yet, let alone one of the best pop albums I've heard since the decade started.
Great big honorable mention to Black Moon Spell.
Only a few of the songs are really synth heavy. Most are just piano based which really isn't 80's sounding but I won't argue its amazingly original. I guess Grid starts off kinda generic but halfway through it gets more dynamic.
Kassel Jaeger - Toxic Cosmopolitanism
Fuck Editions Mego has a lot of good stuff out this year
i enjoyed the shit outta this. does anyone have similar recs / is the rest of their material worth checking out?
>implying that any weezer album art is good
>is the rest of their material worth checking out?
Absolutely, The Dance of the moon and the sun is considered essential from them. I think it's a far superior album.
From there you can explore the rest of their discography too, it's fairly consistent in terms of quality.
ok so listening to this now and wow really? Just sounds like average electropop with her vocals on top of it.
this is coming from someone who's really liked her work previously. Conatus is GOAT art pop imo
Nobody really knows.
People are obsessively posting how good it is, which is making people obsessively post how good it is, which is making obsessively post how good it is.
Personally, I thought it was meh. Some really great songs, but a lot of useless filler. The high points of the album are really high, probably the best they've had in years, but the album as a whole falls flat.
I still don't know how I feel about that album. As an Andrew Bird album, it's weak. It's just not up to his caliber of stuff. But his caliber of stuff is so damn high that it's hard to objectively rank the album against other albums by other artists.
True, but it's a cover album, and any cover album that's consistently better than the original songs is pretty damn good at fulfilling its goal. Relative to his other albums it's weak, but relative to other cover albums it's great, so I'd say it averages out to being, well, where I put it in that chart.
4.5/10, it's just arcade fire channeled through one histrionic faggot. also Grid is a Suicide ripoff
can't rate it yet, but it's not bad. hate the vocals, but love the piano, and the country does workout sometimes
7.5/10, not their best, but intruders is GOAT
3.5/10, emo revival IM GETTING BETTER NOW Bs. The type of shit killing the genre
8/10, great work by arca (again) and she's legitimately talented
2.5/10, don't even need to say anything because Kozelek's criticism was spot-on
8.5/10, album most likely to become a classic from this year. He's one of the only people who can get away with an album like this
pic related is mine, 9-9.5/10; various genres adeptly represented and an overall gorgeous album
this is fucking amazing
everything Disclosure wishes they could be
I've only been listened for a few days now, but this is really the first album this year that I"ve absolutely loved. I've liked a lot, but I haven't been blown away by anything yet. This album is fucking dynamite.
/mu/ will hate it. Guaranteed. Crazy hype will build, but because the hype will be crazy, people will be disappointed.
Mark my words: It will end up being on par with Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks. It won't be bad, but people will be let down.
Truly, it's this. Marvelous album, only album close to a 10/10 this year.
Not AOTY but close up there.
Sorry, extremely overrated and boring album.
Good to decent taste
All contenders, but you guys forgot just this one. Woman (In Mirror) just did it for me.
Not an MCR hater(I like their first album), but this was shit.
Cloud nothings-here and nowhere else
Shellac- dude incredible
Weezer- everything will be alright in the end
Foxing- the albatross
Mac demarco- sala days
Julian casablancas and th voidz- tyranny
What moon things- s/t
Nothing- guilty of everything
these are all great answers, but i've got to go with pic related.
