This soundtrack kills me. When I first found it I was living as a hikikomori for nearly 2 years and had severe depression. But the bright point of my day was watching an episode a day, which is mainly what inspired me to get better and eventually get out of it. After getting the 8 orbs (still on After Story) in the VN, I can feel safe by saying that's quite untrue.
Yeah, it certainly does skip a lot of story from the game, but I think the production was focused on blending all of the routes together so you would find a deeper relationship between characters. And it was done nicely, from my point of view.

Kind of wish there was an extended version of this, like 7 minutes long or something.

The main problem of clannad isn't the filler, it's the one dimensional female characters. Stuff like this works in comedy and slice of life, because these shows don't take themselves seriously, but as soon as you mix melodrama with characters that are defined by nothing more than a single character trait, you end up with a disaster.

Key's writing isn't that good to begin with but with characters that actually have some depth, it could at least end up pretty good.

It's one of my absolute favorite anime, and I think >>49110045 described my feeling somewhat aptly.
