>>48889616
not that guy but goa trance/psytrance/whatever is technically club music. just that people in these threads don't talk about it because no one really listens to it or likes it very much

same as stuff like 'ladhouse'. it's club music but everyone hates it so no one discusses it here
>>
>>48889686
"tasteful" club music, then

seriously though, no offense, but trance is 99% irredeemable puerile shit

>>48889658
i like it actually. it's not really club music but as a novelty pop single it does its job, and the production quality is very good as well
>>
>>48889718
That's why you listen to the 1%. I'm not denying most goa/psy is horrible garbage, even if I love both genres.
>>
Also I don't really get how goa can't be tasteful? What the fuck does "tasteful" mean?

I get it, but I'd like an explanation on why that's tasteful and this is not.

Perhaps not very /bleep/ related, but I'd like to put forth the MDK 2 soundtrack, a game from the milennia change. It's a blend of techno, trance, big-beat and drum & bass, as well as classical music and jazz. It even blends the former with the latter.

It's hard for me to pick favourites, but the energy of the two drum & bass tracks is just immense. Have a listen. Drum & bass with 4x4 beats and trancey acid-lines. Definately worth a listen.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDluudikD3M
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgMAxp0R5qc

Also, this one blends classical music with electronic.

>>
>>48891503

>>48891554
Yeah I was thinking that too. Given it's Modern Love / Boomkat it will get made into a super limited edition green translucent vinyl box set... never to be repressed until they do so on grey marbled vinyl etc.

>>48893734

>Hardwax, RA-core
>techno, house, dubstep, garage, jungle, drum & bass, UK bass, etc.

>I'm new here where do I start?
Please keep in mind that /bleep/ is predominantly for dance music, not everything under the "electronic" umbrella. Those looking to expand their tastes will likely not find recs here, check out essentials charts in the sticky for that.
Ishkur's guide to dance music, although it's biased: http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/
Tensnake's youtube playlists offer a good window into the world of classic dance music: https://www.youtube.com/user/arod2211/playlists
Simon Reynolds - Energy Flash is a recommended reading.

>Where do I get this music?
Legally:
Hardwax
Redeye
Boomkat
Juno
Clone
Phonica
etc.
Discogs also has a marketplace which is very useful for finding rare records no longer on the shelves, but do your research before buying anything for an inflated price.

>I'm poor
SoulseekQT
nodata
funkysouls

>I'm lazy and don't want to think for myself
ResidentAdvisor

XLR8R

>Wow this is all very overwhelming how do I know what's what?
Record labels are your friend. Discogs probably has the most extensive archive of every release ever, and most people like to discover more music by cataloging labels on discogs and looking at where certain artists have released other stuff. Rateyourmusic is also a decent alternate option.tensive archive of every release ever. Just noticed that. Simple fix, remove the "I'm new.." part. There is already a "I'm lazy and don't want to think for myself", which is all we really need as it accounts for half the questions in the threads.

Producer here. Don't worry, I'm not trying to be the next Skrillex or a Disclosure/Tchami clone, but I'm sure there's a few of you here that produce.

I've been trying at it for two years now and I've learnt a lot. I can use Ableton with great ease now and I know a lot of the technical stuff, but I still have a lot of problems with the creative and composing side of it.

What can I do to practise and improve in this aspect? Or rather, where should I begin or what would be a good way to approach this?

When I think about it, it seems easy and sort of clear to me, but as soon as I have Ableton open and start fucking around then my mind just hits a wall. I know I have a lot of years of learning ahead of me, but I feel like I haven't gotten anywhere in almost a year now and I have nothing at all to show for it, not a single full song.

Thank you for your help in advance. Pic related is how most producers that I admire make it seem.
>>
>>48906570
practice this
this is one skill you can improve with time, start making little melodies. It's like how tracing is awful for an artist to do, but it does help with skill. So you can make little musical doodles and experiment them a lot - don't worry about making each one into a fully polished song, just try to get the creative juices flowing.

Hey /bleep/ I have a confession.
>be a couple years ago
>browse /mu/ 24/7
>be an IDMfag
>one day see a thread called "bleeps & bloops"
>chuckle at the name, don't see the name often again, only occasionally
>stop browsing /mu/ shortly after
>start going to uni
>join radio
>have a specific show for IDM and experimental electronic
>name it BLEEPS & BLOOPS
Should I change it? I didn't know it eventually became a /mu/ meme until I started coming here randomly again.
I don't want to be a giant /mu/ memespouter on the airwaves, especially since it's not even house, techno, uk garage, dub, or any of that.
>>
>>48907804
what have you played?
>>
>>48907944
Here's the playlist for last week if that's what you mean.
I take advantage of the vagueness that "IDM" and "experimental electronic" entail. A few shows ago I added some noisy techno and breakcore.
>>
>>48907989
that's not memespouting

At first I thought so, but then I wasn't so sure since I realized that /bleeps/ became a thing.
>you're good
>it's a fitting name
I thought so too; felt totally appropriate.

Th-thanks guys.

Hi /bleep/.
I'm wondering how you keep up to track with all the latest releases, because it seems like there is a constant slew of new ones every time there is a new thread?

What blogs/labels do I need to follow?
Where can I listen to the records? Will they be easily found on tpb and soulseek?

I'm interested in Dubstep and Funky stuff like Rinse FM

find artists you like
go to the pages of the labels they release on
subscribe to email

also, subscribe to the larger retailers (juno, boomkat, etc.) that release things you like

follow soundclouds/bandcamps/youtube channels of things you like.

follow dj sets of djs you like.

that should be enough to keep you buried in releases until the end of time. i still have about 2500 tracks in my "to be listened to" queue.

it was $30, and shipping was $20. unfortunately, that's still cheaper than you'll get it anywhere else now. i don't know why that record's so expensive, but it was worth it since it's one of my all time favorite albums. i can get the limited white label version of bluff limbo for about $10 less, and i think i'm going to order it when i get the money.

I collect vinyl because it's physical, but cassette collecters don't even listen to theirs. You could just put a blank tape in a copycat case and people would be none the wiser.

physical. why are you saying that they aren't? And I'm sure a fair amount (most, tbh) of people that go out of their way to buy cassettes will listen to them, too. It's not as if a cassette player is difficult to obtain or expensive or anything.

>>
>>48927993
>And I'm sure a fair amount (most, tbh) of people that go out of their way to buy cassettes will listen to them, too
They really don't though, the vast majority just keep them unplayed, or digitise them once for future listening if they're cassette only.

Cassettes are pure collecters items nowadays.
>>
>>48927968
and that means i give a shit about their music today?

and that means that americans are interested in it? this thread will be dead in about 30 mins

so what if techno started out in america, Europe was writing music 1000 times better than anything america ever has hundreds of years before america even existed. so what though?
