Top 5 current rappers and bottom 5 current rappers. No old school rappers and must consistently make music and generate some buzz.
1. Meechy Darko
2. King Los
4. Danny Brown
5. Kevin Gates
1. Big Sean
2. Trinidad James
3. Hoodie Allen
No particular order on either list
1. Big K.R.I.T
4. Aesop Rock
5. MF Doom
2. lil Wayne
3. A$AP (all of them)
4. Yung Lean, Kitty Pryde, Riff Raff and all other Youtube memerappers
5. Nicki Minaj
1. Earl Sweatshirt
2. Lil Herb
3. Run The Jewels
2. anyone from odd future (excluding earl and domo)
3. Big Sean
4. RZA (most overrated rapper and producer of all time)
5. Lil Mouse
Kevin Gates is overrated as hell, and I live in Baton Rouge.
2. Danny Brown
3. Isaiah Rashad
4. Everyone in Flatbush (Meech > Ark >>> Juice)
5. Action Bronson and/or Joey Bada$$
No bottom 5 for me
I really like Gambino and Chiraq is the most overhyped scene right now
>No old school rappers and must consistently make music and generate some buzz.
1. Kool AD
2. Lil Ugly Mane
3. Young Thug
5. Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire
Not really a top 5 but well
Best (in no order) :
- Gift of Gab
- Aesop Rock
- Del tha Funkee Homosapien
- MC Ride
- Tyler, the Creator
- Lil Wayne
- Big Sean
- A$AP Rocky
Talking just purely in terms of their skill as MCs over here
1. Mr Muthafuckin Exquire
2. AK (from Underachievers)
5. Erick Arc Elliott
1. French Montana
3. Trinidad James
4 (also 5 and a whole bunch of other numbers): Literally all of Odd Future
chance the rapper
anyone in chance the rapper's fucking weak ass clique
nice meme dude
does shmurda have a tape out?
nice list dude but there's nothing wrong with french montana
MC Ride (not sure if death grips is rap or not)
Eminem (He´s fucking cancer right now)
Young Lean (Don´t like that ironic shitrap)
Erick's flows are unstoppable, and he's a lyrical rapper, he's the only one in the group that doesn't just rap about getting stoned, not to mention his production's probably the best thing about the group. Juice has great flow, but all he does is talk about being high. Meech is just the hype man.
pretty much agree, except I'd maybe swap DOOM (old school) with Killer Mike and Aesop with Q (like him better personally)
also I'd definitely includw Big Sean in bottom, maybe swap him with ASAP Mob..
Fuck off, bitch nigga, I been dickriding FB since day one, and that track don't prove shit. Look, punk bitch motherfucker, I never said Meech ain't go hard, faggot, I just said he's the weak link, the other niggas do way better there, you stupid CUNT.
Man I can't believe all these people riding Flatbush. I used to be really into them until I realized that literally every song EVERY SONG is about getting high and pretending to be a zombie. Also they are extremely white black dudes that rap like they aren't just as privileged as every white man ever.
>radios never played my favorite song
>miss America could never be black
I didn't even have to listen to it. I remembered those lines and was hoping you'd post that one. Btw miss America has been a black woman several times.
Worst Top 5 here
>must generate some buzz
>Includes Wiki and Roc
I agree with your bottom 5 although I didn't include Roth, B.o.b, OF or French Montana is mine.
Everyone here recognizes bad rap but a consensus top 5 is harder to attain.
>omg our presidents black we are the kkk nation
I'm not trying to say that a lot of black people don't have it bad and that it is due to centuries of being put down by whites. But these dudes that talk about watching dbz after school with each other and having jobs at Adidas where they would steal shoes don't deserve to rap about this shit like their dads got lynched.
So, instead of saying anything about how I just blew you out of the water, for saying they only rap about being high, and how I proved they don't, you just focus on some bullshit politics, like I'm the one who said that black people have it hard. I didn't write the song, faggots, but it prove that not every song is about being high. You lost the internet argument, so now you're trying to make it about something it never was in the first place, and that's probably the most retarded thing a man could do.
>4. RZA (most overrated rapper and producer of all time)
these are all time classic albums with some of the hottest beats ever laid down. his rapping yeah hes not incredible but he is top 5 producer of all time no doubt.
>gettin cash every day twistin flame
That's a line from that song, do you think you can figure out what it means? Also I told you to show me a song that didn't include anything from my post which included them being privileged "white" black kids.
go back to /pol/
fine but you violated OP's sacred rules.
everyone that dislikes Kendrick uses "hur durr white music" as a justification for having shit taste in rap.
>I didn't write the song that's about white privilege
>LOL UR A LIBERAL THIS IS WHAT BELIEVES
So a liberal believes he's not a member of the Flatbush Zombies? Try to make sense before you post.
Hey, you know how to take lines out of context! Yeah, you're right, that single line means the whole song is about being high! It certainly doesn't mean, in the context of the song, that they feel their only option in life is to sell drugs! Yeah, you're totally not clinging to whatever scrap of an argument you had! You haven't been completely blown the fuck out!
Basically his style is way too similar to early Eminem, most of his lyrics are cringeworthy. he talks about problems like getting friendzoned and acts like hes 15. plus his contacts are gimmicky, i will admit the dude has good flow though but just can't stand his image or personality
Geez dude, chill out a little bit. I understand you're 13, very emotional and REALLY like FBZ but you don't need to get so upset. I mean as you said I am taking things out of context and being blown the fuck out. If my opinions are so wrong, why are you so upset?
Ah okay, I can see where you're coming from with the immature image and lyrics.
I don't see anything wrong with having style that is similar to your major influence(s).
Does he just sound so similar that there's nothing original about it?
>Danny Brown top 5 on so many lists
also all this Hopsin hate damn bruh not defending him or saying he shouldn't be bottom 5 but like 40% of the thread has him bottom 5 that's a crazy amount
Great tastes and distastes in music
Hopsin tries too hard to appeal to 15 year olds and his lyrics read like a pseudo intellectual Tyler the Creator track. He often has threads on /mu/ and everyone but shitposters and trolls hates him and his music. Most casuals have no idea who he even is.
Excuse the hipster level of pretentiousness, but I've been following Danny since he was putting out mixtapes and I was getting weed off him and his nigga Allen back when he kicked it in Inkster
>does he just sound so similar that there's nothing original about it
Yeah pretty much hopsin doesn't reinvent that rebelious persona he just sort of copies it with no interesting edge
Good list! You seem to be the more lyrical type and that's great! I will say that I like some of the rappers on your dislike list because of the beats and feel of their rapping. I would say instrumentals also play heavily in my list. Thank you for sharing with me :)
>trying to look cool for /mu/
If I was doing that I would have included Freddie Gibbs, Danny Brown, EL-P and a lot of other artists that get positive reviews on this board rather than someone like Krit.
to be fair I have only heard Rocky and Ferg albums and the rest of them I have just heard from features but no member stands out as being good. If you disagree explain why?
I do like some artists more for their production value like Kanye and Shabazz Palaces, definitely in my top 10, but trap music in general is too repetitive and boring for me especially if the lyrics are a bunch of nonsense.
Language of My World is actually a solid project, I think some of the Macklemore is unwarranted but he has made some god awful music.
1. Danny Brown
4. Kendrick Lamar
5. Childish Gambino (Camp is utter shit tho)
3. Mike G
5. Wiz Khalifa
I'm glad someone agrees with me about Macklemore i started listening to him years ago way before he was popular and i thought he was amazing i never thought hed blow up this much and its a shame that now that he has hes looked at as a joke
>enjoying rap only as a satirical genre
I don't even like any of the artists in your Top 4 but you are the reason memerap exists and you are a cancer that pollutes the genre for having these shit tastes in rap.
>dismissing all rap that isn't a joke
That is like saying Weird AL is the only good pop singer and saying all other pop is shit.
>not taking at least some rap seriously = bad taste in artists
Sorry but the term itself has become a meme and if you don't like it then maybe you are using it in the wrong context or have seen people use it in the wrong context. Memerap has been a thing ever since Youtube became an acceptable medium for listening to real music so deal with it.
Because he listens to chicago drill rather than the 'deep' shit that you pretend to be into, that makes him cancer? Jesus christ. Secondly, none of those are 'memerap' besides lil b and lil b is the shit so you're gay
>shit you pretend to be into
Why are you criticizing me for dismissing anon's favorite artists and then dismiss mine? This proves nothing other than the fact that you have no real opinions about rap.
>none of those are 'memerap' besides lil b and lil b is the shit so you're gay
Only lil B apologists are offended by the correct usage of the word memerap so I will assume that you also have bad taste in rap.
Chief Keef is becoming a meme because everyone hates him on /mu/ but he is not as popular as lil B on this board so he is not totally meme-tier yet.
>implying drill, a subgenre of trap, isn't as awful as the larger trap music genre.
1.Chance the Rapper
5.Run the Jewels
Those are just rappers I dislike there aren't many rappers I tend to just ignore the ones I don't like.
This is why it is hard to have an intelligent discussion about music on rap threads. The worst part about "memerap" is that it has become an accepted buzzword that kills all threads about hip hop.
kek at bottom 5 but you are so right it is scary
I really dont like tyler for his rapping anymore, im anxious to see what hes gonna make next hence hes really not into rap anymore, and direction wise. i like his filming and the way he thinks on art.
As for mac miller ive just liked him for years, ive watched him grow and get big and watch his music change and progress. all of his albums are way different from one another IMO.
And earl is just god teir. wait for his next project and he'll show up everyone
Challenge accepted I will post a reaction in a few minutes.
>tyler is good. love just stories and shit.
Check out Big K.R.I.T or Aesop Rock if you like lyricism but don't like Eminem-style immaturity. It is the 12 year old kid references and corny play on words that turn me off to Tyler but I agree he is lyrically gifted.
I am dying here these plebs really think Hopsin is some sort of lyrical god. The worst part is that very few of them understand basic grammar and probably only cling to Christianity because of their parents. Hopsin is such a tool I am almost embarrassed that he is considered part of the "conscious rap" subgenre because so many artists are good conscious rappers. There is a way to present these issues without sounding like an angsty 15 year old Eminem cover artist.
>This song disses everyone in my school, Hop nailed this.
The most meaningful lyrics I've ever had the pleasure of listening to!!
>0:43-0:46 sounds like me. :P
>Why do you seem so proud? This is what is wrong with our generation
>this song is so good because it speaks the truth. this is what our generation needs t o hear, ice cold water to the face. hopsin is a beast. im getting known quickly because i rap with meaning.. thumbs up if this song speaks to you.....
When eminem dies, I truly think hopsin will take his place. Just like em did with tupac
Not to mention the intense hypocrisy. My friend was a huge hop fan up until Knock madness.
I live in the city Kevin Gates is from and the people who enjoy him are ridiculously lame people. he's a local and i despise him. what do you see in him? maybe i just dislike him because of how many times i've heard people from where i live say "sateliiittes" god so annoying.
oh fuck nigga
threads like these are the reason I still use /mu/
I'm pretty sure most people commenting on Hopsin have never heard rap that isn't Top 40 until they listened to Hopsin for the first time.
>Tyler is a great artist with shit fans
I don't know if I would say great. He is 23 years old and still acts like he is 15 and his immaturity is pretty annoying in songs. If he grew up I think he could be a great rapper even though he would lose many shit fans.
Top 5 current:
1. Chance The Rapper
2. Kendrick Lamar
3. Joey Bada$$
4. Kanye West
5. Lil' B
2. A$AP Mob(I can't stand them individually)
3. J. Cole (Makes privileged rap)
4. Eminem (He's shit now)
1. MF Doom
2. Kanye West
3. Danny Brown
4. Gucci Mane
5. Kendrick Lamar
Honorable Mention: Earl Sweatshirt
2. J Cole (overrated ass nigga who can't make anything that will hold my attention for more than one listen)
3. Fredo Santana (i love chief keef tho)
4. Childish Gambino (he's just not cut out to be a rapper
5. Kid Ink (words cannot describe how much I hate this twitter trend ass nigga)
Honorable Mention: Big Sean (I watched his interview with Nardwuar and now it is impossible for me to like any of his music)
I really liked Bastard actually despite everything I said about his immaturity because I felt like it told a story very well and the songs fit in better than in Goblin. Wolf was alright but still not as lyrically memorable as Bastard. I might have to go back and listen to Bastard and Wolf again because this thread fuck you.
>4. Isaiah Rashad
my contemporary african american associate
4. Pusha T
5. Isaiah Rashad
HM: Flatbush, RTJ, Kendrick
1. Kid Ink
2. Sage the Gemini
4. Big Sean
5. Chief Keef
Nope I am 20 and listen to a decent amount of rap. I understand that OF has a young fanbase but that doesn't mean that all of Tyler's music is shit. His delivery is ok and like I said before he has lyrical talent.
>talks about maturity
Because they feel the need to use a username on 4chan? I mean, I can only think of a couple of reasons to use a trip like someone doing an AMA or something. No real reason to use them between threads though.
Privilege rap is rapping about how much you love a woman in a not so creative manner, while boasting about how talented and artistic you are.
>His whole catalog basically.
>Can't even make a decent club banger.
But to each their own I guess.
>implying I'm using a trip at this moment.
You're clinically autistic/retarded.
It's not "b8", it's a fact. Rap is not actual music, and no, I'm not a lewronggenerashun youtube kid. But if you're into bad music, it's your pejorative, not mine.
Show me where I said anything about Hopsin that wasn't laughing at his stupid fans or shitty music/ music videos. I hate Hopsin i just happen to forget about him on bottom 5 that doesn't mean I am a dickrider.
>his subject matter is corny
I will agree with all the other shit although I liked the beat to Zealots of Stockholm but BTI is one of the most interesting albums of the 2010s. If you read the screenplay to the album and then listened to all the songs in order you may understand it better. Camp was pretty cheesy and an overall 4/10 but the story at the end was interesting. I hate how people dismiss Childish because he isn't "hood" grow up niggas.
1. Kanye West
4. A$AP Rocky
5. Chance the Rapper
Just to say i have both hopsin & macklemore albums but never though too much of them.
>rapping about how much you love a woman in a not so creative manner, while boasting about how talented and artistic you are.
This describes the subject matter of at least one song by almost every rapper ever. Childish and Cole do this more but saying shit like "I get bitches, I fuck hoes" is equally generic so I don't see why this isn't a criticism of all rap.
Fair point although his albums are meant to be more like fiction loosely based on his life rather than actual conscious rap so I wouldn't criticize him too hard for this.
>Can't even make a decent club banger.
I give 0 fucks about this but I respect your opinion since I don't listen to club rap.
First time listening to Hopsin and I'm just trying to process everything that happened.
Then this guy summarized it quite nicely.
damn Jenna you know i really appreciate your determinism
if anyone wants a good hopsin laugh
used to get blazed and literally LMFAO with friends at his stupid ass lyrics, he was just always so butthurt and he's such a dramatic faggot pretending to be the defender of conscious hip hop
you see flatbush is cool, but i really got over them quick, the astral projecting zombie rapping is overboard and gets lame real quick.
have you heard of Underachievers? they are similar to what you like (ab/flat)
No problem I was lightweight defending Tyler but definitely not a fan of Hopsin.
very entry level but solid tastes outside of Rocky
Great distastes 2/2
Is Hopsin popular enough to be considered memerap?
I've not listened to Underachievers, but I've heard that comparison before. Is Indigoism a good place to start?
And on the note of Flatbush, I'm just really digging them at the moment because Better Off Dead clicked with me a couple months ago. What they do is fairly one-dimmensional (as D.R.U.G.S. shows), but they just do it really well. Plus Erick's production is ace.
>He hurt my feelings, must be shitposting.
1. Kendrick Lamar
2. Kanye West
4. MF Doom
5. Masta Ace
1. A$AP Hacky
2. Lil B-itch
3. Lil Wayng
5. Tylerchicken the Gayer
They'll never handle the truth. Poor kids.
>he thinks I'm upset or something
>I filtered you
>Replies to my next post
It's a common theory in the psychiatry world that rape victims often express the frustration and anger of their abuse through attempting to display their dominance over others, due to the fact that in the rape scenario they had the power (power of consent) taken from them in a forceful situation, the potential emotional scars from this event can often manifest in an attempt to "regain control" by attacking others, outlets such as the internet are usually outlets for this type of behavior.
We're here for you, jenna.
you were doing well until
>2. Lil B-itch
>3. Lil Wayng
>5. Tylerchicken the Gayer
weak as fuck my nigga Wayne and Hopsin may be wack but this post made me cringe
captcha: offender basedkuw
not even shitting
>lil b singlehandedly turned an entire genre into a laughing stock meme
mhm. truly the best there ever was, literally and without a doubt, no questions two ways my nigga, all ways lead to the basedgod. seriously you can't compete lil nigga get out while you still can
Jenna explain then instead of shitposting. No one is even mad.
Just because lil B is satire and makes songs with the intention of pissing people off and being funny/whimsical doesn't mean you have to like him or even not think he sucks. I am the samefag that was arguing about Tyler and Hopsin and even I agree lil B is pretty bad even if he doesn't take himself seriously like Hopsin.
lil B apologists are so dumb
The fact that Hopsin and the other nobody decided to parody the Game in a serious manner is lol
rough quick top 5
1. Gucci Mane
2. Meechy Darko (all of flatbush)
3. Action Bronson
4. Don Trip
5. Quavo (Migos together)
five is not enough...
2. Big Sean
3. Nicki Minaj
4. King Louie (how do people like this generic trash?)
5. A$AP Ant (everyone in A$AP aside from rocky/ferg)
Well yea I'm pretty sure anyone that has ever been on HNHH or /mu/ for more than a day knows this. That is a fair point and I judge him in the same way I judge Weird Al but lil B has no entertainment value outside of his image as a hater and name drops on songs like "Miley Cyrus" or "Fuck KD". I don't even like his sound or production very much but he releases so much music that I wouldn't even know how to start getting into him without losing like a month of my life listening to parody music.
>not rough enough, too quick
didn't even cum
Fair point I guess he does what he does better than any other rapper in the game now so in that sense lil B is the best satirical rapper of all time. That being said, satirical rap is a shitty genre so I apologize for not liking it as much as real rap.
>ctrl-f lil herb
>only two results
>ctrl-f denzel curry
>only two results
>ctrl-f lil bibby
These three are the best in the game right now and you fuckers better start listening to them
If you are being satirical then fuck you because you are only further reinforcing my assertion that you are immature.
If you are serious
Listen to more rap and consider what you have just said after listening to Nas, Biggie, 2Pac, Big K.R.I.T. or any other rapper. Kendrick is good but to say he is "real OG shit" is going a bit far.
By bad anon I didn't really pick up on what >>48797284 was doing with that list and I thought you were responding to his top 4 not bottom 5. I have no issue with you
>tl;dr feel pretty stupid right now
That wasn't meant to say Big k = the other 3; I just wanted to provide a modern example of a rapper that often explores the themes of humble beginnings in a more interesting way then does Kendrick. I wanted to include krit so that I am not accused of being a "le wrong generation" faggot
>tl;dr stop implying faggot I didn't say he was a legend
>implying that Mt Olympus isn't a masterful and honest criticism of Big K.R.I.T.'s casual fans
>implying that he doesn't explore the "haters" trope in the most interesting manner ever with this song.
Sorry what are you complaining about?
complaining? get off your fucking high horse you sphincter sore edgy aut. i was simply posting the lyrics of Mt Olympus because I'm a fan of KRIT. the tldr of your pretentious post is sufficiently summarized in >>48798642
so fuck yourself
-Tyler, the creator
-most of TDE (Ab-Soul, ScHool Boy Q, Kendrick.)
-Danny Brown/Gambino I can't pick
I though you were >>48798265 responding back to me but apparently you are just a random anon that feels the need to resort to an ad hominem before even really being engaged in a debate. I'm sorry if my post caused you any sort of emotional distress but I also like K.R.I.T
I kekked pretty hard but I never said Keef belongs in any top 5 I am saying that neither drake nor future belong in the bottom 5 as >>48798968 was implying.
See my list for clarifications on what i enjoy
I'm not sure if I like Earl, Tyler, Q or Gambino as much as Drake and does MC Ride even do solo work?
Your distastes are 5/5 but it seems the we will have to disagree when it comes to Drake.
well i should say death grips but if the question is rappers id stick with mc ride
still fuck drake, and im not sying that because i cant appreciate the sub genre, i love frank ocean
i can agree with all ur dislikes (especially mackerel) altho too much Odd future, tyler is by far the most overrated on your list and tries to hard. if you like TDE you will like Isaiah Rashad.
Drake is a rapper not an R&B singer he is more like Childish Gambino and Kid Cudi than Ocean.
I liked that one a lot and R.E.M is still probably my favorite krit song but i think 4eva n a Day is the stronger album overall. The songs just fit better together imo. Regardless it is the difference between a 9/10 and 8/0 for me.
>arguably best music is R&B
Songs to prove this point?
>The case for Drake as a rapper
> The Calm
I'm not sure about Headlines but he can rap well and the fact that he has good RnB tacks does not take away from his ability as a rapper.
