I've been obsessed with The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Townes Van Zandt over the last year and I don't really have anyone in my circle to talk about music with especially music that pre-dates the 90's. You must've never listened to it then, because in most songs the beat completely switches. In every song the melody changes and instruments are always being taken out and being added. It's actually very engaging.

Fuck this sperg. He's indeed very talented and has a vast knowledge on theory, but when it comes to make music with emotions and soul, he's a inept. He can't make a single song without using those fancy theory concepts like negative harmony and super-ultra-hyper-mega-meta lydian (?) scale, which in the end sounds lile shit.
Anyway, this is just a reminder that your social skills are just as important as your musical skills if you wanna be a successful musician.

Check out XTC's early stuff. A lot of what grew into this was rooted in Fripp's work with te League of Gentlemen which had XTC's original keyboardist in the line-up.
