It didn't help that we ran an export that was widely mocked before the cup even started because it had no midfield. New people need guidance from experienced people, otherwise you have growing pains, like dropping into the fetus.

I remember the day when several anons here offered to blow Normlperson because they were so happy about the way he cucked Sou when /mlp/ played /f/ nearly half a decade ago (insane how long we've been here). Granted, I think that's too far in the other direction, but we've always had a special relationship with our managers. All of them worked hard, and we showed our appreciation for it. To address the issues raised without getting into personal drama. Spring was abysmal, we all know that, we've been through what went wrong. We changed the way we prepare for the cup, focusing more on cooperation and abandoning the gauntlet format, because it obviously didn't work out for us. Right now we have a fresh load of Summer teams to throw our ideas against and fine tune them into something good. The team already has a couple versions of a potential future export with minor changes to see what works best against a wide selection of teams that we're constantly working on. We're shit right now, but it's not because of lack of caring or trying to git gud. On the same note, the exports and testing are a collective effort, and I don't think there's much point in pointing fingers and naming names when things go to shit. You can totally blame MB for the livemanaging against /his/ tho ^:)

We've had bad formations before, but we always managed to get through based on good tactics and live management. Ever since neo/mlp/ took over, both the formations and the tactics have been hot garbage. Any manager with a shred of self respect would have resigned months ago. /mlp/ is effectively hijacked and sabotaged by people who are grinding the team into the dirt while refusing to let go of the trigger, and the only people still watching are offsite bronies and generalfags who have no board pride whatsoever.

Testing is:

You need to be familiar with how the game works. There's too much noise in PES AI vs AI to make sense of tactics if you have no game knowledge. Rather than looking at pure results, you need to identify patterns. How are we scoring. How are we conceding? Etc etc.

>knowing your opponent
If you don't know who you're playing against, you don't know what to test against. By checking out the opponent's formation and the tactics they've played in the past, you know what you can expect.

>knowing yourself
At the same time, you need to be aware of your own formation and tactics. If your formation has a glaring weakness, like being vulnerable to quick counters, you'd be a fool to not expect the opponent to try to exploit that. You tweak their tactics to make the opponent take full advantage of that, to a point where it seems they become unbeatable.

Knowing yourself also means not playing the same exact tactics twice in a row. If your tactics were visible on screen, it means your opponent also saw them, and if your opponent saw them, that means he will be able to beat them. You need to be familiar with a variety of playing styles, and your formation must be able to play several ways. One trick poners eventually get punished when people figure out the trick.

How necessary this is differs from person to person, but overall more time means more tests means better results. It doesn't even need to mean you get one perfect set of tactics, it can also mean having several tactics you can switch between if one doesn't work well on game day.

Plan A never works. You will eventually get to a game where you are losing, and you need to make changes. Thinking before the game about what can happen and how you should deal with it will negate a ton of panic during the live game.

Typical live managing tip: Never go more defensive when you're losing. Games last too short, and if you need to come back, you need to step on the gas.
