They need to know how to defeat Storm Tirek. They meet Capper, who knows the bird pirates and secures them a ride on the pirate ship to their kingdom, while tipping off Tempest.
Tempest attacks the ship, forcing the M6 to get the fuck out and bail, right into the water. And would you look at that, the birdponies turned seahorses are there! Queen fishhorse tells the M6 that Tirek's power is in his staff, wishes them good luck on their journey and sends them back to Equestria. Tirek finds them first, cue the tornado battle, staff gets rekt, end of movie.

Well the hippogryphs aren't there for the battle, probably because they already got rekt by Tirek beforehand and that's also why they're hiding underwater. They'll only relate their story, tel the M6 who's who and to destroy his staff. I'm not saying it's not dumb, just what I think will happen.

I mean, defeating a villain by "grab his staff" is just so anticlimatic compared to the other villains; Even a giant rainbow is better.

I'm kind of hoping something else happens after storm king (I was hoping that strife guy from the comics might have been the true villain at the end or something), but its looking like that's all we're getting.

I mean, we even had an after fight image from the trailer, where the other 5 gather around twilight and hug her for being so awesome with the staff.
(not a big fan of that being how the day is saved either its a situation where the other 5's contribution is "HOLD ONTO TWILIGHT!" and then twilight godmodes to save the day with the magical item.

It might be more than what's shown-- I doubt it'll be as simple as the book states.
I mean, what about that green orb shown in the "look and find" of the first 2 pages? that seems important, if strife is in the movie like some people are thinking, that could be the misfortune malachite.

They probably grab the storm king's staff to beat him in a "round one" kind of way, then either he gets a powerup like Hippogryph orb or Strife shows up from that green orb, and there's a "round two FINAL boss" thing, with Tempest Helping the mane six Defeat whoever the finale villain is.
That way it justifies her being welcomed because she was vital in defeating the villain too.


I mean, twilight EXPLICITLY says "its the power of friendship" when looking at something, so there's SOMETHING besides the staff that factors into the final battle-- Maybe the hippogryph orb has the power of friendship in it or there's something else?

So it seems to me that Stormy succeeds in transferring the princesses' magic to his staff and he losing control of it.
This raises a concern for me, plot hole wise. I'm fine with Discord not being in the movie—off doing his own thing at the time—but it's established that he can sense magical disturbances like magical drains and such and even knew when the 3 princesses gave their power to Twilight.
So if Storm King does drain them, like Tirek, Discord should be able to sense that and show up to help.
The inevitable comic tie-in that shows what various side characters are up to during the movie had better give a good excuse.

Discord time travels to the future to get away from the Friendship festival, because he's like "fuck that harmony shit" and figures that the farther away he can get is to metaphysically slide through time to when its over. (since he can do shit like that according to the comics).


he arrives in the future 10 minutes after it happeend, and since everything turned out alright without him there, he sees no reason to travel backwards in time to when he left and just rolls with everything.
