See, in the context of the scroll, it actually makes perfect sense why he'd do that if he didn't know it was a dragon. Shit, even if he did know it was a dragon, it might've made sense if he did it.

Because in the context of the scroll, all he knows is that the title was bestowed by someone else thousands of years ago to another they respected and befriended. This comic actually ruined a really heartwarming idea that gave an extra layer to Pinkie Pie being named an honorary Yak, because it means that term is actually special to Rutherford and isn't just tacked on, it's a title given to someone they actually care about. Shit! For all he knew everyone did that, and it was only Ulysses that would never replicate it, which would mean it's a special once in a lifetime thing to him.
