Man, all of this has a lot of potential for a both serious and heartwarming epic-length story.

I imagine it could start out rgre before Luna's banishment, worked into the fight as Luna attempts to both overthrow her sister and keep her lover safe as he tries his damnedest to help her followed by both of them getting banished after he's wounded and she flies into a rage or whatever.
Then during her banishment I feel like the gender roles would potentially work out to be more Earth like as they both live out the centuries together, terraforming and creating a new home and eventually beginning to fill it with their own children. This could provide a great culture clash with two vastly different civilizations meeting/colliding after Luna's and her lover's banishment is up. Not only would her lover's place and role in things offend the rgre society's sensibilities, but their hundreds if not thousands of Earth-like gender role descendants would throw them into complete confusion and a sense that they would need to change them to have gender roles more like Equestria.

IRL stuff has has kept me lurking for the last couple of days. I was trying to come up with a good comment to add to the discussion and (you) came along and took the words out of my brain.

As far as I can tell, the story has been told through 3 main perspectives though one is currently in "parts unknown". Much has happened in the other 2 and things are happening concurrently. I think that's why the 'exposition' is written the way it has been. Conveying the world from the remaining POVs, the conflict and character emotions.

Story progression, as opposed to stomach-wrenching lengths of exposition on the mundane.
I don't care enough about a scorchmark on a wall to read +5 lines dedicated to it, before moving on to another +10 lines about random debris pebble #13049999872. Just sum that shit up in 30 words or less, and get to the next scene. If the next scene is more "talk to pony who's virtually unconscious in the medical ward", cut through that in around 60 words or less, and move on.

So far, we've gotten only about 100 lines of interest in the whole story (the beginning ~60 lines, and the parts ~which are also laden with excessive and unnecessary detail, to the point where it becomes monotonous~ about the M6 looking for clues in the trainyard) that actually progress the story's key focus: the kidnapping of an important person. The capture and nigh-immediate escape of glimglam is something that is kinda interesting as a side note at BEST, but we've gotten upwards of 2300 lines of pointless and boring exposition in a 2939 line story with NO end to it in sight.
To re-use my cake analogy, that's ~78.26% icing and ~21.74% actual cake.
I just want to see those numbers shifted to at LEAST a 1.0:1.5 exposition/story progression ratio.
This also effects story pacing. We'd have actually gotten to the part of the story where a plan is formulated, clues have been uncovered past the "we found this at the area the kidnappers knew we'd look, and obviously planned it out well enough that they wouldn't be concerned with what they left behind there" clues, and they'd be well on their way to finding anon. As it is now, our main heros have barely gotten out of bed, dragged their hooves over to the train yard, went full autism mode with unnecessarily analyzing of every last scratch on every pebble they walked past, and haven't even picked a direction to search in.

She of all ponies should know in a kidnapping that the first 48 hours are the most important. Why the FUCK would she do something as incredibly stupid as to not just stop by for ~2 minutes to see if anyone was going to be awake enough to answer questions, and get a move on when they couldn't. That could have been summed up VERY nicely in TWO SENTENCES.

Here's an example: The INCREDIBLY unnecessary exposition that laces throughout lines 2525 to about line 2610 (celly arives at the hospital, talks to the doctors, and VERY briefly talks with a semi-conscious Mrs. Cream, before laborously detailing the clothes the unconsious mare is wearing) should have only taken about 40 lines, rather than 85.

And look at line 2546:
">The various metal cabinets, carts and hints of bed frame that you can see between the privacy curtains dividing up the room are in much the same shape, each article practically radiating its cleanliness to any would-be onlookers."
That's the 3rd or 4th sentence dedicated entirely to how a hospital has an atmosphere of sterile cleaning products. We get it. one or two sentences TOPS is all there should be on that matter.

This is all "shit that's briefly summed up to get the point across in the first ~600 lines of the story to set the mood before the adventurers leave on their quest" content.
Yet here we are sitting on an additional +2300 lines of inner monologue and over-detailed filler.

But with the exceptionally harsh environment, and absolutely TINY population on the beginnings-of-terraformed moon surface, it'd be almost unavoidable to have every member (regardless of gender) pulling as much weight as they could.

Some native american tribes had a similar system.
The females usually stayed around the camp to tend to the children who still needed to breast feed, but when such priorities weren't present, the women had to be able to go out and hunt along with the men. Likewise, while the women were stowing items away after a hunt upon their return, the men were gutting the animals and preparing them to go over the fire or into the smoke hut for preservation (which usually was considered women's work).

The general rule of thumb when times are exceptionally tough is "if there's work to be done, everyone pitches in to the best of their capabilities, or they don't get to eat". And there's ALWAYS work to be done.

In fact just about every other post defending ghouls doesn't bother with proving his worldbuilding, merely defending ghouls with words of 'But I like the story! That's good enough for me!'

Perhaps I did go a bit overboard, however, my main focus was and still is that the exposition makes the story nigh-unbearable.
I don't even read the green anymore, just skim the first and last sentences of each post. (Which, kinda works to shore up the god-awful exposition levels.)
