joining after season 4 ended,I was introduced by a documentary and I knew she was going to be an alicorn. The thing that got me disappointed was the build up when I watched MMC,I was hyped to see how she developed for it.

I remember sitting in a dark room looking at a picture with Luna at a lake at night (It wasn't this one but this is close enough) while listening to volcksonia's remix of this theme.

I can't find the track anywhere except for my mp3 player, on which I put it the day after the album was released, even though it says that the album was free. I bet barely anyone has even heard that version of this theme. And the picture I was looking at is long lost now. This moment cannot be replicated anymore, at all, it only exists in my head. Another thing. It's not explained in the video, but something I learned while reading about visual flashcards for learning foreign languages. If you try really hard to recall something, and then finally recall it, it will stick with you that much stronger. This effect is doubled if there's something else at stake, like guessing the meaning of a foreign word on the flashcard. That rush of emotion leaves an impression on your mind, because feeling plays a big part. I think it was already explored here in NTT but there are two possibilities here, depending on how MLP ponies see sex. Estrus is basically a mechanism for regulating periodes when a mare can have foals because horses don't know any better, but ponies are sapient.

If ponies do indeed follow estrus that means they only see sex for procreation and nothing more. It's not used as a recreational activity. Maybe excessive foreplay is the norm for lovers, after all ponies do kiss and hug, but penetration isn't something they just do for fun - just when the time is right to have children.

But ponies can take care of their foals at any season, not to mention they are the ones who actually control the seasons. In this case it's possible that they just ignore instincts and go for whatever they want. In a society like theirs there's no point in following nature's idea when to have sex. Not only do they think for themselves, they also fall in love and recieve stimulation on emotional level. So that would mean they don't really follow what mother nature tells them - after all, they control every aspect of nature with magic.

That's not to say that in this case estrus doesn't play a role at all, it probably does affect them, just not in the way it does for real horses (and certainly not in the meme hyperestrus way). Spring is probably the preferable "love season", maybe H&H day plays a role in that timing or something. All in all, there are a lot of ways to apply real horse physiology to MLP ponies, I don't think it's a strict rulebook here, more like a vague guideline. It's up to us to get creative with that.
