Fair enough. But going with something lazy doesn't do our community justice, in my opinion.
Of the mane 6 line-up, only Twilight looks like a vector. She isn't - but it kinda looks like it, and she suffers from it, as does Starlight and Trixie. When comparing them to the others (AJ for example) their shading - or lack thereof - looks cheap and uninspired.
I just think that when we can do better, we should do better.

Even if we take another image, Bon-Bon must either be completely dithered, or in grey-scale without looking way off. And the same goes for Lyra, for that matter.
I made a Vinyl a while back in a matching size to the Octavia we already have. Someone said it didn't fit in, so I made one based off the original image, but that wasn't good enough, and the result is that we now have no Vinyl next to Octy and it's surrounded by stuff now so it's too late anyway. I'm not entirely sure where I'm going with this, but maybe we should care a little bit less about what fits in and what doesn't. You could probably nitpick half of our portraits and find some reason for why they don't belong.

I believe the only portrait that's really out of place is the second trixie, not only is it a duplicate of a character we already build, but she also has outlines, while all the other portraits do not

If people want vector images, then how can you be against outlines?

The reason I (and presumably the other pixelfag aswell, though I won't speak for him) don't want to use vectors is because they don't really 'pop'. Someone asked earlier why not just add shading to it later, and it's because it's much harder to do.
I'm sure >>30389925 worked hard on it, but the only thing that stands out is her glasses. Not her wild electric mane, or exuberant or confident expression, because she doesn't have it.

As the one who did the one based on the vector, I agree. Using a flat colored image for pixel graphics tends to be very uninteresting. I'm used to doing flat minimalistic vector stuff, so I'm well aware of the limitations.

The new one has a lot more visual interest, although I can see how people think it doesn't look like vinyl. Maybe some spikier hair and (perhaps) glasses could improve it?

It's definitely the closest of them thus far. I'm not sure I could put my finger on what exactly is off because it's less one major problem and more a handful of small ones. The shadows are very heavy or else the body is too dark, nose is a bit too pointed looking because of the shading. The hair would look better a little lighter in my opinion. The eyes like you mentioned. The ears look good but they're fairly different from the other portraits. I'm not sure why there's a light blue outline going around the whole thing, including through the hair along the face and the hair looks too well maintained and generic.

There's no question he's a better pixel artist than I am, but he's missing out on things that give the characters a unique sense beyond just the colors they have.

They would change it back, they would add to their mess, they would try to distract me by placing random pixels elsewhere.
