I feel like Trixie would have been entertaining as a hobby, and had been performing long before she even thought of dropping out. That she realized that people seem to like her shows, Trixie would immediately notice that ponies were leaving her tips after the show. So when she realized that it was pretty profitable, she began growing bored of the school, and planned on going professional. Her parents after a tiny bit of coercion agree and buy her a small travelers cart. Smaller than her cart in Boast Busters, mind you, she would probably still be a bit too young to travel Equestria alone.
