Movie, probably? The first wave of LoM is based off of a single line from the S6 premiere, specifically where Sunburst comments about spells designed to, in Starlight's words "magically compel us to pick up where we left off."

"Well, actually, there's several. Mist Mane's Material Amity, Rockhoof's Rapport, Flash Prance's Fellow... ship... [ahem] But I-I get the feeling the princess isn't looking for a spell."

Other than Flash Prance's name being changed to Flash Magnus, this is all we've heard of these characters. A throw away gag. The Somnamambula thing is probably more of Whitley's Ancient Egypt expy.

A pretty cute story, though predictable in its premise. Mistmane herself was rather bland, old Fluttershy but it picked up with bringing in Lil' Luna, I liked her characterization here and her role in the story. She would be the type more likely to communicate with animals given her nature. I am hopeful one of the next Legends of Magic gives Celestia spotlight like this, so far she's mostly served as an antagonistic foil for Luna and would like to see her get some positive development on her own too.

That said it does a few things annoying. Why are the princesses making the new Canterlot Castle if they were living in the Everfree Forest up until Luna's banishment? And the idea that Luna designed Canterlot on her own (I doubt animals could actually contribute much in input) seems kind of silly to make her the creator of rather than actual architects, not everything needs to revolve around / be the result of the princesses.

The comics have done this more than once now, in reflections they are also seen living in Canterlot castle when the show has them living in the everfree castle up until Luna's banishment. Well, I enjoyed this one since it had a link to current day ponies.
But I still fault Rockhoof's one for having zero link to the present.

Basically, the LOM comics are high quality (surprisingly so, given how bad IDW's been lately), but they still need a link of some kind to the world building, the mane six or the princesses to really work. (like I was expecting some sort of link to AJ for rockhoof)

8/10. This one wasn't stuck building a story completely from whole cloth, but it showed the spirit of the series nicely.

And frankly, it adds some nice color to Sunburst. Including the irony of a solar-themed pony who much prefers being inside or at least being heavily shaded and insulated from icky nature.

4/10, maybe 5/10. Hamfisted "but muh environment" story, unoriginal Fluttershy expie who barely contributes anything to the story, and of course walking all over the existing lore and characterization for the Sisters. It's unfortunate that they seem to be running with "hey, we can just make shit up as we go, right?" for this series - it keeps these "Legends" from being truly interesting.

At this rate I'd be more interested in seeing shenanigans with Sunburst than the "Legends" the story is supposed to be about.

It's really sad nobody read Journal of Two Sisters. It's so overlooked.

One of the part that I love about that journal s that Luna was the more social one of the sisters.
It adds more tragedy essence to her becoming the NightMare Moon in the future and provides mystery to what caused it.

Story has been done a million times before, and Luna comes off like a pansy, but it's pretty inoffensive and the art is decent (really like the armour designs).
