I didn't add anything, but instead altered a few things.

1: Brought the eyes in a bit closer together

2: Rotated the eyes to better fit the angle of the head

3: Erased the bridge of the nose

4: Rotated both sides of the jaw inward to make it more feminine

5: Slightly raised and rotated the mouth to better fit the angle of the head

From one drawfag to another: practice, practice, practice. Trace over other artist's work to get a feel of how they move their pencil, how they sculpt their figures. It helps tremendously. Never stop drawing, and keep all of your art. Even particularly embarrassing pictures. After a while, go back to those old drawings and re-draw them to see how much you've improved.

If you keep on, keep on, keep on practicing, it's impossible to get worse.

From what I recall, she's traditionally been drawn with her hair down over her eyes so that the nature of her eyes remains a mystery. Presumably she either has one arimaspi eye or both human eyes and arimaspi eye in the middle and keeps them hidden behind her hair because she thinks ponies and other satyrs will think she's even more of a freak if they see them.

Personally, I rather like the idea of her having 3 eyes. 2 human and 1 arimaspi.
I still think she's cuter with her hair over her eyes though.

Yep. Got to the third stage yesterday, but decided to replay stage 2 to try to get a level up. Also missed an arrow upgrade I think.

Unless I'm just super rusty, I'd say it's a lot harder than the original. Mostly because of the odd jump mechanic.

You can camp out enemies with the new projectile controls often and I think I made it so that collecting a certain amount of those things all the enemies drop increases your health a bit. Never noticed that. I guess I'll have to pay more attention. Health was not really an issue much more than in the original though. Most deaths were from falls.

IIRC health really mostly became an issue in the first dungeon in the original, as I found out once when I did a casual speedrun through the first few stages without killing anything. Also, I've no idea what changes you've made to the dungeon, so that's why I wanted to try to get a level up after level 2.

Also I wasn't able to change the dungeons unfortunately, their format is apparently different and hasn't been documented so the level editor can't edit them, but I might try to just figure it out myself at some point. How exactly would it make things easier?
In terms of how fast you can get around, I didn't really feel like it made that much difference, it just altered where in the jump the time was spent. In the original, and most platformers, jumps make you accelerate fairly smoothly to the top, before hovering a little bit and then falling back down.
In the Hopegame jump mechanic, you almost instantly get launched to the top of the jump, hover much longer, and then fall back down.

You probably get used to it after a while, but I do think that overall it will make the game more difficult for most people. At least at first.

I never played Kid Icarus as a kid, so I don't know if that was originally a thing, but that is incredibly frustrating. If your head its a ceiling, you pretty much loose all momentum and fall straight down to your likely death. This is a bad thing, because you're often expected to make jumps through small areas where bumping your head is very likely.
In a game with platforming, the ability to control ones momentum is one of the most important mechanics in the game.

Yeah, although in that example it didn't result in death, that's exactly what I'm talking about. If you jumped one or two pixels earlier there, you could easily plummet straight past the platform you are trying to get on and die.

Actually I noticed now it is possible, just pretty hard. I played a Mega Man rom hack a while ago that had a really annoying spot like this in the Wood Man stage where you had to jump at essentially just the right pixel and I think I got the idea from there, since it was definitely annoying getting that right but getting it down felt pretty rewarding. And this spot is in the beginning of the level instead of halfway through like in that Mega Man hack, but maybe I should have this kind of jump only in the later levels of the game so that it's a smoother difficulty curve.

Possibly, but Super Meat Boy has a completely different kind of jumping mechanics. It's super floaty, and you generally have a lot of control in the air. That's very rarely the case in NES games, and Kid Icarus is no exception.
I'm also not personally a fan of floaty jump mechanics. IMO games like the Mega Man series, Castlevania: SOTN, etc. hit a really good balance when it comes to jump mechanics.
That said, I still prefer more rigid jump mechanics with no air control (early Castlevanias, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, etc) over super-floaty.

I think I failed to get to the point fully.
The main point is that there's good difficulty and bad difficulty.
Good difficulty is the kind that makes you feel like the outcome is based on skill. The kind where every time you die, you know it's because you made a mistake or got careless.
The kind that feels like it's challenging but not impossible, and makes you want to play the game and get better at it.
Games like the Mario games, Mega Man games, Castlevanias, Souls games, Bloodborne, etc.

Bad difficulty is when the outcome is based on randomness, or the game just screws you over in an instant without giving you a chance to react, relying on pure memorization of where dangers pop up to get past. Sadly, this kind of difficulty was fairly common in NES games on the lower end of the quality scale. Out of classic games, Battletoads is probably the most notable for having this kind of difficulty (relying purely on memorization, not randomness).

I'm aware that some games, such as I Wanna Be This Guy, I Wanna Be The Boshy, various SMW romhacks and many Super Mario Maker levels have made various bad kinds of difficulty into a sort of subgenre of its own catering to ultra-masochists who enjoy spending hours learning how to do countless pixel-perfect executions in a row, but that doesn't make it good game design in general.

I people are really feeling like it's bad difficulty in the hack then I'll probably just make a separate patch that makes things easier, but keep the original difficulty too as the default option, because I personally really liked the tricky jumps when I playtested it. I played up to the beginning of world 2 now. Yeah, that one spot in level 3 is definitely a bit annoying. It feels kinda like it's abusing a flaw in the game mechanics to pad difficulty.

I did another "NG+" playthrough and got a bunch more screenshots.
I think there should be at least a few from each level starting from 1-2 at least.
These are a bit more "actiony", as I mapped the screenshot function to a controller button to more easily be able to screenshot in the middle of action.

I had a bit of trouble getting them all uploaded because of how shitty and broken imgur's upload system is when dealing with multiple files,

I also found a HUGE skip in the third dungeon.
Thanks to the increased jump height and the clipping glitch I found before, you can skip almost the entire dungeon and never even encounter an eggplant wizard.
This is done by going right as far as you can from the entrance, then jumping off the spike thingy in the room with the ladder at the top that you're only supposed to be able to come down from.
IIRC, there were 2 of those rooms, and then I used the clipping glitch to pass through the sloped platform in the third one-way room.
From there it's only a few more rooms to the boss.

A few suggestions:
* Replace Palutena with Celestia
* Replace Medusa with Queen Chrysalis
* Replace the shopkeepers with ponies or satyrs

I've been following them since sometime 2014 I believe, although I was there for the original Ruby story that started it before it became a general.

I don't recall any stories about Safe Haven, but that might have been before I became a regular. Satyrs haven't really been a topic over there, but I'm sure there are other strange waifus who could have satyr offspring. The alp-luachra might make an interesting one. Or Annabelle the ghost pony. Orchid satyr would be an interesting one for sure, seeing as she's a giant kaiju.

Anon opened his fresh newspaper, sighing with content as he let go of one side of the paper, sipping on a newly brewed cup of coffee.

It was a quiet morning. A rare thing when you live with Pinkie Pie. He bit off a chunk of the bagel he'd prepared, savoring the light and slightly salty butter along with the raspberry jam that had a tiny hint of bitterness to it spread onto the insides of the bagel, satisfied with the work he had done on his breakfast.

Then, it all ended. He heard Pogo's frantic hoofsteps aimed towards the kitchen door, Anon calculated.

He waited two seconds exactly before stretching out his arm to cover the door, which Pogo ran into momentarily afterwards with an "oof!"

Pogo looked gobsmacked towards Anon.
"How did you know when I'd run through here?"

Anon shrugged as he put his hand on Pogo's shoulder.
"You have to be very precise with Pinkie and listen for her sound cues. Why are you running, again?"

Pogo attempted to struggle against Anon's firm grip.
"There's really no time to explain that."

Anon shook his head.

Anon looked at Pogo, with a serious face.
"There are few situations a man should run from. This is indeed one of them."

Pogo didn't hesitate with getting away as fast as possible. He sped out the kitchen door, with Pinkie stomping into the kitchen soon after.

"WHERE IS HE," Pinkie demanded to know.
Anon lowered his newspaper to answer, with a very elegant "Oh, he went to Ho... Snrk."

Pinkie tore the newspaper away, her deep blue mane pressed against eachother's forehead.
"Don't even THINK of laughing, Anon! This isn't funny!"

Anon couldn't stop giggling inside, simply replying back with "Oh it is to me, honey."

That was the first broken nose he's ever gotten that he had fun getting.

My personal head canon for Gale was that he grew up being worried for the family and would often do a lot of the chores around the house.
