You say that, but the fact is that most of the more permanent changes introduced each season end up pissing people off and leading to more and more pessimism from fans. Twilicorn caused a big dropoff in viewership that I don't think the fandom ever recovered from. Same with the treebrary's destruction, EqG, and new characters like Cadence, Flurry Heart, and Starlight.

Eventually every fan encounters some new change or episode that really rubs them the wrong way. Thorax's rushed mutation in the S6 finale was that for me. And after this happens, your perception of the show is permanently changed and you become more jaded and less optimistic about future seasons. The amount of people who feel this way can only increase as time goes on, and that's probably why /mlp/ is such a cesspool of negativity.

The Discord communities I've seen always end up rarely discussing the subject they revolve around. It usually happens only when a new member joins and that's just so people find out what the newcomer's opinions are. After that nothing till something happens.

The thing is that it's taken too far. Disagreeing with someone is seen as an argument and people do everything they can to avoid it.
Arguments are a big part in discussing something because otherwise you just have people stating their opinions and then people agreeing with them, never disagreeing.

I want to know why someone likes an episode I think is shit and if some of his reasoning is dubious it's nice to talk further about it or point out faults about it. But if that happens the equilibrium is destroyed and because identities the fact that that disagreement happened now leaves a lasting impression on people and changes the dynamic of the entire chat.

I've seen discussions where someone will say why they disliked an episode and it's been fine but I think usually it's just been people tossing out their opinions in general. The problems come up when someone wants a debate, which is fine, but when the other person doesn't. Like they're not saying "I'm right and you mustn't debate me", they just don't feel like being grilled on why they liked what you didn't.

Basically some people are really argumentative and opinionated and that can annoy others, and then you get places where lots of those personality types gather in one place (other chans like Ponychan and Ponyville where names are often used also, for example, suffer from vast numbers of these) and that's where as someone enjoying it it can be really shit as you say "actually I quite liked this one..." and just get dogpiled to hell and back

As I said. There are plenty of ways to discuss something without shitty attitudes.

The difference really boils down to how differences of opinion are handled. Some will respect them and so you have a nice friendly discussion and debate and where necessary respectfully agree to disagree on certain things.

It's hard to get across what I mean, I guess. It's something I saw a lot back in my ponychan days and the few times I've dared venture into splinter site ponyville - you'd get these guys who absolutely couldn't abide by anyone, for example, not frothing with rage at Twilicorn. It wasn't just a civilised debate but rather "this show has gone to shit and YOU are part of the problem because you will just eat up any shit they serve you" if you dared share a positive perspective instead of joining their crusade to write angry letters and tweets to Hasbro or whatever these guys actually wanted from you.

So, in other words, Celestia and Luna must make sure Cadence doesn't have any more kids, nor do Flurry and Twilight ever make families themselves?
Because Flurry means that mixing an alicorn with a unicorn results in another alicorn.
Them being effectively immortal, any kid means the number of alicorns gets higher for good.

Account for the fact said kids can also have kids of their own while normal ponies age and die eventually and it's basically assured Equestria is going to become an Alicorn-only kingdom in the far-off future unless they forbid all of them from ever having kids.
