Personally I think most things in MLP have an abnormal level of sentience and sapience, and in universe 'critters' are creatures who aren't able to communicate conventionally like pones and the other civilized people can, which is why they don't get lumped in as people too.

This is true. It's hard to say really.
Take Angel for example. He can't talk, but he shows strong signs of being sapient.

In the case of the arimaspi, I wouldn't say there is much doubt. The one in the show was shown to break into the griffon village to steal a treasure, and that isn't something a non-sapient beast would ever do, since the treasure has no nutritional value or use other than monetary value or as a status symbol.

Well the whole 'deadbeat mom' Cadance thing comes from a story in the RGRE threads. In it, Anon and Cadance dated when they were teenagers before she hooked up with Shining. Anon knocked Cadance, but Cadance didn't want the kid (who was also name Venus but was an alicorn with canine teeth instead of a satyr) so she broke up with him and dumped Venus on him once she was born.

I don't really browse these threads that often, so RGRE Venus's backstory is what I default to when talking about Satyr Venus.

So in my mind it's less that Anon and Cadance had an affair but instead it's just Cadance was immature and shitty as a teenager. Hence you can have Venus without having infidelity on her mother's part.

I like this idea, but I can't see Cadence being a deadbeat mom.
I want to imagine that they mutually broke up and Cadence left the child with him because she had no other choice, what with her being a young teen and a princess and all. If news were to get out that an alien human knocked up a young princess, then it would be bad, really bad. So Cadence being Venus' mother is a secret that only a few knows about.

My absolute most critical suggestion of course is to *USE REFERENCES*. If you are unsure of how to draw something, try and find a picture of that something, or in that pose, etc. Tracing is bad, but using visual guides to help direct you to the end goal is very useful in getting a good sense of physical structure of what you're making. If an artists gets hurt when somebody tells him his proportions are off and tries to make excuses or takes it personally then yes i agree. But just getting nothing but insulting comments does more harm to the thread. I often feel people use the "not ur hugbox this iz FurCHIN!" excuse to be an ass at all times and say its justified. But thats just me, not my intent to cause shit or anything. I do want to see more artists around. Would be nice.

I meant this more as as long as some good criticism is received, all of the crap can be safely ignored by the artist in their quest to git gud. It can be useful in gauging the overall response to what's being drawn though.
