I've found out that some months ago Hasbro did a commercial for the Guardians of Harmony line, and they used a montage of different episodes, showing Rainbow joining the Wonderbolts.

For some reason, they never released an English version, and there are only Spanish and Polish versions, but I think that it's a nice montage and it was worth sharing.

I feel like Dash is the type to do leisurely activities on a whim rather than plan things out at the start of the season. She might have things that she wants to complete before certain timelines like camping with friends, etc. But overall I feel like she's fairly impulsive when it comes to daily activities.

However, I realize that this contrasts pretty harshly with her extreme drive and inner motivation that made her practice everyday, eat healthy, and as a result, succeed with her childhood dream. So in that light I'd see her setting goals like "Beat AJ in hoof wrestling", or "perfect trick X".

That episode shouldn't have happened. But if it had to it should've occurred later on in her Wonderbolt career. Typically new pilots don't get nicknames until they do something good/bad in combat or in a training excercise. She should've gotten her nickname during the first airshow or something that made it more meaningful. And the fact that it just so happened to be the same one her childhood tormentors used made me want to walk cubicle to cubicle in Hasbro headquarters with an AR-10, .308 caliber semi automatic rifle and purge those who thought it reasonable to torment my waifu. She worked so hard for her Wonderbolt slot, there is absolutely no reason that entire episode shouldn't have been a big circle jerk for Dash fans. But I better stop before I get angry again.

On another note one of the cutest things is Dash in her bomber jacket. In an operational squadron, you get your leather jacket after you give your first pre-flight brief in front of the squadron. It's really stressful and pretty much sets the tone for what people expect of you. This would've made for another good story or episode that the writers overlooked.

Honestly, the first time I watched the episode I hated it. It was the first episode ever that I didn't rewatch. Slowly, I kinda convinced myself that the episode couldn't possibly be as bad as I remembered it. I mean, that jacket convinced me. In Top Bolt, Rainbow wears proudly a bomber jacket with the name "Rainbow Crash" on it and she's happy, and I thought that if that was consequence of Newbie Dash, the episode necessarily was better than my first impression of it.

I rewatched it yesterday for the first time. I tried to be completely open-minded, and I tried to ignore that bad first impression I got almost one year ago. But the episode was fucking garbage. It was atrocious. The pacing was terrible, the humor was awful, the interactions were stupid. Everything was wrong. The Wonderbolts have no personality whatsoever. The mane 6 pretend to be worried, but they do nothing at all, because apparently they can only do something for Rainbow together when it's about punishing her. Pinkie, who was super excited in WA and couldn't stop checking the mailbox, here ignores Rainbow's first show just to serve as an excuse for an unfunny slapstick joke. The whole episode is just a bunch of random scenes put together by an idiotic writer who was hoping that a "good" moral would fix his total lack of talent.

Everything that I had used to convince myself that the episode wasn't that bad simply wasn't on the actual episode. All those "positive points" that I thought that the episode had weren't there, all of them were assumptions filling the gaps between this abomination and Top Bolt. In the context of Rainbow's arc, and seeing her development after this episode, Newbie Dash feels like they replaced a great episode with a pile of shit, and aired the pile of shit by accident. There isn't a single fucking thing on the episode that was well done.

I'm still happy for Rainbow's development, but now I hate this episode even more than after the first time that I watched it.

Think I forgot to post this here, so I'll do it now.

Currently about 21k words into a Dash fic for the slave pony thread. Despite the nature of that general, it's actually a fairly lighthearted and clean fic.

Brief summary:
>Title: Famous in Infamous Lands
>After spending almost four years (essentially the entire time since a dimensional rift brought her and millions of other ponies to earth) in the clutches of a strange, autistic, and inexplicably wealthy owner, Rainbow Dash has new life breathed into her with a new owner. Buster, a jolly solo musician from the Deep South, picks her up as a companion and accomplice and the two quickly form a strong friendship. But when opportunity begins to arise for athletic competition among ponies, Rainbow quickly finds that she's not been forgotten by former fans.

As of right now, the next update (today or tomorrow) will start to cover her first competition in this world.
