Alright, I'm conflicted. On one hand, I LOVE the idea of the castle being sapient and giving out artifacts to the mane six if they prove themselves worthy or if they need them.

On the other hand, this one is done horribly poorly and feels just forced; The inscription and crap about Bonbon and Lyra being needed to open it just feels like its coming out the writers ass, and the pooper scooper look is poor.
I mean, what the hell, FOSGIT, did a better job of making that armor look cool: Fosgitt.


Overall, I like the Shining armor, the pinkie and The rainbow dash comic. The last third kind of falls to pieces, like IDW was feeling rushed though.
The Wonderbolts one COULD have been good if it wasn't for Fosgit's art, as I like the jokes, but good god, is that art bad.


9/10 for the first 3 comics. 7/10 for Twilight's comic: Good premise, bad execution. 6/10 for the last 2 comics.

I'm guessing the pic related reference was lost on you. That was the mentor from one of the most recent Power Rangers and he passed out power-ups like it was fucking candy on Halloween whenever the rangers had '''''''earned'''''' them like, learning not to give up or about not giving up harder.

Point being that a magic tree that grants power ups on a whim for 'earning them' can be really ripe for abusable Deus Ex Machinas, especially if the 'trials' are as simplistic as they were in this comic. At least for the Rainbow Box it took them a whole season to open it up.

All plotlines were so forced and rushed just to introduce the toys. Same with characters. Like Cheese Sandwich had absolutely ZERO comedy in this comic, he could be replaced with anyone else but since he appeared in the toyline then he need to have few panels.

Fostgitt art was crap like usuall but other than some LyraBon shipping/pandering it has comepltely zero value az a story and only feels like 20 seconds commercial adventure to promote the toys. 0/10

Maybe it's not really the best comic to ask, given it's especially toyetic, but a few nit-picky questions did spring up as I was reading.

1. It mentions Princess Amore created the Crystal Heart. But the Journal of the Two Sisters says they found the Crystal Heart in the Crystalline Mountains. Is this a clash of canon or, was the heart just a rock until it was imbued with magic? If so why take it from a dragon's mountain and not just use another, less at-risk gem stone?

2. It says Princess Amore was the 'first' crystal princess. So she was the very first AND the very last before Sombra banished it to the future? There was no line before her? Shining also comments that her artifacts were made 2000 years ago. But the show mentions Sombra sealed away the Empire only a thousand years ago, not long after he shattered Amore. Did Amore live for over 1000 years? How did she do that if she's not an alicorn? Or was Shining Armor's 'two-thousand' line way off?

I was going to say it might have done the Zelda thing: that the Crystal Empire has several princesses baring the name Amore (this ties into Cadance as well, Mi Amore Cadenza) but the one Sombra shattered right before the empire went away 1000 years ago has the exact same cutie-mark as the 2000 year old one making all these artifacts. So, what's up?

3. The Wonderbolts, fastest fliers in all Equestria, mention it would take 'forever' or generally a good deal of time for them to reach the Crystal Empire at top speed, hence the need for the toys. But then Shining Armor says he 'ran' all the way from the Crystal Empire to Ponyville in what seems to be a very short amount of time... and Ponyville is farther away from the Empire than Canterlot (where the Wonderbolts were). Is Shining Armor that fast?
