Satyr Abomination Thread #200: Dad or /sad/ Edition

I posted this in /sad/ because there wasn't a thread. Consider this a late Valentine's.

In the middle of a cold night before Hearts and Hooves day, two Satyrs known as Utah Apple and Feather Heart under their masks, but known as Wild Stallion and Crimson Crow for most criminals and supervillains. Both of them are sit on a log from a tree long dead in the middle of nowhere. They both look at the dawn of a rising sun. Feather then looks at her partner in crime. How things have worked, he usually ended up wanting to get close to them while she would be right behind him, either shooting arrows or being the extra fist he needed.

The costume he wears is clearly damaged and exposes parts of his skin, revealing various cuts and bruises he received from the recent fight. The mask that hid his identity has been tattered enough to show that his right eye is green. Even with all his aches and bruises, he still carries on and acts like it’s an average night for him. At least he told Uncle Braeburn before. It would be near impossible to try to hide this one.

Utah notices that Feather was shivering a bit from how cold it is. His costume as a gift from Smith and Wesson keeps him warm. The poncho with his symbol is more just for show and for anyone to recognize that it’s him. It’s also because it’s a gift from his Aunt and Ma has always been part of his costume. He takes it off and hands it to her, telling her that he’ll be fine. She puts it over her costume more and tells him thank you.

“Rough night, huh? I thought we were dead to rights for a bit there” her friend asks her. He smirks a little, trying to lighten the situation. He looks at her, seeing that she had to take a toll in getting hurt herself. A few scratches went through her suit and bruises across her body. The “war paint” she uses to mask herself is clearly coming off.

“But like always, we somehow pull through and save the night. Who would’ve thought there would be a bigger bounty on us?” He rubs his shoulders, trying to feel better.

“Yeah,” was all Feather said to him. He thought it was a bit strange. Utah looks to Feather and sees something he didn’t expect. She looks a bit teary eyed. He doesn’t remember her crying. He honestly doesn’t know what to do. “Are ya alright?” Feather looks away and wipes her eyes, “I’m just fine.”

‘Maybe this is going to be a bad idea’ he thinks to himself, but Utah decides to pry a little more. “Ya sure? What happen-,” was all he could get out. She snaps at him and looking him straight into his eyes, tears becoming visible. “Why did you do that?! You almost got yourself killed!” This takes Utah back and surprises him quite a bit. He’s more confused than anything else. This is just a bit rougher than normal. Maybe he should try to justify himself. “What? One of them was coming right at you and my costume can take it. It’s not the first time I’ve done it. I couldn’t just let you get hit. Sure, it was a King Longhorn trying to rush us with sharpened horns, but I’m fine.” Feather continues to look at him almost angrily, “I can take care of myself you know.”

She looks away from her partner, looking down and one of her hands rubbing her eyes. “Just don’t try something that stupid again. I really thought you were going to…” Feather stops her sentence. Utah scoots closer to her and puts his arm over her shoulder. “I’ll try. Can’t really blame you. I didn’t expect as many either.” Utah would probably be a bit of an ass himself if she tried to do what he did.

What he didn’t expect was her wrapping her arms around him. When she did, it stings from all the bruises. He holds back from yelling and only grunts in pain. Feather hears his response telling him, “Sorry. It’s just that we’ve been doing this together for so long. I don’t think I would want to do this without you.” Utah just wraps his other arm around her to comfort her further.

“I think I love you, Utah,” she whispers. This comes off as a surprise. “Huh?” was all he could respond with. Sure, they’ve been doing this together and been through thick and thin, but he never thought she saw him like anything but a friend she can depend on. She lets go of him and look into his eyes once again. She yells at him, “I said I love you, you stupid stallion!” Feather noticed the eye that is visible widens. “I didn’t mean to snap at you like that. I just wanted to let that out.” Feather looks away from him and adjusts how she sit to where she can look at the crescent moon in the sky. “It’s a silly idea. We’re so different. The only thing that matches about us is that we work together. I’m not even sure how we could work.”

What Feather didn’t expect from what would have been considered awkward silence was Utah hugging her. Both wince in pain in bit. “Well, why don’t we try?” Utah asks her. “It’s not like it’s the first time we did something stupid together.” He finishes. She returns the hug.

“I love you, Utah.”

“I love you too, Feather”

Seeing as there's currently nothing to talk about in this thread, I'm still working on that homebrew setting for an OSR RPG I'm running. I want to have some satyr stand-ins for NPC characters, but I only can have up to seven of them for the start. If you want, you could roll for a satyr you'd think would be a good fit in the game along with their class. Odds determine whether they get in or not.

Don't know how much of the sheep stuff you caught, but the conversation so far was mostly that her dad ended up in some isolated, far flung sheep village, Think Gaelic country sides, wide rocky fields with foggy weather.
Small place where everyone is on a first name basic with everyone else, if not related by marriage to them. And they mostly get by on sustenance farming.

Big part of the reason Eirwyn's always sleeping is a lack of anything to do often times. She might have set out to see the world, but she's often in over her head, and very socially awkward due to said isolated upbringing.
