I'm actually kind of impressed by how economical the IBO HG line is. Barring the really egregious ones like the Rebake, they seem to accomplish pretty good color separation and detail despite how few pieces there actually are.

I noticed this too when I built the origin astaroth. I think it has something to do with the fact that a lot of the detail comes from the frame underneath, meaning that much of the armor is actually rather small and simple to let some of these details shine through more easily

been planning to get a new air compressor and air brush. the ones i have now (pic related) i got as gifts/second hand from friends. i knew these arent great, but i used them as practice. i would get the set recommended in the guide, but its 200$ + 100$ shipping in leafland. anyone recommend specific air compressor/brush, or should i just browse through iwata, badger, and master brands and see if they go on sale

What about that idea i posted a couple months back for a "Nobel GM"?

I'd combine a Nobel Gundam and an old HGUC GM to make a feminine looking GM, with modifications and scratchbuilding for parts like the chest, backpack, shoulders, skirts, knees, and feet to make it more like a GM.
The head and weapons would obviously be replaced with the ones from the GM

It'd be mostly Nobell Gundam but come on pls let me enter it if it just looks like a classic GM with different proportions

I'd argue that strictly defined rules aren't even necessary considering the voting is democratic anyway. If something clearly doesn't fit a GM build I doubt people would vote for it. This would also reduce people asking the same question regarding the fuzziness of the rules over and over again.
Besides, I don't see why a fully scratchbuilt model that clearly looks like a GM wouldn't fit.

Fair points, the restrictions made sense for the Graze build since I wanted the submissions to keep that Graze look but since there's so many different GMs it'd probably be fine with less restrictions.

I feel the need to keep it UC-only though, since while stuff like Daggers and Genoace fill the role of a GM for their respective timelines, they aren't true GMs.since it matches the look. Nothing's stoping you from making a Genoace-styled entry using a GM as a basis.

As someone who is starting painting, it's interesting how different the same color is with different base coat colors. Also found out pen nibs are great for panel lines and easy to clean up. Just need to remember that Vallejo's don't have smooth finishes.

Any ideas for the possible groupbuilds? For the rangebuild or GM build, I'm thinking of doing a Sniper II fielded by the Titans as a long range support unit during 0084-0085. The other idea I have, is for the stolen build, where Cima and her fleet survive Operation Stardust and continue using their Gelgoogs as part of the Titans before switching to newer suits or before they desert and become mercenaries again.

I'm of course, trying to keep everything simple and focus on my build quality and painting before I get crazy and start doing modifications.

Totally got carried away and rushed the paint here, so some bits need touching up.
Need to paint the little lance still too, and re cut the wing parts in clear or trans yellow, since neon yellow looks greenish.
Chest plate needs gluing on also, since thats just blue tacked on atm and a new face plate needs painting since thats just the stock Stylet one.

The whole thing is mostly Crossbone and Double X parts, with a few builders parts mixed in.
The head is a Crossbone head that I clipped the V-fin to make the separate antennas, sanded down the part for the eyes to make room for some reflective metallic circles I got from a dollar store for cameras, as well as to make room for the orange visor.
The visor I made out of the MG Turn X's clear orange beam runner. Clipped off a piece, sanded it don't to make it nice and thin, bent and warped it into shape, and drilled a small hole in the roof of the head for the visor to clip in to

The backpack is the Double X backpack with the main large thrusters being builders parts for submarine stuff that I just liked the shape of, with the Crossbone's backpack for the angled thrusters, and the Crossbone Maoh's skull fighter backpack thing for the smooth versions of the same angled thrusters to make it easy to paint onto

And there are a couple of holes drilled into the Double X backpack for two large power cables to connect to the beam sabers to justify the Gundam X style hyper sabers in a UC setting, with the cables themselves just being dollar store headphone cables cut to length

I was planning on just using the Double X's side skirts initially, but the beam sabers put into the side skirts from the bottom, and that's where the cables are attached

I also have a few smaller things I made to attach the beam sabers to the side skirt out of a runners and cut up paper clips that just pug into the side skirts, you can see them on the far right in my last image, but with those the beam sabers end up spinning around on it a bit too much.

I agree that the current beam saber holsters are a bit too clunky though, this is just kind of a work around until I come up with something better for them

Also I used an airbrush and 3 or 4 colors to make the fade. It's part of my "never panel line with black" rule, so I got creative

So now I'm torn on which way to take the legs. The one on the right is how I originally modified it, but the one with the red (which I'll paint) keeps the original Viadar foot while also carrying the Kimaris curvy theme, plus it fits right into place on the Vidar's leg once the pegs inside are cut
