I fucking loved this ep, Chris definitely got plenty of action and getting shit done in the opening sequence even if she didn't get more than one explicitly named attacks. Considering Chris is going to wind up with plenty of focus this season thanks to the arc they're already getting at I wouldn't worry about her end, even if some of it will be suffering. They always try to break up what characters get focus between episodes to keep it relatively even.

Sorta, development used to be a bit more natural.
In G, it is true that around monochrome everyone was doing relatively fine and Chris stole the spotlight, but that is because shit hadn't hit the fan yet. After the relic cancer was discovered, they sort of used it to make all of the characters tense and get mileage out of that.
Tsubasa and Chris didn't interact all that much in S1 and Tsubasa played the smallest part in converting Chris, so it makes sense they didn't get along well by then.
Then, Tsubasa was stressed out because of Hibiki and closed herself off while Chris, who has problems relating to people, tried to reach in and got rejected.
It was a clever move because we get subtle hints throughout G that Chris and Hibiki are actually pretty good friends. They have great chemistry in episode 1 and we have a scenes like Chris getting angry at her for trying to run into action and then fixing her tie. This way, it is clear to the viewer that, as shy as Chris was, her relationship with Tsubasa wasn't like that just because of it, but also because they hadn't connected yet. Which I just realized is probably why Chris and Hibiki fought by themselves in G01: it's a great way to establish Chris and Hibiki get along and it avoided them having to pull something cheap like:
>Oh, Chris and Tsubasa just started talking and they really clicked with each other, they are great buds now.
S1 was even better at that. While Hibiki was out bonding with Tsubasa, fighting or making up with Miku, or Tsubasa was learning to accept Hibiki as the new gungnir, Chris was out having her own scenes that established her as a good natured person on the wrong side and made her more sympathetic to us.
GX was the first time we got this discretization of development through episodes

Not a full summary, but I could figure out a bit of the story using my limited ability to read moonrunes. It's incomplete, possibly wrong, and likely out of order, but here's what I have:
