***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31

Should start taking pictures outside more odten when i want to show completed work. Anyways had fun building these. The GM Sniper II is pure sex, now i feel like i actually want to get the White Dingo.

Unless you want the recently released HGCC Turn A you'll be heavily modding the 90s hg if you want something decent.
>>
>>15648384
The Flat is actually not bad for it's age. Good color separation, I also think the 1/100 sumo is a good kit as well.
>>
>>15648390
Another question, do these MSV kits require glueing or cementing? Certainly seems that way.

Shameless repost from last thread,

Also if people here who paint with acrylics are ever thinking of getting the Vallejo metal color line, DO IT!

Seriously, those paints are insanely great metalic paints and they are acrylic.

You need to cement the old 80s kits. Sometimes they give you a tiny tiny tube of shitty 1980s glue in a 1 inch tin toothpaste styled tube.

I'm still trying to finish my Gelgoog before I can move on to painting other projects. I have most of the inner frame painted. Right now I hit the thrusters with some Vallejo brass and chainmail silver for the thruster bells. I'll probably try hitting those again with a second coat.

>Vallejo metal color line
I've been eying them for a while now. Having never used lacquer/enamel, what's so great about them? Is it just really good color for being acrylic?
>>
>>15648390
All gundam model kits up till F91 Gundam gunpla (1991) need glue and paint
>>
>>15648504
The particles are extremely fine and that makes them look A LOT less grainy. Also the colors are really sharp and refelctive. They actually look metal like.
>>

I'm probably going to buy some anyway, though, I think it'll be perfect for an upcoming project.

They are handbrushable in smaller areas, airbrushable (Although they may spray a little funny they level off just fine), and extremely smooth, almost as much as alclad (But not quite). The metal varnish they recommend seems to just be their regular gloss varnish rebottled though when I tested it out. Literally the only thing I didn't like about them is the cap design for the bottle. Here is their steel and aluminum airbrushed onto a frame.
>>
>>15648504

For being acrylics, they are fantastic.

>>15648663

I literally can't close a bottle without a drop of paint flying somewhere...

Do you use their primer or some other way of getting a gloss black base? I don't really like their primer much, I do need to use a normal lacquer primer as well if I am to correct flaws by sanding.
>>
>>15648672
I used mr.color gloss black as a base over airbrushed tamiya grey primer. Recently picked up a bottle of super gine black mr. Surfacer though so I'm going to try that as a one step primer + black basecoat on my next kit.

I'm overall not a fan of vallejo primers.
>>
>>15648663
I would love the graze if not for those fucking feet. They make it look like a high power executive lady in a pantsuit
>>
>>15648695

Mr surfacer 1500? I haven't actually used vallejo metal color line over it, but I have with the AK xtreme metal line and that kind of metallic paint comes out looking rather dull on it, and certainly still needs the gloss base. On my current project I almost regret the gloss as it ended up too shiny and not gritty enough though.

I think acrylic paint might be different since it's not just metallic flakes in a solvent, but I'd be prepared to still use something for the gloss.

Personally I'm not sure what the best way of getting a gloss black lacquer base is, I have been using the black surfacer 1500 + the mr color gloss clear but using normal grey primer and their gloss black paint might be more economical. Mr surfacer 1500 is quite a bit more expensive than mr surfacer 1200, after all.

Though I would use more normal paint instead as the primer wouldn't be black, so I don't know. All I know is that I like mr color with leveling thinner for getting glossy looks.
>>
>>15648663
>>15648672
Looks good, have you tried a gloss coat on it?

I'm concerned about durability, however. I screwed up the paint in multiple places on my melee groupbuild entry because I'm a noob, I guess.

>I have a few that I'd like to replace instead of whipping out superglue or something.
You realize replacing the parts will cost you more in the end than just using glue/cement, don't you?
>>
>>15649111
Yes, but considering the parts' structure I wouldn't have minded. Superglue will have to do, even if the part is likely to break again.
>>
So I painted with Vallejo model color my kit and when I try to apply Vallejo wash as a panel liner the color doesnt "run".
Should I apply the clear coat and then do the panel lyning? Or should I use tamiya panel liner enamel?
If it changes anything I used tamiya white primer and applied fue Vallejo acrilics by brush.

Thanks

I detailed up a Converge Zeta Plus for my car dashboard.

Things I did:
- Add black to the inside of the vents on the head, torso, and legs

- Some general panel lining on the torso and shield

- Added a different shade of grey to some panels on the shield legs, and chest.

- Colored the head with metallic blue

Eye and camera glow was done in Photoshop because it looks cooler.

I always liked the Zeta Plus, it's a real shame that the MG is some 15 years old and the HG doesn't have the big fuck off gun. At least there's the spiritual successor in the Delta Plus.

How are either kits anyways? The MG is old enough to the point where it's probably dirt cheap and the color schemes likely make both good practice for painting.

If you're just going to panel line, you don't need an ultra high gloss and can just do like three barely wet coats. If you want an actual high gloss you're going to need to get a wet coat, which means lowering the pressure and working a little slower and closer to the piece.

Also, if you're not using the vallejo flow improver you really should, as it makes vallejo a lot nicer to spray in general and it also contains retarder which helps you get a wet coat.

I really do prefer mr color with leveling thinner for easy high gloss though, works a lot better than vallejo for me.

for Wing fans, it is considered a classic, there are no modern kit of that model. If you're a fan, build it, otherwise just sell it and buy a more modern 144 hg which has far less issues.

>'m thinking about getting a Hi-Mock and some pink spray paint, and then testing that out.
Just get a while plastic spoons. they are very cheap, easy to buy and plenty enough to test and practice painting

Anyway I'll give it a shot, thanks!
>>

>but an official kit may be just beyond the horizon.

And how long have people been saying exactly that? Banking on bandai creating a kit of a new design is wishful thinking and expectations, going back and creating a kit of a design over a decade old is just ridiculous. Hazel I can get since they are reusing the mk2 frame but woundwart would require so much more work for a negligible return on investment, and for what? It's a niche series with a smattering of fans, it's like people asking for a xi gundam kit. It's far too obscure to justify its creation.

And if it does I'll likely buy it but as they say, first come first served. If anything I'd say that like providence and hazel, the third party kit is pretty much the only thing that would spur bandai into making an mg or hg woundwart since they're able to gauge fan interest from the third party.

Well of what you can see, in the foreground stacks I have the Freedom 2.0 and Hyaku shiki 2.0 built and did some painting. In the background i have at least snapped up the Unicorn, Efreet Schneid, Rebawoo, Zeta 2.0, GM Sniper II and the Z'Gok, currently snapping Banshee.

Moving in September, so a few orders still trickling in but I've really slowed down my building and have all but halted painting, except for a few bits here and there, like I will probably paint the gold on the mg Banshee to something less awful.

I think it's the collector's mentality. I started collecting vinyl records as a hobby early last year, and occasionally I have to stop myself from buying a record from a band I like or if it has some kind of limited, rare colored version simply because I just want it and can't justify the purchase otherwise.

Gunpla is the same kind of deal, too. I want to buy the new Justice MG, but I bought and built the Providence MG last month. But I want the Justice. At the same time, I want the P-Bandai MG Advanced GN-X coming out next month. Its an endless cycle of "wants, but not needs" that gets you trapped in it. At one point, you just want, without the feeling or need to build. And so you keep adding, and adding, without any fulfillment. Throwing plastic into an empty hole of desire.
>>
>>15652851

Also comes with the premium Providence, but with an exclusive ZAFT base instead.
Bandai have yet to sell this new AB1 on it's own.

The orange paint looks just a liiiiittle bit thick on these pictures, but it could just be dust and dirt specks that got on there before the final coat making the surface look uneven. Regardless, nice job. Is this the HG or the 1/100?
>>
>>15653120
>>15653123
Not bad, Anon.
>>
>>15653657
Fortunately (or onfortunately?) it's indeed just dust/pollen clinging to the moddel becasue the top coat is still a little sticky. Also since this picture is take with my phone the general iamge quality is much more grainy and this makes the surface look textured on brighter colors.

Right now it's really bad where I live so no matter what I do or where I go there will be dust/pollen. (I've been able to brush of most of it for now).

It's the HG Vidar and honestly I'm actually quite happy about how it's turning out. I wanted to paint it, but couldn't think of a decent color sheme and then I remembered the colors of the Royal Dutch Airforce demo planes.

The scheme is called "parade colors." or at least I've read that and choose to believe it. It's meant to make the suit stand out to top brass during military parades and exhibitions so they'll ogle and order thousands.

It's the king of color schemes right up there with Char's salmon/maroon/midnight blue combo; no matter what suit you put it on, everyone instantly "gets it."

the fuminas(and other girls) are pretty much it
they really just need to improve the face execution

and if they improve the joints, which are uglier and has less articulation than the koto kits imo
and push forward with the idea of armor/parts compatibility with other kits like the star winning fumina has,
then bandai will be poised to wrest the top position from koto
they already beat them handily price wise

Well it depends on how you view things.

I wanted the RX-78-2 3.0 for Christmas, so my dad bought it for me in November, but I didn't build it until December.

In the interim I bought the Nu ver. Ka as I had some extra money from my relatives.

In either case, I chose both of them due to their lengthy build processes.

Jesta. Sexy grunt suit that's a solid fun build. You don't understand the visual complexity of the leg design until you actually build it.Also the gun design is probably my favorite with how tacticool it is. Also the blue isn't as light as it appears in most pictures, it's pretty fucking dark.

Probably part of the "all RGs are grenades" meme, but as someone who loves their RG Z'Gok the elbow guard can easily fall off. Also, probably because I'm paranoid, I'm always worried that the joints are going to break when doing things like putting it in a handstand.
