She wasn't terrible, but she suffers from the same things that a lot of sentai girls do if they're not given a specific quirk: she's just there and a girl. They're usually genki enough but aside from the couple focus episodes they get that's about it. I didn't dislike or hate her or anything like that. Luka just stands out more and got more facetime the same way Kasumi largely overshadowed Fuuka.

You're comparing the limited edition Blu-ray to the standard edition DVD. This screenshot is missing the standard Blu-ray, which I got for 4k yen but may be slightly higher now. The limited DVD is more than that (5170 in that image).

Not that I disagree that Japanese discs are expensive, but the difference between DVDs and BDs is usually not that big for a single movie. It's the collectors editions with various bonuses where they gouge you especially hard.

Incidentally, only the BDs for Zyuoh Returns come with audio commentary, so you do get something more than HD for the price increase.

Yeah, the standard Blu-ray is in the fourth or fifth row. Original MSRP on it is ￥5940 while the DVD on its own is ￥4860 without their sales. That's my bad, I thought those were the only choices. Either way I'm not a fan of how expensive these things get to be when it comes to Japan. Even a full season collector's edition BD of a show that's several seasons long in the States is barely reaching $150 unless it's absolutely massive filled with loads of stuff on top of the show and bonus content, but that's just the entry cost for some DVD collections of Sentai/Rider even if it's fairly recent.

It's absolute highway robbery. I get that it's because of doing a low production run because the demand isn't as high and they have to make up the costs, but man is it such a steep moneypit and you don't even get the entire season. It's sort of a cliched answer, but everything that is a luxury is more expensive in Japan. Blu-rays for regular Hollywood movies like Marvel and shit also regularly cost ¥2000-¥3000 more here, and you'll pay double for lots of electronics like computer accessories or headphones. They're not more expensive specifically because it's niche, they're more expensive because it's Japan and the Japanese are willing to pay. They can and do jack the price even higher for otaku, but everyone is already paying crazy prices for everything else as well.

She's generally a more reserved and passive character but that's not what bland is.

Luka just stands out more and got more facetime the same way Kasumi largely overshadowed Fuuka.
Luka was more active but had less personality. Little to do with kasumi and fuuka because fuuka was more active(despite not getting focus episodes) and kasumi is also the bettee character.

the superpower kyutama have been pretty shitty. not only do they not do anything but there's too many of them.

I really like the henshin kyutama. They've actually done a lot to help make the mecha part of the show more. Like how they form a miniship to attach to their individual mecha instead of just jumping in, and they give them actual cockpits instead of a void. it's a pretty nice toy gimmick that adds to the show. shame about all those extra kyutama, though.

Known for playing Tezuka Kunimitsu in The Prince of Tennis musical series (Tenimyu), Keisuke Minami will join the cast of Uchu Sentai Kyuranger this July as Ho-Oh Soldier. After having auditioned for a role in another Super Sentai show ten years ago, Minami will finally have his debut in Kyuranger episode 21.

When the mysterious Tsurugi Ohtori is awakened after a long sleep, he will encounter and fight the Kyurangers as Ho-Oh Soldier. Believing the Kyurangers are evil, Tsurugi seeks to save the universe. Ho-Oh Soldier’s design and sword-fighting style are inspired by the phoenix.

Minami spoke about achieving his dream to play a role in the Super Sentai series. “My one dream has come true. Because I failed the audition 10 years ago, the Super Sentai series has been an impossible love, like an unforgettable partner. (laughs)” Minami also mentioned the impression he wants to leave behind. “Tsurugi is a character with interesting habits. It would make me very happy to be the sort of hero children want to imitate. I really look forward to the day I hear those words from kids on the streets.”

Ho-Oh Soldier’s debut appearance in Uchu Sentai Kyuranger episode 21 will air in Japan on July 9th.

Episode 20 "Stinger VS Scorpio" (Airing 7/2)

Stinger has thrown his life away in order to challenge his brother. Meanwhile, Scorpio begins a plot against the Kyuranger, stealing the Ryukotsu KyuTama. To get it back,
and take down Scorpio, Stinger utilizes the "Antares" technique, which increases one's combat strength by injecting themselves with poison.

As the Kyurangers appear, Scorpio kidnaps Stinger...

Meanwhile, the Moraimarz fleet nears Earth.

Lucky and the others face Scorpio in battle. Lucky is able to meet with Stinger, and together with Kotaro, they attempt to get back the Tomo KyuTama from Scorpio.

I just kind of want them to do something with Spada. Of the 11 of them, he's the only one who hasn't really gotten a chance to shine at all, except when he was a hothead for half an episode. And when was the last time Hammy laughed at anything? That was her thing for a while.

Kyoryuger worked really well despite its relatively large team so I think if Kyu had a regular 6 ranger team with the rest being extras, it would be easier, especially knowing that we've still got another new character coming up. I think putting Champ out of commission for a while and sending Kotaro back to base helps a little bit, though.

That being said, I'm enjoying Kyuranger and I actually think it's more fun than ZyuOh. They're really taking advantage of the space theme. I was worried for a while that they were just going to stay on Earth all the time.

Also worth noting, this new schedule starts on the same day of the first episode of the next KR.
So, since a lot of people will be checking out the new KR, that will probably boost Sentai ratings for the first weeks of the new schedule.

The problem isn't the shift in who goes first and who goes second. The problem is that Sentai is now competing against One Piece, an anime that despite being SO FUCKING UGLY, CHEAP, AND UNENJOYABLE TO WATCH, has maintained it's devoted userbase and their slot in the top 10.

Kamen Rider has to fight against Dragonball Super, but that show in itself we have no idea how long it'll last before it collapses, since the Japanese aren't being as tolerant with shitbudget and animation as they are with One Piece.
