So i just watched this and
WOW, you can super duper tell this is a series smashed into a two hour run time.
what does /m/ think of Gundam F91?
>>
like your not told ANYTHING about the Crossbone Vanguard aside from the leaders vague motivation and character motivations come and go at a break neck pace
i mean i liked it, but woo it was hard to follow at times.

I liked the mobile suits a lot and saw a low of potential in it. I think it would have been great if it was a 40-50 episode series. But now it's just a good looking shallow/bland mess with cool suits.

I think that instant bans should come back for people that fail a sensitivity test (mentioning they're from Reddit, Animesuki, MAL, etc)

F91 is my favorite UC suit
Shame the movie really really shows how rushed the whole thing was, but I think I could have gone without episodes of Seabook and Cecily angst
>>
It's really good

I've watched it 16 times

I really like it, if it was a series as planned, it might have been one of my favorites. Also, I love the F91 so much.

Hell, even half that long and it could have been something good.
>>
>>15596972
It's a disappointing movie with some of the coolest mechanical designs in the franchise.

We'll lose the sick animation if this was a series

I wouldn't, stories don't matter only visuals for animation.

If ZZ Gundam looked as good as F91 I would still be mad that the guys who betray everyone three times get the best Z suits, they grab ZZ's core fighter with the second best pilot to use it as a meat shield because she was bitchy and blame her, take ten episodes to present a real challenge, make the main villain go cry in her room when the MC screams at her halfway through the show and nothing happens in over half the episodes.

Animation is great, but it needs a story or you could just watch 7 music videos weekly for 4 to 12 months.
>>
>>15599086
I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist anymore.
>>
>>15599209

>>15599258
Animation is just a tool, a mean to tell a story
If all you do is fancy looking things happening on screen and nothing else it gets boring after a while
>>
>>15599278
I agree on Captain Earth and G Reco but Break Blade is incredibly boring visually.
>>
>>15599296
That's all I do and anime hasn't gotten boring yet.
>>
>>15596972
It's pretty and has amazing grunt designs (fuck gundams and muh speshul prototypes). Other than that, it's starts off strong and quickly turns into a trainwreck
>>
>>15596972
Great MS, great opening scene, so happy to see something besides Feds vs Zeeks, shame is was butchered into a single movie. Crossbone was enjoyable though.
>>
>>15599300
Care to elaborate? What have you been watching?
>>
>>15599258
That part of the sentence was tied to "otherwise you should be watching cool music clips and openings and leave it at that" Sentences can have more than one clause.
>>
>>15599366
Doesn't change the fact that it's just your opinion and not an objective truth.
>>
>>15599381
It's an argument. I'm presenting an idea to be accepted or rejected. You can keep saying "it's no an objective truth" which is pretty much "maybe but eh..." Which is ok, you're not saying anything tho.

>>15599330
Best scene in the whole movie
>>
>>15599390
What's there to say? Animation and visuals can be enjoyed without a story and limiting yourself just to music clips and openings would be really boring.
>>
>>15599398
I had forgotten where the gif had come from, so as soon as the shot started I laughed like a maniac.
>>
>>15599401
Why would it be boring?
Why would it be worse than an actively bad story with the same level of animation as an OP?
>>
>>15599407
Because there's not as much of them as there are tv series and everything else. If you only watched short clips there would be nothing left to watch after a while.
>>
It's a good movie. Literally the only complaint is that it feels rushed because it was originally planned to be a series, but it stands up on its own if you weren't aware of that
>>
>>15599407
Because you only get a minute of it.
>>
>>15599402
The scene were one of Seabooks friends flies off and dies by hitting a wall was also good
That whole sequence in that city was great
>>
>>15599343
All sorts of anime. Can't really elaborate further.
>>
>>15599417
That's like saying you eat rocks because there's a limited amount of apples. You can do something besides watching mech shows you don't like.

>>15599412
But if animation is all you want the 5 to 20 minutes of faces explaining the plot and having arcs per episode are the same as watching the water until it boils to make some pasta. You could be doing something you enjoy or at least doesn't bore you.
>>
>>15599419
It felt like the only scene with civilians, like, from then on it's all characters that last multiple scenes or almost static crowd shots.
>>
>>15599419
I agree. The civilian POV gave it a great sense of scale that's usually lacking in Gundam and mecha anime in general. It was the most memorable part in the movie.
>>
>>15599439
Civilian point of view is one of the things they cut the most in the 0079 movies. It's usually considered not as important as the plot beats and that sucks.
>>
>>15596972
It retells the same old story premises as we've seen in other Gundam shows. No point in trying to stretch it out to a fulll series.
>>
I made a similar thread months back. I was extremely saddened at how much I didn't understand because the setting was really interesting. The animation is gorgeous, the mobile suits are sexy and deserve new MG kits, and the battles were great. As it stands though, it's only a 6 out of 10 on my book.
>>
>>15599439
Up until they leave the colony, the movie is extremely good. It's only after that where pacing goes bonkers and scene transitions start making less sense.
>>
People really liked it for WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN but holy fuck I just wish they just turned it into a movie rather than feeling like a thrown together compilation film.
>>
>>15600140
>Up until they leave the colony, the movie is extremely good.
This is pretty much how I feel about it. Still, it's a 9/10 in my books.
>>
>>15596972
I loved it. Amazing animation, suit designs, good characters, and a setting full of potential.
>>
>>15599430
Even though animation is basically all I want, I don't have anything against storytelling. There are also a lot of visual things you can pay attention to during the parts where characters mostly talk such as layouts, camera angles and character designs.

What did they mean by this?
>>
>>15601221
F91 is just a sidestory of a bigger thing, the Formula Project.
>>
The movie is pretty strong at the start when everything's moving at a consistent pace, but yeah, once they leave the colony it just becomes some highlight scenes of a hypothetical anime. Really would've helped if there were say a few "a few weeks later" just to give a better grasp of the passage of time for those bits.
>>
>>15601269
yeah everyone a character motivation changed suddenly or a new plot point happened without warning i thought i had missed something
>>
>>15596972
I didn't mind it at all. I would have preferred that it be reworked into a more cohesive movie than expanded into a full anime, but it's one of my favorite entries anyway, simply because it avoids a lot of the parts of Gundam I dislike.
>>
Just go straight to F92 with new story as planned. There is no need to follow up with F91, the reinforce test type.

The F91 is one of the most well-designed incarnations of the Gundam, I don't think there's anyone who'd say they disliked it.

Honestly, I don't see any reason why they couldn't make a series that took place after or prior to the film. I'm sure they could make an interesting story, but I guess the problem would be getting general audiences and execs interested in such a project.
>>
>>15599398
I like seeing the collateral damage caused by mobile suits, like this. I remember a scene like this in War in the Pocket where a spent casing embeds into a car windscreen. One of my favorite aspects of the MSG series is the fact that it puts a spotlight on how fucking horrible giant robots in real life would actually be.

Minovsky particles can't blind the bugs if there aren't any particles to blind them

Crossbone Vanguard has control and superiority over the Frontier colony area, they haven't had a reason to spread particles over their own territory and base of operations
>>
>>15596972
I would like to see some sort of small dedicated remake of F91. Something like a 5-6 episode 1 hour per episode series done to the same quality of animation and music as the unicorn ova.
>>
>>15613297
That's a massive, time-consuming, and expensive production project just to "remake" something that didn't result in many sales back then. It can't really even be called a remake as much as it is a whole new interpretation and expansion of F91. F91 doesn't even have that much material, a good 80% of it would have to be new or cribbed from old unused/cut details and notes.
>>
>>15613037
If you can do heat detection for a whole city then you could just have missiles that are more practical than giant robots. The Gundam universe is barely kept together by the idea that accuracy beyond a couple of kilometers isn't possible.
>>
>>15613048
Minovsky particles are a subproduct of the scifi engines that barely need refulling, they are also used as catlysts for beam weapons. If a ship was around in the last hour you can barely use cameras, in a lot of big fights in 0079 and Z they point this out, I think in Victory they have a ship loosing most sensors just because four suits are fighting.
There is also a smoke bomb use, but it's basically using your exhust pipe to blind another car.
>>
I liked nearly all of it but the end just devolves into

*Whirling intensifies*

Like Jesus they used the shit out of that sound effect, even though the fights were great. How they revisit it someday.

I like the idea of Cosmo Babylonia and it was interesting to see just how far the Federation had degraded since Char's Counterattack.

The Rafflesia and the Bug bit weapons were also an interesting take on mobile suit technology, as was mobile suits being miniaturized and beam shields being a thing.

I just wished Cosmo Babylonia had lasted longer. I don't they also tell whatever happened to Dorel Ronah.

Also, anyone know what the music in this video is called?
