***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

anything in the mail /gpg/ ?

A question /gpg/.
Is it just me or are non-UC kits cheaper compared to UC ones?
At the store I usually by from, non-UC kits tend to be at least 20% cheaper.

Man I really regret buying my Marasai. Only bought it because the Geara Doga was out of stock and I had this need to build a kit. Dont even want my Marasai

Is the Unicorn version any different?

It ain't dead.

I'm just a depressed little bitch that's upset he ruined his first paintjob.

I just need to take pictures once the sun comes up and submit them.

Also, someone used my image as the header. Oh gosh.
>>
>>15574754
What's wrong with it? I've been eyeballing the MG.
>>
Have you guys heard of fake kits? Apparently a google review said my local animu store (Too Cool in the gurnee area in case the world is really small) said they got a fake SOA model kit from there. This concerns me.

https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=Too+cool+gurnee&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#q=Gurnee+Mills&ludocid=9694141057953546391&lrd=0x880f8e3c7c565d6b:0x868881ee31d9c097,1,

Suddenly not so afraid of painting it, I can even assemble it fairly transformed in order to minimize the risks of paint getting damaged.
>>
>>15574751
Might just be the store you're getting it from, but keep in mind that older kits are generally cheaper and that some kits will have more parts in them than others.
>>
>>15574813
Sonny there is no end to bootlegs, there are bootleg model kits, bootleg figures, bootleg trading figures, the whole shebang from bootleg Dakis to bootleg phone charms.
The problem that I have with this business practice, is that generally they're just trying to turn the biggest profit.
If you buy a bootleg product at a bootleg price, no harm no foul you get what you paid for. Most stores like this will just rip people off.
>>
>>15574839
I just can't believe there's a brick and mortar store like this. I've bought an HGUC kit or two from them, but apparently the store has opened and closed multiple times and owners have changed.

It's such a damn shame, I enjoyed not having to wait on shipping :(

Guess I'm off to gundam planet...
>>
>>15574840
Store owners are generally who decide what to stock and from who, so if there's new management that's who to blame.
>>
For someone who is not into painting, are PG fine out of the box ? I want to finalize my kits by getting a PG RX-78 (I would prefer the zaku but I already own a MG), and it already looks time-consuming in building it.
Is it a good kit ? Does it need anything more (or less) than a MG would need ?
>>
>>15574866
Yes, and it takes longer.
>>
Just finished building my MG Red Frame Kai.
It was a fun build but I really hate the fact that the arms and legs polycaps have literally no friction at all, making the limbs to just slide and fall off. I don't really like using glue but it feels like I will have to.
>>
>>15574813
>Have you guys heard of fake kits?
Wow. How much of an underaged newfag ARE YOU?? Were you born yesterday?? People have been faking almost everything they possibly can in the world and you're surprised there are fake model kits??

It's like hearing a little kid just discovered that girls and boys have different peepees.

Literal children aren't allowed on 4chan y'know.

>>15574840
>I just can't believe there's a brick and mortar store like this.
>he can't believe that there are stores that sell bootlegs and fakes
WTF. I bet if someone sold you water and told you it was concentrated pure cancer-healing vitamin water, you'd shove money down their throats in absolute gullible belief.

This has to be some kind of amazing bait because somebody can't be this stupid AND naive. Did you even TRY asking the store people if what you wanted to buy was genuine BEFORE actually buying it?
>>
>>15574913
>>15574907
You think I was dumb enough to buy a fake kit? Most people can't get successful enough to own and operate a brick and mortar store by being that overtly dishonest.

Also with handbags and cologne, you usually are paying knock off prices, this is not the case with the Too Cool store.

Don't act like stores are selling fake everything.

It's more like fake kit at a store. A trade show, convention, flea market? I expect fakes, predatory pricing, ect.

I just don't expect fakes at a brick and mortar store that is trying to sell them as the real thing. Like people WILL find out, and they can physically find you. You know?

What do I need in order to buff/sand things to get them really glossy? How fine sandpaper?

>>
>>15575240

Not too sure if you're actually looking for an answer but here's my experience with Gunpla in Taiwan:

A lot of time, they'll have spelling errors or different names(both intentional and unintentional) on the frame's name but this only works in convention or when you can see the physical item. They'll also be missing Bandai's logo, looking for bluefin's logo might not be as reliable because some Bandai's kit doesn't have bluefin's logo. (Some bootlegger will have the red Bandai's logo, but the name will be different, Daban Model as opposed to Bandai)

Another thing to do is to check the seller's location if you're buying online. China / HongKong / Taiwan based seller has a higher tendency to be fake, go for Japan based seller or a trusted name if you're looking for online seller.

Both the Cold Districts and Command kits can be decent looking when work is put into them. Both have nasty seams on the arms and legs and have rather big hands. The Cold Districts is a struggle to pose with its unique "sten" looking machine gun. Some option hands can rectify that, or a spare 90mm gun if you have one from a Sniper II or C type.

Best thing I can say is, they're worth getting for how relatively inexpensive they are and you want to practice seam welding and such.
>>
>>15575694
That sounds like it'd work. I'd thought of using some sort of clear plastic to make the rings. I've seen one guy that used stiff paper and used sticky tack to fasten it.

I didn't consider buying mr color gloss black for some reason, so I had to make do with the surfacer 1500 and then gloss coating it, but I could probably have done the same with the gloss black.

I had issues getting a decent finish until I turned down the pressure to ~15 psi or so and held the spoon a bit further away, I sprayed a wet coat and the coat looked wavy for a moment and then self leveled to a pretty smooth looking gloss over at least most of the spoon.

Not 100% perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than I was doing before, and it felt like it took no effort. Mr leveling thinner seems to contain some level of magic.

Excuse the slight pollution in the black, I found out that it takes more than I thought to flush out all of the metallic particles from lacquer metallic paint.

Well you will need to paint the eyes/face first. Then you mask it off, do the seam welding (I recommend Tamiya and Tamiya Extra Thin) then prime and paint that.

I think that anon was saying the HG Cold Districts doesn't have a stomach. Which it doesn't btw.

Also thanks to the blocky short torso, it makes the arms look too thin and gangly. And if I recall correctly, it can't properly kneel either because of it's uneven legs and outdated design.

Just bought my first RG kit(pictured) and I have one question.

Do I build the rubber frame first? Or do I build it section by section? The pictorials aren't "clicking" for me.
>>
>>15576531
Mineshima D-25.

Doesn't break the bank or your waiting time like the memehands nippers, but the thin blade and its reach for narrow spots in runners helps lots. Not quite the memehands, but it gets you close enough. It's pretty much a "diet coke version" that isn't that bad.

If Bluefin had the wisdom to open a Canadian operation, it would drastically lower gunpla prices to be competitive with the US prices and/or Japanese retails at best.

Instead, Canadian importation raises prices to 300 to 400% because it has to be shipped from Japan to US then US to Canada.

Now, an IBO kit that would kinda be the price of a pizza slice + coke or a burger combo is now the price of a movie ticket, or a half pound of Alaskan King Crab legs!

What does derringer think of this? Has it ever been brought up?

>>
>>15576975
Son, You need to get more than one grit. Roughish then medium then finer. Even if you're going cheap and dirty about it you're gonna have to go somewhere like 600 grit > 800 grit > 1000/1200, with skipping too many grits not recommended.

Literally any brick and mortar storefronts? Or an automotive shop near you?

Do you think it would be good to stick with the SDs because I remember reading they were easier to put together or do you guys have any HG's that good to get into? What series it is doesn't really matter, as long as it's simple enough that it won't cause any problems putting it together for a not so great builder right now.

WTF kind of kit is it? If it's like, really old, like the Geminass/Griepes I can understand but modern kits don't do that anymore...
>>
>>15577463
My only complaint with the RG RX-78-2 is the skirt parts keep fucking popping out and the core fighter's "thruster" parts became loose after a whie so everytime I'd disassmble the torso to take out the core fighter it would leave the loose piece behind stuck in the torso. Which is a pain in the ass to take out.
>>
>>15577648
Fuck that thing for not transforming. The entire point of the Woundwort was that it was sexy looking as an MS and sleek looking in it's MA Drone form.

I've seen the early reviews too. It's absolute shit when they tried to transform it. Like the old HG Zeta, it left an entire giant torso and the ass part that's supposed to be the MA nosecone just juts out barely able to fit between the legs.

I mean wtf kind of 1/100 is a torsoformer... They should've just made it a HG.

You can only order p-bandai from bandai themselves if you have a shipping address in that country. NA has a p-bandai store now but it's extremely limited compared to HK or JP; to get the other kits, you'd need to buy from a middleman service which usually hikes up the prices.

I use anything from pencils to fountain pens to Gundam Markers, depending on the surface. I don't think that the marker type really helps, just the amount you put on. If you want to clean off excess after you've lined try using a cloth and some cleaning alcohol/ethanol/whatever.

Worked on weathering my y-wing now that the satin coat has had a few days to settle. I haven't done any weathering stuff in like a year so I was a little rusty and went a little heavier on the chipping than I originally wanted, but tried to keep most of it towards the front and front facing parts of the model.

What do you guys think, too much? Too sloppy?

1/144 or 1/100? Newest HG Zeta is great and probably the best option at 1/144, but has a bunch of stickers. RG Zeta looks the best but is fragile as hell, keep it in one mode and never touch it again. Don't bother with the OG HG Zeta unless you want the chrome plated version or something.
