**MELEE GROUP BUILD**

Build/paint a robot with a loadout focused on melee combat! Anything from shields to swords to lances to axes to bare fists is fair game. There's no room for ranged weaponry here, however, so anything resembling a rifle, Rocket Launcher, cannon, pistol, or any other ranged weapon is a no-go (Small ranged weapons that are built into the kit itself like head vulcans are ok, however).

More clarification here:
>If the body part has a built-in ranged weapon (head/chest vulcans, claw beams, etc), then that's fine. If it's a separate part like the Alex's arm vulcans it's best to leave those off.
>Melee weapons with in-universe ranged capabilities (Like the Kimaris's lance or the Gyan's shield) are fair game too.
>Any scale and any brand is fair game here, you're not limited to just using Gundams this time around.

I don't own the Bandai one but it is pretty dated.
Daban and Dragon Momoko released a kit version of the Metal Build design so you might opt for that one instead.
I personally hate the Strike Freedom but the Metal Build design made me get one.

Also, I had to fucking nail the pc parts for the wings to the back of it so they would stay. I learned the hard way that poly caps are immune to superglue and tamiya thin cement.

It's not exactly MG tier, but it does have a skeleton, albeit, a bare bones one.
Articulation is great though, with ab crunches and forearm twists, moreso than most standard MGs.
Parts fit are quite tight on some places as you'd expect from 3rd parties so you might need to clean and shave off some parts.
Pictured is Daban's, already comes in plated gold because I'm a lazy fuck.
DM's comes in the standard Bandai puke gold, similar to the revive Hyaku Shiki.

Ahahaha, I WAS working on a sorta voltron/megazord-esque conversion to a Psycho gundam but I realized halfway in that my skills need to improve before I can do it justice. That thing is too big and beautiful for slapdash gunpla skills! Also, on the subject of glue, I found that hot glue of all things helps a ton with polycaps, as well as E6000, though both are thicker than superglue/model-cement so I would restrict usage to internal stuff. However, if you score the polycap and the surface its adhering to, the grip can be pretty impressive!

I've recently finished building a PG Zeta, fresh out of the box. No decals, paint, etc.

I was wondering if it was feasible to disassemble and paint or if it's best left as a pre-construction thing?

Matte. They're military machines. When was the last time you saw a glossy tank? Mask/remove things like visors, mono eyes, and other clear parts. The matte coating will frost them up. I personally use Tamyia TS-80 and it looks wonderful.

Basically, I wanted to make a different kind of mobile armor. It's the psycho gundam's body with parts of the SD Neo Zeong and SD Sinaju head. It's going to be sinanju colors, just huge.

Is there an easy means of removing putty/filler? I put in way too much when trying to do something and now I realized I can't get the piece onto the frame. I'd file it down but I'd probably be there all day.

They're actually a goldmine for cool parts. The scale is usually not too far off from a hg for certain parts. The slim sinanju I'm working on actually uses the shield and boosters from the SD since the regular high grade stuff is way big.

Pic related is the result of my first time painting. I figured it would be better to do small detailing to get a feel for it before moving on to a full kit. I was wondering if the wierd texture was do to not thinning the enamel or something else? Still trying to figure things out before I make a big paint investment.

1) Masking Tape is your friend. Grab some of that shit
2) Thinning paint is essential. You don't want to apply huge single coats and have it done in one run. Go for multiple small coats to build up color. That's part of the reason why it looks so thick there.

Curious how big lupus rex arm ball joints actually are. Smaller then pc ball joints by a few mm but way bigger then normal arm ball joints. My guess is around 5.8mm but not sure.

Anyway does anyone here cut plaplate to fill in visible gaps like skirts or foot parts? Ive seen in wip elsewhere but no one ever says how they get the exact size and shape. Must be a efficient way other then trial and error.

for specifically filling in gaps, people use putty to fill it in and sand it down. to add in details to hollow/empty parts (like behind the skirts), they use pla plate to scribe in details and sand to fit, so depends on what you want to do

My, that's a lot of X's on the MG Providence runners.
I understand that it reuses some of the Freedom 2.0 runners.
If they were gonna reuse the runners anyway, why don't Bandai just keep the only inner frame parts on one runner like they did on the RGs and HGIBOs?
Could help keep down the prices and less wasted plastic parts, right?

The stormtrooper is finished, overall it's a pretty nice kit, I love that they made the eyes from clear plastic even though the effect is so subtle you can barely notice it.

It does have lots of possibility issues though, especially in the wrists and neck, in the picture where he's laying down he's still staring at the ground, and that's with the head joint disconnected to the point it's barely staying on.
He also can't crouch without pulling the knee joint apart.
The shoulders have good possibility but they look really unnatural and ugly if you move them out very far.

Oh these modelling trends. When straight edges are in fashion, customisers rush to sand bevels onto them. When Bandai use bevelled edges instead, customisers lay extra putty on them to stand them straight.

Just looked at the back half of my Helmwige. The nub used to hold on the back skirt could be modded a bit with a spare polycap that would fit a body frame with good articulation. In the IBO line, I think the Hugo frame could work, As the Helmwige legs have their own side plating, you could put them on pretty easily.

You want to buy some sand paper or learn how to clean up nubs better than that. Also maybe buy some Tamiya extra thin cement and learn to get rid of seams (like the one going right down the middle of the gun).

Also at least apply the stickers and water decals, they're fairly simple (yet tedious) but will make the kit a lot better.

Get better with the knife. Learn to cut well enough so that it's clean but doesn't cut a chunk out of the piece. This just takes practice.

Something I like to do is scrape with the knife at an angle and then clean up with high grit sandpaper.

Or you can go the other route which is immensely more time consuming; file and sand. I only really do this for MG kits or kits I'm going to paint as it takes ages.

Sanding my friend. I find myself using micro mesh pads like this pic. They're stiff yet flexible, so they work really well on curved surfaces and the 1500 is able to quickly clean up a pretty flush nub cut . Then you can just polish up with the higher grits. They've been a life saver on the RG Sinanju.

I like to hold my knife flat against the surface and slowly shave off the nub. You dont want to use too much pressure or you can gouge the plastic. Once the nub is worn down, I go in with some sanding sticks. I would recommend the Squadron Models set since it has all of the grits you would need. I dont really use the coarse grit, I start with medium and work my down to a ultra fine polish. Also dont feel discouraged if you will be left with white marks and discolorations. Unless you're painting the kit, it will be visible. Thats the problem with certain color plastic. But with some gloss/matte coats or weathering it can be covered up as well
