Let's nuke this one and start over.
2 questions.
1. What are some of the best 1/100 articulated hands I can buy separately?
2. Where can I get 1/100 weapons that would fit nicely in those hands, especially a beam saber?
don't know if this is "cheating" but i finally finished weathering this graze. really wish there were open palmed hands with this kit

I finally finished my RG Strike Freedom with Wings of the Sky parts. My main complaint is how fragile it is; thin parts were breaking all over the place.
Apart from that, I ended up liking it a lot more than I expected. I felt the gold was tacky and shit but eh.
The WotS effect parts were a little finicky to fit in. One side went in just fine, the rest were... eh.
In any case, it now decorates my office. I may need to take some cement to it to seal up the worst of the cracks, though. Also, the shield effect decals were a bitch and a half to paste on, which is why I posed it in a boring hover pose instead of a HiMAT Full Burst pose.

Bought this old Endless Waltz kit, I guess it requires painting? Do older kits typically do this? Because I wanted to pick up the rest of this set, but now I don't know, as I currently lack the means to paint.
>>15286037
If you buy an old kit, expect to paint. Only as Bandai got better at color separation did paintless kits become standard.
>>15286037
That's the crux of old Wing HG kits. Check the sticker sheet, there may be one to cover that shield up.
>>15286037
> Do older kits typically do this?
Yes, older kits tend to be one colour only and have bad line seperation, you also have to drill out your own holes and sometimes (depending on the age of the kit) plastic cement everything and still end up with very loose parts if following directions.
>>15286037
short answer: yes
long answer: also depends on scale and grade. older kits required painting the further you go back. better start practicing.
look at some kits they've made in the 80s and you can really see how far they've come
>>15286054
There are stickers for the white, but not the blue. Suppose I could just buy a can of blue spray or something. Feel like it'll differ to much from the rest of the kit though.
>>15285618
I'd have more fun in the ball pit desu
Finished snapping together a RG Sinanju. Heard about this guy usually having loose joints, lots of pieces liking to fall off, and the inability of this guy to stand without using a base. havent had any of those problems other than for the tips of the toes occasionally falling off when im holding it and moving stuff around. Did I get lucky?
>>15286074
You could mask the shield and hit it with a white and blue spraycan
>>15286198
Yeah, gotta learn eventually I guess.
>>15286248
Well the good thing with old Wing kits is they are cheap to practice on. That Tallgeese shield has all the sculpted panels you need to mask and paint it.

>>15286141
Just give it some time, my RG Zeta was the best most solid thing ever but then after standing in same spot for few months the legs decided to fuck themselves and now I need a stand just to make it do anything, not to mention random parts decide to fall apart because they feel like it.
What does the MG 2.0 Gelgoog have over the original? Does it have tighter joints or better plastic or anything, or is it just different molding?
>>15286540
Pretty much answered your own question there, Anon. 2.0 has better range of motion, full inner frame, and better detail/part seperation
Contemplating to get God Gundam and X/Double X gundam, are they good HG wise?
>>15286903
God Gundam needs paint.
Gundam X is actually surprisingly good, I really enjoyed it.
I don't know about Double X. I hear it's impressive just because it's big but the lack of surface detail hurts it.

Oh dang i can only afford to put lining decal and topcoat at this point.
>>15287058
The only paint it needs is yellow on the chest jewel thing. You can just buy a can of Tamiya Yellow, mask the surroundings, and spray.
I think Gundam X and Double X require no paint whatsoever so if you really don't want to paint, get those. Or start buying Master Grades. Most HGs require some degree of detail painting.
>>15287065
Yeah nice advice thanks, i only stick to HGs for now since i don't have the space and money for them, probably down in a few months i will get MGs.
Just got into Gunpla for one month and a half.
How do you keep a backlog, /m/? Maybe its because I just snap, line, and topcoat, but I buy a few, build them, bask in their glory, then get more. How does one even let things like this accumulate?

>>15286037
Be ready to paint...I like the old kits though, great bases for customs
>>15287495
>>15287497
Not that anon, but is the issue that the peg is too tight or that it's breaking under the weight of the kit if you're not using the stand? Because the former should be easy to solve just by sanding a tiny bit.
>>15288124
>>15287495
>>15287497
So the hip joint can't bare the weight of the kit when standing? That would not be an issue since I was planning on putting it on an AB anyway.
Or is there some other issue with the hip?
>>15287285
What are you painting it with? I just recently got a Turn X but I haven't decided what to do with it, but those colors look quite good.
>>15288042
Get some Jims
How's the MG Jim 2.0, speaking of which? I'm thinking of just getting the 1999 version honestly
>>15288128
>>15288124
The Freedom 2.0 isn't that heavy, I assure you.
The issue with the hip is both tightness and basic physics. Following the instructions will make you put the legs into the hips in an awkward angle.
It would've been fine if the peg was on the legs themselves, but the pegs to attach the legs are on the waist.
That, along with the somewhat tight hole means you're using more force than usual to put the peg in. But that's not the biggest risk.
The hole that the instructions tell you to put in the peg is attached to a swinging joint, so there's a chance that joint might suddenly move. That sudden movement is the biggest risk to the peg breaking.
There's many solutions, but mine is to minimize the movement by building attaching Step 8 <3> to the waist unit WITHOUT attaching it to the legs, THEN attaching the legs through the thigh hole. It's a less awkward angle and there's no swing between the hip peg and the thigh hole.
>>15288168
It's a great kit honestly. I'd even say that it wears the 2.0 frame better than the Gundam itself even.
> I'm thinking of just getting the 1999 version honestly
Don't do it man, the 1.0 is irredeemably shit, just go and look at it on dalong. The MG GUndam and GM 1.0 are among the worst MGs to date.
>>15287339
I could remove that, but that doesn't stop people from just clicking the link in the thread again. If there's multiple votes in quick succession for the same entries that looks kinda suspicious, then I'll just remove all but one of those votes.

Gloss gray looks horrible, so matte on that one for sure. Flat or gloss for the black and white?
>>15288668
You could always put a semi gloss coat on top of the red so the shine's more reasonable, as well you should try removing the waist and putting some superglue over the ball joint to tighten the waist up

The Origin doesn't have a core fighter so it has the best waist mobility. It has the newest engineering and comes with a bunch of shit and a shoulder gun.
The RX-78-2 old MG is old and it shows.
The 2.0 is the most "animation accurate" and comes with a shitload of stuff but has less surface detail.
The 3.0 is a copy of the big Gundam statue so it has a slightly different design and more surface detail but comes with less stuff.

>F91 RG
You want a bunch of toothpicks held together with hopes and dreams? Sure!
>F91 HG Revive
Why? The AGP release basically is about as up to date as possible on HG engineering already. It even has a bunch of inner frame. The only possible improvement really would be slightly better part separation on the VSBR.
>>15290719
Wait, there was ever any doubt about it being a separate part? That's not exactly anything fancy considering the size.

>sticker fest
There are much worse than the f91. The stickers on his shoulder are easy to put on, as are the little triangles. The blue stickers on his cannons are so huge that they're impossible to mess up. You really not outta let that steer you away from the kit. It's such a great design and the kit's all around solid.
would you say this is an accurate description of the gunpla experience?

>His construction is sturdy and parts don't separate too easily

>Has no articulation either, can't even hold it's gun right
Fuck.
I can't wait to see what's wrong with their AC kits.
>>15291704
Up until the Muv-Luv kits Kotobukiya was famous for their brittle plastic. I think the apex of their shit plastic was during the AC4 kits. Practically like glass. Also, horrendous seam lines.
Frame Arms are when they started really stepping their game up but the first gen FAs have serious problems with tolerances and parts fit.

It's a kit from 2009 that already has pretty good parts separation. It doesn't need a revive.

You should get it just because you love the ZZ there are a couple issues with articulation because of the pack and there are a couple parts that need painting (the knees) but its pretty solid.

Painting this Schwalbe. I ran out of primer on the frame, so I'm gonna grab some from hobby lobby this week.
Also, found out the Barbados shoulders do fit the Schwalbe. So I'm probably going to use them instead of the ones it comes with.
>>15287285
Just snapped together a Hydra Gundam. Kind of disappointed in the level of articulation, but I got it for a kitbash project anyway so it's not too big of a concern. It looks pretty bad ass standing on my desk with the claws out and everything.

>>15292633
The way that one was done was due to how the IBO kits are attatched at the waist. The Graze there uses the ball polycap pointing downward from the upper torso with the hole end is in the lower torso, while most other modern HGs (The Gaeon in this case) uses the balljoint on the lower torso and the hole end in the upper torso. This way lets the builder attach the two torsos together without any serious modding.
>>15292604
We knew that already, because TRY was birthed from GBF.

>Taking out the V-fin at all
>Taking out the V-fin and not sealing the gap
You sicken me, but otherwise it's not bad. the normal 00 legs might be better than the 7swords since you're not using them to hold weapons.
>>15293031
>>15293039
i like it, but you should really do something about the head. either maybe cover it up with a mask, or add something to the head so it doesnt look like gundam without a v-fin
>>15292214
Fifth place? Didn't expect to get any higher. Thanks to those who voted.
>>15293041
This is an alternate head that I quite like but don't like posting because I literally just glued random parts to make it (back of exia's head for the "visor" and a beam saber handle for the "horn"). Sometimes I change the chest for 0 Gundam's chest but the shoulders end up looking too small in comparison.
>>15293043
The plight of a kitbasher with little to no other skills :(. I change out a lot of parts so I'm a little hesitant to cover the hole incase I want to use the V-fin for another kit. I agree that it's distracting though and its why the first pic >>15293031 was angled to hide it
>>15293067
Personally I love the lean appearance of it and think you shouldn't change a thing. I don't like that alt head, it looks too bulky and monstrous. I would save it for something else like a Dom kitbash.
>>15293067
If you're stuck coming up with ideas and you just want to do kitbashing, then Gundam Breaker 3 is good since you can get an idea for how well the kits would mesh.
>>15293039

>>15293067
I think the head is a big improvement. cleanup it a bit and add a little paint and it would look perfect

>>15293119
One day I'll try my hand at painting, would really open up the options. Right now I'm forced to kitbash using parts of the same color
>>15293135
I think you should just leave it like in here >>15293039. That looks perfect to me. It looks really lithe and agile and fast. When you change the head, the new head doesn't really fit and the shoulders are too big now. Don't be that guy who has the perfect marshmallows and then throws them back on the fire because he thinks they're not done enough.
>>15293140

>>15293353
A Kampfer or Jahannam painted black would work pretty well. Maybe Dom too.
Revive Zoloat when?
>>15293353
You gotta think outside the box. Corporate security would go with two types of MS, a really heavily armored, fast thing for the big jobs and something unassuming packing surprise firepower for the smaller jobs. Instead of thinking of what corporate goons would look like if they were men, imagine what a corporation would actually use. Like I could see private security firms using Asshimars. Huge, intimidating, heavily armored, a single big, versatile gun, a high mobility high armored form, and the ability to just bolt additional guns on the side if necessary.
>>15293452
You're gonna need an HGUC first before you can give it the Revive treatment. RE/100 more likely though.
Will putting a flat topcoat over HG Sticker decals make them stand out worse? I'm worried about the outlines on the sticker contrasting with the color of the plastic post coating.
When I put aflat topcoat over a HG with sticker decals will the stickers blend better or worse with the plastic? I heard some bad things about the edges of sticker decals becoming more visible after a top coat. What should I do?
Anyone know I site I can preorder the RG Quanta Full Saber from?
>>15293459
Going by that logic, you'd want a big, imposing and visible MS for corporate security and a sneaky high performance MS as a quick response force.
Asshimars fit the first bill, while Jestas do the second.
