This week did a lot more to endear Alice to me than the previous, the "date" with Rei was pretty damn cute. The horror was a little goofy looking but the transformation was stunning and I appreciate more service training with Rei

I finished seeing Garo Makai Senki, I found it better than the first series, more epic, more developed villains and having more persoangens that are better used, even the common case episodes are better than the first season.

Tougen no Fue was one of the gayest movies I've ever seen.

I liked the series of Zero, even with some potential wasted, but I still do not understand why women can not be Makai knights.

In-story, women naturally have higher amounts of Yin than men, which makes it incredibly difficult for them to even lift Soul Metal without risky workarounds (see: Yuna) and makes it impossible to don Makai Armor, which both require a high degree of spiritual balance.

Production-wise, Amemiya can't figure out how to make female armor look good in a way that satisfies him.

Maaaaan, I really wish Dragon Blood was just a bit better. I really like the character focus on Rei, the episodic stories and the rivalry/fights with Edel but the rest is a little shaky. As it is I still really enjoy the show but its sitting at like a 8/10 when it could easily be a 9

People dislike it for being different. Protag who isn't Kouga with a personality and attitude to work that is very noticeably nothing like his. (Bright hope being a keyword here.) Zaruba refusing to get involved with the new guy at first. Rookie knights instead of seasoned veterans. New breed of horrors. Redesign of the Garo armor. Use of CG armor instead of suits. etc. etc. That the show had a bit of a slow start didn't help either.

I don't dislike it because I find it different, I dislike it because I find it BAD. The character development is shitty, the designs are sparse, the plot makes no sense in some points...

It has its virtues too, and it is normal that it has both fans and haters, but "being different" is far from the only reason to dislike the show.

I think YamiTera had a lot of cool ideas, but the execution was lacking.

It's polarizing like that because Yami Wo Terasu basically shits away the Garo series' rules of being cool and instead replaces them with drama.

This would be fine if it was done well (See: Garo The Animation) but it's really just simply not. The show highlights the heroes' fuck ups with no grace or comedic stature so you quickly just lose hope in themand then never bothers to reinstill it beyond implyng that they're trying their best ,the combat moments are very poor and look like they belong in Sentai or Kamen Rider instead of well, GARO, and a lot of the character moments are just eyerollingly childish.

The thing I really, really dislike is that they don't use the armors much. The armor is used for a handful of seconds per episode, at most.

Also, the Horrors rarely get a monstrous form, and the protagonists are all IDIOTS. It's probably the weakest installment of the entire franchise.

Saying that YamiTera action is lacking compared to the rest of the franchise is an utter lie, even if someone blindly believes it. I'm not that anon but I also use the "they hate it for being different" as a way to call people who just wanted to hate it. This is bound to happen less with the anime because people are already aware that GARO isn't just Amemiya, as shown by how often new people getting into the franchise don't get the overblown hate YamiTera got during its run.

Oh, it's you, katana-anon. I have news for you. Samurai armors and katanas as we know them today didn't exist yet in the Heian period. Even the samurai itself wasn't a widespread thing until the late years of the period. The Japanese also had twin-edged broadswords in the past. As Katsura said in the event Makai no Utage, the design of Garo Jin could be called chronologically inaccurate, but the idea was that in-universe people developed the samurai armor inspired by the design of Garo Jin. This is similar to what happens with Crow, who has a Tengu-like design. In mythology the Tengu were the ones who handed down ninja techniques to the first ninja. Crow looking like a Tengu makes one think that it was actually an earlier Crow title holder who taught ninja techniques to people, or that people imitated him.

It's not even that uncommon for a toku villain to suddenly lose even though little changed just because the show needs to move on. Some of the two-parter heavy Rider shows have this with regular monsters.

Well, Sonshi was always strong, but even since the first fight against him Ryuga was able to land a clean cut on him (at the end of the fight). I think the show cared to show Ryuga's high potential through details like that. After that the Knight kept battling constantly and improving constantly. Especially Ryuga, since he was receiving his mother's feelings from each Madou Horror he cut down, thus gradually powering up his armor. Ryuga was able to sort out his motivations and renew his convictions through the blindness episode he suffered, and that ought to make him a better Knight. By the final fight against Sonshi, Ryuga spoke out how Sonshi became a goal he wanted to surpass because of how strong he was. It was somewhat subtle, but I think the progression was consistent enough.

One of the things that are interesting for me in this kind of stories is how the main characters are going to surpass their obstacles (in Garo is mostly with power ups which I am kind of tired of, but in Makai no hana for example was a matter of strategy).

In Ywtm, the way that I perceived it was like "Ryuga surpasses Sonshi when we want him, no explanation whatsoever".

The first Garo anime Honoo no Kokuin is good, Guren no Tsuki is awful with pretty much no redeeming qualities. Bad animation, characters, plot, the works.

Honoo no Kokuin can be found readily available on Nyaa. Keep in mind that the first half is a bit weak with a handful of strnger episodes and Gaia always being cool, while the second half is more consistently very strong.

Edel was literally infused with malevolence constantly. It's cool that dragons feed on Horrors and all, but sadly you are what you eat. Edel transforms by inserting a dragon's fang in his body and the malevolence forms the armor. All of his Giryuus were alse made from malevolence. I think he fits the criteria for someone the knights/priests are allowed and obliged to kill if proven dangerous.

He hasn't done that at all though? the worst he's done was let Alice keep her memory and he's hardly the first Knight to ever do that. They only send killers after you if you've well and truly fallen to darkness, and Rei isn't even CLOSE to that point. Besides which, I doubt they'd be so eager to get rid of a Knight on part with Garo

On another point, the body count so far has actually been fairly low, just 4 low level priests that the tribune probably didn't give a shit about to begin with. Compared to the masses slaughtered in Senki, Yamitera, Goldstorm, HnK I'd say its been surprisingly clean

In fact the only true mistake I'd say he made up to this point was going to finish off Alice and the dragon himself instead of just letting Rekka do it, but I can hardly blame him for that one.

For a story MC it is fine to have their feelings but for Order they don't fucking care. The Order has trained their employees to become emotionless robots. This is why you see so many fucked up knights and priests who will not hesitate to kill their loved ones to complete their missions.
Rei has been ordered to take the egg. He can just walk off with the egg and have Rekka to deal with the rest, or the other way around. Instead he kept the girl around and had "good times".
The guy has shown more than enough reasons for the Order sending their pawns after him.

Actually his orders were "Protect the egg and eliminate the Dragon Knight". He took the egg to Lupo, and put Alice into custody there as she locked the thing (albeit unsuccessfully) while he and Rekka dealt with the Dragon Knight. While things didn't go according to plan, at no point did he ever directly disobey orders given. And again, he's a Makai Knight on par with Garo with strength, they ain't just gonna throw that away on the basis of him being emotional at times.
