prior to this, the movies for Rider/Sentai were always the back-to-back non-intrusive halves, and Sentai has the additional crossover home video (iirc) with the previous series

Den-O as I recall was that changed the status quo, having multiple movies, crossovers, and such, and it was around that time they had the half-movie with Sentai + their own extra film (and this is ignoring all their specials afterwards, including the crossover with Kiva), even Decade's first movie romp (which was the half-movie with Shinkenger) was a Den-O crossover

It wasn't until W that added the "crossover movie" with the previous season like Sentai, moving the Rider/Sentai half onward, and due to the altered scheduling, the Rider/Sentai half movies had this "Rider has final form ep"/"Sentai has first arc" part.

199 Great Hero Battle was something like the Rider crossover movies, aired near the same time from what I remember. But otherwise, Rider has in-series crossover movie -> Rider/Sentai half, whereas Sentai has Rider/Sentai half -> in-series crossover movie

Then they added the Taisen series during GB, with the only anomaly being Kamen Rider 1. This is squeezed between the Rider's in-series crossover movie and the Rider/Sentai half

Go-Busters. Good Story fun characters, cool action. Reminiscent of older stuff but new enough that it's easy to get into for a newcomer who might not be willing to watch older stuff right off the bat. Also if you ever watch Power Rangers it using some language from it that hasn't been used before or since in Sentai which is fun. Also here's a chart for more options.

At the very least, it's obvious they changed the whole context behind the power ups.

-2 episodes featuring them talking about eventually preparing to fight in the subdimension

-1 episode with prototype armor to simulate fighting there.

-Middle show finale "here's a bomb that nulls the effects of the subdimension"

And then right after that we get power ups that look suspiciously like that prototype armor but had nothing to do with it or the sub dimension.

Zyuohger had distinctive villains, even if most of them did fall into sentai villain cliches. More importantly the main villain had his whole treating people like shit thing. If Insarn didn't have breasts people wouldn't think a god damn thing about her. Naria would have at least still had the coin gimmick and "thank you, Naria!"

Not going to defend the Ninnin villains though, nothing interesting came of that lot. With what few plot points they had being done better in past shows.
