I started watching Go-Busters the other day, and I'm enjoying it a lot, but what really strikes my fancy is all of the scenes where they take their helmets off and you have the face actors in the suits holding the helmets. I love that shit, it needs to happen more often in Sentai.

Kyuranger has the same problem as a lot of modern Sentai robos. The basic formation looks passable to good, but subsequent combinations look awful as they start slapping more and more parts on.

I'm still astounded with how much work and detail they put into the giant fights in Gobus. Nowadays, it almost feels like the giant fights are an afterthought or just treated like an obligation, so it was really surprising to see all of it given so much focus.

Engine-Oh G12 and Samurai Ha-Oh are particularly egregious examples because they have so many parts that just don't really serve a purpose.

Samurai Ha-Oh just sticks Yellow and Pink on the sides of the "throne" and there's so much shit going on with the crown. G12 just slaps the Wings' machines on its shoulders and Green and Black are just there to bulk up the feet.

Deka was really before the all in one clusterfucks. They kind of start with Boukenger's Great/Ultimate Daibouken. although the first with EVERYTHING really was Enginoh G12.

Although, part of the issue afterwards is that they basically seemed to give up on mecha design. Even combinations of two humanoid robots, which seemed fairly simple before, now often end up looking like clusterfucks.

Looks like Daibouken was a tough act to follow then. If you want an early case of putting in all mechs at once, you can go all the way back to Super Live Robo.

That said, if Tsuyoshi Nonaka is still the one drawing the mech designs, I really feel sorry for him being told to constantly mash things up together down the line.

Personally I've never liked the thought of white people cosplaying Japanese heroes out of suit, but that's just because most people either really lack the physique or they don't put any effort into hair and makeup. honestly the only ones that felt particularly bad in that regard of the last 10 years worth of Sentai(Boukenger through Zyuohger) were Shikenger(the combination between the main mech and Shiken Gold's mech, and the final combination both being pretty awful), Gokaiger(pretty much all of the add-ons except Gao/Shiken Lion, and any of the combinations involving multiple mechs), and Gobusters(pretty much every mech besides Red's by itself, and Gold & Silver's mech), every other one is fine for the most part

I ended up using the Sentai wiki's series listing as a way of finding out what seasons were what.
A good place to start is the 90s (Jetman, Zyuranger, Dairanger, Ohranger [had a bunch of shooting issues and it shows], Carranger, Megaranger, Gingaman, GoGoV).
