Akari had no personality other than going "Muh science!" and having wacky slapstick with Igor, Onari was literally just wacky slapstick, no one gives a fuck about the two interns, Sage was more wacky slapstick plus vague exposition, Yurusen was wacky slapstick that was only vaguely relevant because she was a mascot character voiced by a woman people masturbate to, Makoto only had two emotions: "Muh sister" and "NOT MY DAD," and Alain had about 10 minutes worth of genuinely good, entertaining screentime.

Anyone I didn't mention isn't worth remembering.

The thing is you can use 3/4 of those characters in a way to sort of show signs of trauma.

Godai was showing being traumatized, going through the traumatic events and the eventual breaking but not completely going psychotic.

Eiji was showing recent development of PTSD. Outwards they seem fine and able to interact quite well, when in reality they're dead and empty inside and feel like nothing really matters.

Haruto is showing having dealt with trauma for a long time. While obviously hiding depression, he can actually show a lot of optimism and general warmth, but it's not hard to figure out that he's toeing the line from reaching the same kind of despair from before all over again.

Takeru is a mary sue who doesn't really seem to react much at all to anything particularly negative to him, unless you want to consider the suicidal tendencies of his to be an actual trait of his depression and not just bad execution of generic self-sacrificing shonen protag tropes.

What about Gentarou? Gentarou always seemed like the eternal sunshine happy boy, but in one episode we learned that his parents died when he was young. It wasn't a particularly tragic death, they weren't killed by monsters or whatever, but we learn that the reason Gentarou is so dedicated to FRIENDSHIP was because it made his parents happy when he made friends.

The problem with Spectre isn't him being a jobber. All secondaries jobbed a lot in last quarter of the show.
Spectre's problem is he doesn't play any role in main story and stuck in irrelevant clone sub-plot which was totally slow, repetitive and didn't develop his character in any way.
Other secondaries usually still have interesting sub-plot or play important role in the main story despite repetitively jobbing against any big villain.

Fuck you, it was a terrible show. Y'know what the worst part is? it wasn't that bad to begin with. A little bland, a little rushed in a few parts but not terrible. The first warning sign hit when rather than learning lesson of "Hey! maybe murdering people is bad" Spectre just has his problem solved for him anti climactically. After that it went back to being fairly okay, especially with Alain being around as a pretty effective villain. Then we got the 2nd big hit with Grateful, which was a bloody AWFUL debut for a new form. Takeru whines the entire episode, completely abandoning all his previous morals and gets Makoto KILLED but is then handed a new powerup form which magically solves his problem with a shitty fight scene that lasted like a minute. Once again though, the show did pick up a bit, hell I'd even say it got good thanks to Alain. Alain being the only character actually worth a crap in the entire show, who had a genuinely good and well developed arc plus a pretty good performance from Isomura.

The point where the show REALLY dropped the fucking ball was Mugen. Killing off and reviving Takeru for the 3rd time was hilarious, especially when the rest of the cast barely seemed to give a shit. From this point on Takeru is now the goddamn messiah, with everyone praising the ground he fucking walks, taking every opportunity to suck his dick and tell him how amazing he is. We also get the Ganmeizers, probably the worst villains in the franchise, who have absolutely no personality whatsoever and only exist to get destroyed and revived again at the end of every fucking episode.

To top it all off we have Alain's brother, Adel. Adel is shown through out the entire show to be an unholy piece of shit, callously murdering his father and trying to do the same to his brother. He gleefully admits to being the one who took out Takeru's father and is generally an unrepentant prick.

You can't expect every mini-toy to be as good as Lockseeds, which are by far the best mini-toys we have got.

Lockseeds had tons of sounds and uses outside of the Driver. And that's what makes them so great. Gashats aren't so good in that aspect. Actually, they are just a bit better than Eyecons. But there's one thing about the Gashats that makes them almost as good Lockseeds... Play-ability! In Gaim you could have a shit ton of combinations between the Lockseeds. Each Lockseed had different sets of sounds for each slot. Same applies to Gashats. The sounds they produce in the first slot are different than the ones they produce in the second slot. That way you have a shit ton of combinations.

Another awesome thing about them is that you have to use them in order to use finishers. You take them out of the Driver, put them in the finisher slot and activate them. Each action produces a sound and that's hype in your ears. Instead, Eyecons just stay there and all you do is pull a thingy. That's not much energetic or cool.

Also, in Ghost Eyecons would either be used in the Ghost Driver or the Necrom one. The Necrom one is terrible in that aspect. I found it completely boring, and I bet kids did so too. Lack of awesome unique sounds and cool effects. This can apply in Ex-Aid too since the Bugster Buggle doesn't have compatibility with the Gashats, but I find it much more cool and playful that the Necrom one.


This is why I'm not bashing the Eyecons. They were really cool mini-toys, but the Driver was a big failure. Oh, and this is why many people actually enjoyed collecting Core Medals. Even if the Core Medals themselves were dull (though quite cool if you didn't mind seeing the chips inside), the OOO Driver made them extremely interesting to use! So you never really got bored of using them.

The Gashat Gear Dual is everything the Mega Uloader should have been, when it comes to smaller, simpler, lower-budget secondary henshin devices. The Mega Uloader presented itself as another fully-fledged Driver but didn't have it in the cards to come with sounds for all the Eyecons, meanwhile the Gear Dual doesn't imply it should have more than it does, makes cooler use of the voice actor, and even has better SFX to make up for the less satisfying button-activated henshin that both of these toys share. And then the show is nice enough to give us a friggin' final form based on the token (by Ex-Aid's standards, not Ghost's apparently) compatibility sounds.

What makes the Lockseeds better than the Gashats is that they have more visual "candies".

Lockseed: Lock with a Fruit -> Presses button, unique sounds and effects activate -> Can be opened up, showing extra stickers that provide extra visual effects when using button
Gashat: Cartridge with a Logo -> Presses button, unique sounds and effects activate

It's a pretty small reason, but it's enough to place Lockseeds above Gashats. I was kinda disappointed when I saw that the Gashats weren't showing their image on their chip. They would be much cooler to see in the dark rather than just the popping lights.

During the first 12 episodes, it's fantastic. Then it slows down due to the "dude chase tho lmao" shit from Kiriko, but each episode still has something worthwhile in it. After episode 20 though, the show picks up quickly and never slows down. It's a great series only let down by stumbling over itself in the 2nd quarter.

The finale itself is pretty much an Ex-Aid episode done by Ghost's staff. Some child with special powers steals Genm's Bike Gashat and he ends up facing Ghost's cast to recover it. Then Ex-Aid appears at the end of the episode to help Ghost - although initially Ghost thinks that Ex-Aid is Genm.
