Holy fucking shit, why is English voice direction so shit? They missed the entire point of Hiruken Emperor's dialogue. They took the fucking words that the Emperor was saying and gave him an antagonistic voice, when it's fucking clear in the original that the Hiruken is PLEADING and despairing as it eggs Akiyuki to kill himself because he won't have his enemy. The whole point of why the Hiruken Emperor even sent an envoy of itself was because of how DESPERATE it was for Akiyuki to get his name back so they could fight and the English Dub misses it ENTIRELY

A lot of former ADV alumni went to Funimation, most of the current staff are newbies hence the poor quality but from time to time you'll get people like Luci Christen, Monica Rial, etc. in their dubs since they tend to alternate between Funi and Sentai even back when they were still ADV.

While they had a better track record than ADV and actually had a solid rotation of VAs unlike Funimation their dubs were just as inconsistent due to their contract obligations between BangZoom and Ocean Group to dub certain titles leading to mixed results. BangZoom could wind up doing something as fantastic as Cowboy Bebop to something as shitty as Code Geass while Ocean Group would OCCASIONALLY give a good dub like 0079 through the sea of shit.
