You know those chains on all the Kiva suits? They're real metal on both the original hero and stunt suits. Nobody's sure why, the fake chains look just fine on all the suit appearances post-Kiva. That plus the general structure of the base Kiva suit (lots of torso weight) and the fact that all the other early forms are heavier than the base just made it hell to act in. The Decade suit is technically heavier, but the weight distribution is a lot better.

Also technically Emperor isn't the final form, but it's treated as such in Decade and onwards because it's closer to the traditional Heisei Rider final form than his last form.

I got into Rider right at the tail end of Kiva, downloaded the most recent episode, saw what I still consider one of the most utterly unnecessarily cool CG fights in all of Rider and I was totally on board. I was ready for foam suits and terrible effects, so once I started watching seasons from the start my expectations were properly set for me to be 100% on board for anything. Also thankfully, I didn't want to watch Decade before seeing all the previous Heisei series, so I got to avoid the shit taste one seems to develop when Decade is your first Rider. Though I had to watch HK Kuuga and squashed Agito.

I'm near the end of Drive, I think I'm missing 5-6 episodes at most.
It's been my first Kamen Rider (if we don't count the RX adaptation 20 years ago) and I can't say I'm enjoying it so far.

The first 20 episodes were some great MotW despite the bad battle scenes but the Dad's murder arc made me REALLY dislike the show, and Shinnosuke has gotten from my favorite character to the dumbass actively preventing me from enjoying each episode.

I'd like to ask you guys, should I give the movies and specials a chance? If it's any help I've really liked Go and Chase so far (they're been carrying the show since episode 30-something after all), captain Honganji is my favorite supporting character and Brain and Nira are the best villains by far imo.

Apparently there's a Mach spin-off series or something, is it all about Go hunting roidmudes in America? Because I think I'd love that.

How?

It's the arc where Shinnosuke sort of evolves from the central character position, and gets a magnificent crowning moment against Freeze when he first gets Type: Tridoron. Afterwards he just plays a sort of Optimus-esque role to Chase and Gou, who take the frontline.

Someone posted fourze webms and someone else said "I need to watch fourze". The only thing was that the webms were of the SoL parts, and I thought it would be interesting to branch from shitty jap animation to live action stuff.

Keep in mind "/krg/"(it's an entire general, not one person) watches shows weekly, and that can influence how a show looks. Wizard and Ghost are both boring, horrible slogs week to week. Wizard can be half-decent when marathoned and Ghost at least doesn't hurt to watch when you marathon it. Drive, on the other hand, took the weekly formula and ran with it to the point it was incredibly enjoyable waiting and anticipating around the show. Same happened with Gaim, so most people were excited about how they were entertaining weekly experiences, and unfortunately Ghost sort of broke the combo.

Right of the top of my head, 20 episodes after meeting Kyu's roidmude double and Chase joining the gang, Shinn suddenly has an epiphany about roidmudes not being necessarily evil after Heart's spiel about wanting to rule humanity (instead of wiping it out). He then proceeds to save, of all roidmudes, fucking dr. Mengele, an obvious sociopath who has spent the majority of the show killing her own kind and the last two episodes experimenting on them. All this after casually murdering the roidmude whose biggest crime was cooking.
Heart appreciates Shinn's resolution so much he evolves, emanating a fiery aura that would have incinerated all three riders for their troubles and they were saved at the last second by fucking Banno.

Shinn went from the smart guy he used to be to a bumbling idiot who couldn't think straight whenever his dad was involved. To make things worse, the supporting characters were stripped of most of their relevance (Hayase was straight up forgotten) so all the spotlight went to Shinn, which turned out for the worse imo.
Even dying did nothing for him as a character, instead he got a power up as a reward for attacking the roidmude progenitor without the shred of a strategy.

As for the Type: Tridoron form itself, I can't say I like it. One problem about the battles in this show is that every form is insanely useful in its first appearance, then becomes an alternate costume of sorts for when the director wants Drive to wear black, blue or green for a change with little to no change to his battle efficiency. Type Tridoron is, on paper, the ultimate Drive setup with no drawbacks, autopilot (and Mr. Belt seems to be a very strong fighter on top of that), all shift cars combined and the ability to equip three of them at a time YET SHINN KEEPS USING TYPE SPEED as his go-to form when entering any battle. The basic form whose strength lies in having a lot of utility shift cars that he never uses (I can't remember the last time I saw Funky Spike in action).
If he himself doesn't seem to give a damn about what form to use, I'm not exactly thrilled about new forms popping out.

It doesn't help that Type Tridoron is pretty similar to Type Speed: same colors, similar helmet, similar tire position. It looks pretty much phoned in imo.

A friend showed me Blade as my introduction. Always been a fan of transforming hero shows so I took to it pretty quickly. I'm a sucker for playing card motifs so I loved the designs and the gimmick. The bugman look grew on me fast too. I also appreciated that it had more of an ongoing plot rather than PR's basic MotW format where every episode felt kinda samey.

So yeah, I'd say I felt pretty good about it.

Fight time I actually saw it was a dude at my college sitting me down to Fourze on the week it started airing. Honestly I just looked at it as "Sonic Colors the astronaut" and considering that Fourze the kinda just slaps the kamen rider name on him so early that it kinda felt a bit awkward to me who had no idea of the real legacy of it all.
Eventually i ended up digging in more and looked into W and OOOs since they were just as recent and just jumped in from there. Never did get around to finishing Fourze...

I've always interested in Kamen Rider since I used to watch dubbed versions of it on tv as a kid. I never did try to catch up on the modern shows though because it sounded so massive (50~ episodes per title). Eventually decided to take the plunge with Fourze because I kept seeing pictures of Gentarou telling people he'll be their friends and thought it looked rad. I saw Double, OOO, Gaim, Kuuga, Agito and Drive (I managed to catch up with the last quarter of Drive while it was airing) afterwards, there was a period where I was just so excited about seeing more of kamen rider.

I tried watching my first airing series last year with Ghost, but after sticking with it for the first cour it managed to kill my enthusiasm for riders for an entire year. Decided to try again sometime ago though, Ex-Aid had just started airing so I decided to stick with it to the end this time even though it looked like cancer. I turned out to fucking adore it though, I'm EXCITE EXCITE about where it's leading and I've managed to regain my drive and started watching Blade because of it.

Which one are you talking about? Movie Wars? It takes place right before Genm's identity is revealed. Ex-Aid gets a show power up there earlier than in the show, but then loses the power up and the memories of ever having used it, making the whole thing irrelevant. It does apparently spoil what's likely going to be a twist in the tv show later though.

If you mean the cameos in the Ghost movie and the last few episodes, then they could be at any time after the first episode, but before Movie Wars.

Started back in 1995 with Masked Rider. I really liked it, despite my 5-year old self being fully aware of how bad it was even in comparison to MMPR.

Skip ahead to 2003. While looking up Sentai info, I happen across a badass looking pic of Faiz and instantly fall in love. But something seems strangely familiar. After further investigation, I land on a geocities page detailing the series from Showa up to Kuuga. So THAT'S where Masked Rider came from. Neat.

Alas, I still can't watch it because my family had shitty DSL at the time, and filling up our shared computer with videos of Japanese Insectoid Power Rangers would have been frowned upon.

Five years later, after keeping up with the franchise off and on, I'm finally ready to take the plunge shortly after Decade starts. I finally have my own computer with a decent connection. I marathon the first five episodes of Decade on Youtube. I fall in love all over again, and marathon eps of Kabuto and Den-O in the interim between Decade releases.

Me and the franchise have been married for 8 years now, and despite our ups and downs our relationship hasn't waned at all. We're expecting our first child in June.

What do you think is more good watching first, Faiz or Blade?

Before I went into (Japanese) Tokusatsu, I was really into Power Rangers. During 2010, I heard about Super Sentai, but I had the impression that it was merely a bootleg series for Japan. I didn't bother researching about it since the few clips I watched on the internet made me feel weird. A few months later, during the study week before the final exams of the 3rd middle school year, I found out about Kamen Rider OOO through some PR/SS news site on FB. I liked how the suits seemed more mature than Power Rangers and the video clips I watched hyped me up. I decided to give it a go and I fell in total love with it from the first episode! Good thing for me was that OOO was half-way through back then, so I had a LOT of episodes to watch. I recall having to be at school for exams at 8:00 and I was watching OOO at 07:30. That shit was just amazing. Last released episode before I started waiting a week for each new episode was the TaJaDoru debut episode! I haven't missed a KR episode since then! Man... It's been 6 and a half years since then...

About my impression of SS being a bootleg of PR, I found the truth soon after. I heard about the then new SS season (Gokaiger) and since the concept was like Decade, I thought "Hey, let's check this shit out". I really loved it, but I'm not that fond of SS. I didn't bother finishing Gobusters and I'm only watching Zyuohger through the stream, so no subs.

It plays with the dynamic that a lot of people can use the drivers not necessarily just the main riders like usually.

Takumi is likably flawed (much more than Blade who barely does anything in his series except for like the last 2 episodes)

You'll find enjoyment out of it until Kusaka joins then everything falls to shit.

True. The reason I couldn't get into Sentai back then was merely because I didn't know if I'd like watching Japanese people do things. Instead, dubbed anime were pretty much like cartoons with a different type of art. Kusaka was the best part about Faiz (apart from the suits).
He's unironically one of my favorite secondaries.

I said all ex aid riders. Not all ex aid characters. Read buddy. So it's 5 so far against 20+ people characters half of which are riders.

Plus even then, the only flaw Nico has is that she's had less than 5 minutes screen time to develop. You can't say she's good or not just like you can't say Dan's dad is good or not

Where as Gaim had 10+ riders and they were all either cliche or boring. The side characters did fucking nothing at all times and contributed nothing especially the Heroine. The only one you end up vaguely liking is Goro-chan but that's more from his other rider series.

Ex Aid which has significantly less characters has much more likeable ones.
