***READ THE GUIDE***

*** THERE IS NO "GUNPLA/PLAMO GENERAL" DISCORD SERVER, THERE IS ONLY A TEXT CHANNEL ON THE /m/ DISCORD: https://discord.gg/TGjVRAG ***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 2/1/17
Submissions go to
[email protected]
Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

who here strictly goes quality over quantity here? about how many kits do you end up buying in a month? and how long do you take with em?

Also how fucked will i be if i airbrush at 0C and let the paint dry indoors?

Probably a Master Grade every other month. Takes me a week to fully build and decal.

And why would you do that.
>>
>>15067491
0c( approximately 30 f) is fine as long as its not humid and you find yourself a spot that is dry somewhat. Nothing wrong with letting it dry indoors just find yourself a well ventilated area.

I wouldn't try it if its much colder than that.
>>
>>15067480
>>15067487
No no no first build part that was a ruse.
The line is called universal units, they are like really tiny gunpla that comes in credit card sized boxes. The scale is like 1/200 I think, some parts come painted out of the package and the articulation is surprisingly good for something this size.
I kinda just went ham with some markers and called it a day.
>>
>>15067495
I dont have a spray booth yet, so i would have to airbrush in my garage then let it dry indoors.

Fully building and decaling isnt what i had in mind for quality.... i was thinking more along the lines of fully painting, slight mods, void filling,etc....

spray booths are for richfags and people with too much disposable income. you don't need the fancy stuff to make your paint looks decent, just basic knowledge and good ol' improvisation.

Despite what the other people say those little spots on the paint give kits their own character and rugged personality, sure as shit beats being a snapfag and staying like that.

Guy who suffered through an RG Zeta as his first build here, I just built my second kit, an HG Gundam Astaroth, a day or two ago. I enjoyed it a lot more, and I didn't fuck anything up for the most part (I got one or two scratches on the blue plastic from sanding/nipping nubs, the most apparent ones on the feet, but I'm sure it doesn't ruin the overall look too much). I'm too scared to apply the stickers, I've heard nothing but horror stories about how shit they are (in general, not this kit specifically).

Oh and before I fuck off, one last thing, when's a good time to stop being a snapshitter?
>>

Hey, has there been any more news about the MG GM Sniper II White Dingo edition from Gunpla Expo 2017?
>>
>>15067596
Not really. There's been one or two posts speculating it's going to be a regular release based on what Derringer's said, but the posts this belief is based on are kinda cryptic so it's hard to really say. Wait a month or so; more info about the White Dingo version is bound to pop up after the vanilla version hits stores on the 19th.

Gundam kits stickers are all kind of mesy across the board. i'd rather deal with water slide stickers anyday of the week.

Usually the best time to stop being a snapfag is when you get your own living quarters and appropriate spaces to do the spray painting.

You're supposed to be fine if you topcoat after anyway.
On that same note I've heard it's useless to put waterslides on without topcoat because then dust gets on them and there's really no way to get dust off without rubbing off the decal.
>>
>>15068150
I do, it just rubs off too easy, even after topcoat and drying for 24 hours.
>>
>>15067559
Right now I'm using Xuron 2175 Maxi Shear flush cutter, and it's pretty nice. I didn't realize how large they'd be but they fit my hand better that way anyway, and as long as you watch your placement when cutting gates they're fine.
A lot of people recommend the Gundam Planet nippers, and Tamiya is a brand favorite but it comes with the premium price.
Godhands are the meme nippers but with genuine quality, I've heard. I would never pay the meme price, and it's notorious for the stock getting bought out and resold via scalper.
>>
>>15068153
What are you using for topcoat? The only topcoat I ever used that didn't make waterslide near-permanent was krylon.

And are you sure what you used in the past were waterslides and not just clear stickers?

Why is the Unicrap gundam so popular? It's an ugly design. It's boring to look at. The show it came from is pure shit. And its pilot is a twat who needs to choke on a chicken nugget and die. Plus it's a VERY obvious cashgrab in that you have to buy both it's Faggotcorn mode and Deshit mode separately. So why do so many people buy it? It doesn't make any sense.

Be careful. One and done isn't something that said about gunpla. Can you only take one hit of the crack pipe?

Also, if you have prior experience in modeling, gunpla is easy. The hard part is deciding which one you want.

Question is the 1/100 vidar an actual kit or is it just a pre made figure where you can take the armor off?
Also if it is a kit how beginner friendly is it?
>>
>>15069251
It is an actual kit.
http://blog.livedoor.jp/hobisima-rittai/ASW-G-XX_2016-12-23
>>
>>15069251
Kit.
Pretty much every kit is easy and beginner friendly
>>
>>15069255
>>15069257
Thanks, then I'll definitely buy it.
Also what grade is it, I thought it was a MG because of the scale, but someone said IBO doesn't have MG kits, if so what grade is this kit then?
>>
>>15069265
read the guide
>>
>>15069265
It doesn't have one. You can call it a No Grade (NG), or by their new "Full Mechanics" kinda deal. It's just a name they threw in on S2, to give it a designation I guess.
>>
>>15069289
>>15069293
Oh so except for the size there is no difference between the HG and NG/full mechanics?
>>
>>15069299
Yes, scale is the only difference. The IBO kits are like that. They do have an inner frame though, so they're a bit different in general.
NG's in general are just huge HGs.
>>
>>15069303
Then I am probably better off just buying the HG right?
>>
>>15069047
are you a faggot
>>
>>15069307
Complete preference really.
1/100 can have a lot more detail, and better proportions, but they take up more room and do cost a bit more. You also need quite a bit more paint for bigger stuff so that's a thing too.
I just think 1/100 looks a lot better, they're more fun.
>>
So tomorrow's New Years Eve.

Post your yearly compilations.
>>
>>15069299
The side armor sheath gimmick and the pistal holders don't work in the HG kit.
>>
>>15069321
>You also need quite a bit more paint for bigger stuff
That might be a deal breaker for me since I have 2 left hands how far can I manage with just a thin Black panel liner?
>>
>>15069324
Well, you can panel line at least. I don't know about the stickers or anything on the Vidar, but some kits have ugly stickers and would do better with paint, but some are still fine.
>>
>>15069323
>>15069338
I guess I just have to buy some paint and git gud.
Gunpla paint can be removed with alcohol right?
>>
>>15069347
Paint isn't necessarily needed, but it will definitely make your stuff look a lot better.
You should read the guide and other resources about the types of paints that are used, and how to use them.
Personally, I'm using Tamiya acrylics, so far they've been fine.
>>
>>15069347
If you hate stickers you should go for the 1/100 kit.
The HG kit has a few giant stickers on Vidar's arms and shoulders.
>>
>>15069353
>>15069356
thanks I'll try to paint a SD kit and see how it goes.

> Amazing Jim

>>
>>15069299
There are a number of differences, the 1/100s have better part separation and in the case of Vidar actual functioning gimmicks. They're similar in engineering not because the 1/100s are particularly downgraded, but because the HGs are rather good as HGs go. It's the first time a range has had inner frames for HGs across the board.

Do you really want to start with a PG? Its a much more elaborate and expensive kit. Not to mention its a bit of an oldie too.

Anon, sometimes you have got to swallow your pride and just use your nippers to the quick and some high grit sandpaper to smooth it out and do spot treatment with some gundam markers on stress marks.

Tiny part nubs aren't worth blood.

Why can't I be good at models like you are? Even your FAG looks good.

What? No. The first of the segmented tube pieces refused to slide to it's intended position.
It had fused slightly with that soft grey plastic that makes up part of runner K, and I ended up slicing my thumb (and got a blister too) trying to work it free.
I did get it free though, and I'll resume assembly once I heal.

Yeah, paint looks a little thick, particularly on the legs. Did you use a brush? I've seen clean paint jobs done with brush but it's not easy. Get yourself an airbrush, even a little cheapie just to start, and properly thin your paints.
Regarding the color scheme, I think the color contrast between the blue and pepto-bismol pink is too harsh, not to mention what parts you painted what seems to be done just at random. If you want, take a look at the link provided, it'll give you some gundam line-art that's good to fill in the colors in Paint, or Photoshop, and get an idea of how it'll look before dedicating paint to it.

It's pretty solid build mate. The beam sabers are easily held by the articulated hands and there's a right trigger hand for the Enhanced Beam Rifle. The only loose parts I have are the foot connections and that's easily solved with super glue

Either you have a defective copy or you weren't careful during the build process.
>>

>Pour type markers are based.

Man, I should really invest in one of those. I don't hate using Gundam markers, but they do require more cleanup than I'd like.
>>
>>15070181
Maybe it is defective.
The right trigger hand can't hold the rifle at all and the mold hand has trouble dealing with the weight of the rifle.
Also the guns on the build booster fall apart often.
might just glue it together so what ever.
>>
>>15070221
>The right trigger hand can't hold the rifle at all

It's a pretty odd fit but it's not impossible. The slot that attaches the fingers to the hand is blocked by the rifle, but I found a way.

Remove the entire hand from the arm. Then, insert the part of the hand with the fingers on the rifle first and THEN the part that attaches to the arm, then attach the whole thing to the arm.

Either way, good luck on everyone's builds!

You should really turn on your flash on your camera for these, that way they're less grainy

>I first put on my marker then take a tissue and smear it till it looks natural.

Usual method is to use super-thinned enamel paint so it kind of floods the panel lines, then clean up any excess with lighter fluid (the stuff is basically enamel thinner). So your technique is not too far removed.
