Getter Robo is undoubtedly the best /m/ manga that features giant robots as well and is responsible for some of the best /m/ anime, so let's discuss them. What are your favorite parts of the various stories, and what's your favorite robot?
The ending of the Getter G manga was one of my favorite parts of the saga.
The last episode of New was also hype as fuck, 3 INSERT SONGS.
Favorite robut is pic related, although Go/Neo are really cool too.
Yep. Daikessens' version of Black Getter has things like a drill arm, and its tomahawks aren't chained together.
I don't remember if that's the case, but you do have two Shin Getters - that giant thing in the back is the Daikessen version of Shin Getter Dragon, which unfortunately has no video on Youtube because people keep fucking taking them down.
Post your favorite getter music you niggers
Can't choose a robot because they're all god tier
It sure looks like a black shin getter.
You just posted it, so instead:
There are things to talk about in Getter besides m-muh valhalla and m-mah GAR, the original forced meme
Like how Kamui was right.
but well the face of autism
No we are going to enjoy things senpai
That means muh valhalla and muh GAR along with muh galactic genocide and muh evolution
Well you aren't really contributing to the thread, dude. You're just sitting there saying how people should talk about what you wanna talk about. This is going to be my last post to you since you sound like you're just trying to derail another getter thread.
Hien is the best non-Ishikawa Getter design, prove me wrong
>there will never be a series that copies the manga's art the way Daikessen did
Fuck it makes me so angry knowing it's never gonna be translated.
Why did Kamui get so excited about the people who killed Takuma's mom? At no point did he ever seem like he actually liked Takuma, but after that he was pulling the whole "we're friends, but..." card.
Why didn't Hayato tell Kamui about how demons killed Kamui's father like a bitch? That would have prevented some misunderstandings. If peace with humans were achieved, then Getter Emperor would have never happened and Getter projects could have been decomissioned.
I was out of the loop for a little while, wasn't there a new Getter manga?
>Why did Kamui get so excited about the people who killed Takuma's mom?
I don't understand what you mean. Could you be specific?
>Why didn't Hayato tell Kamui about how demons killed Kamui's father like a bitch?
That had nothing to do with Kamui's decision. He was only thinking about Getter's genocidal future.
>If peace with humans were achieved, then Getter Emperor would have never happened
They don't know that. What they know about the future is that humans went into space and ended up fighting aliens as they fought for territory. Getter then jumped into lead humans. They specifically mention that Getter manipulated events to its favor. Essentially, as far as the Aliens and Kamui are concerned, Getter Emperor is belligerent no matter what.
>I don't understand what you mean. Could you be specific?
He acted like he was ready to avenge Takuma's mom. "You're the bastards who killed Takuma's mother!"
>That had nothing to do with Kamui's decision. He was only thinking about Getter's genocidal future.
The demons were manipulating him. His friends didn't want the Getter Emperor to happen either, and he was acting like Go.
>Essentially, as far as the Aliens and Kamui are concerned, Getter Emperor is belligerent no matter what.
This is fair.
>So you're the ones who killed Takuma's mother!
Sounds more like an observation to me. At the time, there were enemies anyway, so Kamui was ready to fight either way.
>The demons were manipulating him
Not really. He knew their aims and it coincided with what he thought at the time.
Kamui did nothing wrong
>Musashi dies in literally every adaptation of getter robo
>his replacements always suck
>there will never be a good getter 3 pilot
>cliffhanger the manga brings him back like pic related
>he's pretty much a one-off villain
At least Benkei had character and didn't suck in Armageddon I guess.
Explain how is he not a villain. The series was setting itself up to question the morality of using the getter and when you get to that point you realize he's pretty much only a puppet to the getter, implying the same for all the other characters that died and went to getter valhalla.
So, I just finished New Getter Robo, it was my first Getter series and I liked it, A LOT. But there is always the question: what to watch now?
Gai was the least offensive one since he gets SOME character development. Baku didn't suck i guess, but they definitely implied he wasn't "good enough" and he has like almost no character same with Gai.
>Sarcastic slacker with an ego. Still, he's a competent pilot that was chosen by Saotome.
>Intelligent and level headed andre the giant mechanic. Soft spoken and pilot, but protective of his friends with a strong sense of justice.
>Slightly psychic monk who has always lived in the shadow of his messiah brother. Doesn't have much faith in his abilities but is persuaded by others against his judgement.
Baku didn't get much development, but his manga was cut short RIP.
i dont think that the issue is they're not well characterised, its more the fact that they dont actually do that much compared to 1 & 2 pilots ever do and often ever end up only having one or two cool scenes.
Many memes in this post
Comparing authors that have completely different styles there m8. I'm more than willing to give it at least a couple more chapters, especially since we have no idea how long this remake is supposed to be.
Musashi actually feels like the most complete getter 3 pilot he just doesn't fucking last. He also dies because of a retarded kid who never shows up in the manga again.
I hate Benkei in the manga but he's an incredibly likeable character in Armageddon.
The rest of the getter 3 pilots go from okay to meh.
You seem to be forgetting someone.
I always liked the idea behind Musashi. The Getters can only be piloted by people with high fitness/physical scores and IQ, and because the standards are so high, Satome can't really find a third guy who is on the same level as Ryoma and Hayato. An ordinary person who tries piloting one gets beat up so bad they barely survive. Along comes Musashi who pilots the first time by sheer accident, and they end up keeping him, despite him failing every single test, simply because he's so damn tough he can consistently survive in a getter. And since he's such a goofball, he becomes the glue that holds the team together and keeps Ryoma's and Hayato's strong personalities from tearing things apart.
So yeah, that kind of makes it obvious why he's the one to die.
I never cared much for Musashi because as much as you toot his horn, he still was your typical Getter 3 pilot who got very little time in the spotlight and wasn't terribly engaging as such
What really peeved me about him, though, is him replacing a far more interesting idea: Saotome piloting the Bear himself. I want to read the version of the story where Saotome never stops piloting it.
Daikessen's Black Getter is made from spare parts from various Getters.
In real life, it's based on the first Black Getter rough design, which had a different head and wears a scarf, created for the OVA. That design was rejected in favor of the current OVA version.
That rough design was touched up a bit (different head and removal of scarf) and chosen for the game version.
Now for Shin Getter Dragon from Daikessen, it is the original design for the OVA's Shin Dragon. An executive thought it would be cool if it was combined with Uzara, which led to the OVA design.
There's just something about Getter Dragon's design that I really like despite it being so old. It feels like a design that was just ahead of it's time but it lasts forever in appeal.
>hating on cute girls
This is the problem with uppity mananime fags.
Ken Ishikawa actually had a sense of humour, so he'd most likely approve.
What's next, you're going to shit on Robot Girls Z too?
Daikessen's got him covered anyway, fortunately for him
>Getter Emperor is threatening the universe
>everyone teams up to fight Emperor
>When they "deafeat" Emperor, they realize that this was all a ploy to make everyone team up to take on a real incoming threat
>it's an army of aliens and dinosaurs led by Kamui
I'm pretty new to /m/ and I wanted to start reading the Getter Robo manga much like >>13839581. I know the reading order and I have the whole series downloaded... but I got confused when I was digging for information on Getter.
What is Getter Robo Saga? From what I can tell, it's the best way to read the series. It apparently has new pages, revisions, and a better(?) ending to the overall series. This is where I get confused. According to MAL, Getter Robo Saga is 9 volumes and 69 chapters while the 5 mainline series together are 17 volumes and 73 chapters. Maybe the Getter Robo Saga has more pages per chapter or something.
Should I download Getter Robo Saga and read that, or stick to the original? If I should read Saga, then where do I get it from?
Getter robo saga is what we got scanlated, so you don't have to worry about anything.
In other news, pic related seems to be happening
Getter Robo Saga is a compilation of all the Getter Robo arcs, plus it also has added pages.
These added pages are done for the compilation (to make things more coherent) by Ken Ishikawa's late style, so it can confuse you if you see the artstyle switch between that style and his original 70s style.
I'd stick to the original. The new chapters are woeful. It's like watching the Star Wars speical editions. You're best saving that shit artwork until you reach the later mangas where it's ALL shit.
Everyone else seems to have it covered, though I would advise that you ignore anything >>13852117 says now and forever. He's the one special retard every fanbase is obligated to have, and his opinions ought to be ignored as such.
also Devolution's c1 is out
I want to get into getter robo
what should I watch /read first
Im specially interested in that 90'a anime
I wanted to reply to you with that image of the animator guy saying he loves to draw cute girls and the producer guy complaining that they have to pander to otaku, but I can't find it.
