I got bored of Escaflowne after like 6 episodes but then I watched the movie and it was pretty good. Should I try the show again?

I feel the same way I think Escaflowne is overrated but I thought the movie was a nice departure.
Either way the movie is very different from the series but give the series another shot if you really want to

Try Dunbine instead.

No. You made it obvious that you are the type of persn that prefers the pretty art style that the movie provided than the actual story-telling of the show does better than anime programming.

Most people are just the opposite. They love the show, but don't like the movie.
The movie is not awful. In fact, it looks great. It's just that fans get upset because they bastardize the source materiel. It's so loosely based on the show that it begs the question of why they bothered calling the movie "Escaflowne" to begin with.
To answer your question, OP: Don't bother with the show. The movie and the show are very different from each other in visuals, story, and tone and should be considered independent from each other.
