You can skip it and just read the wiki page if you want, but watch ZZ does make for a more complete experience.

CCA doesn't rely too heavily on ZZ outside of a few questions that if you don't ask them, won't matter. Like 'why's axis here?' and 'where's Haman?' You should be fine with a simple wiki page skim.

There are a bunch of references to ZZ in Unicorn though. It's nothing too serious as none of the principle characters carry over outside of Bright. ZZ does give more weight to a major character's back story though, but again, it's nothing that will ruin Unicorn for you. Episode 4 will ruin Unicorn for you far more than not watching ZZ.

You know, sometimes I feel sorry for ZZ. Every other day we have a "Can I just skip ZZ?" thread.

I don't feel strongly about it one way or the other, but I don't think it wasn't that bad. Just more lighthearted than the other UC entries.

The second half of ZZ is actually good as well. It is allot like Zeta with a weaker/less interesting cast, and less sense of urgency and danger. Lots of neat Neo-Zeon MS and battles, a pretty good Gundam plot, etc it is definitely worth watching,

Chill was a better Puru than Puru on every level that matters. Funnier, cooler, more useful, characters in show actually gave a shit about her and she had a better desig. And she did it all 3 years before hand to boot. Xabungle as a better mix of comedy and seriousness than ZZ too. Tomino brought his A-game to Xanbungle and it showed. ZZ was just his run off while he concentrated on Char's Counterattack.

So did I. Skipping ZZ for CCA is like skipping a nice meal so you can get to the big dump you have to take afterwards faster.

I have now finished it, and I'd say don't skip it. It's difficult to get through up until around the 20 episodes in, then it really picks up -- but those first twenty episodes are REALLY difficult to get through. Then the series really improves.

Definitely worth it.

Look duder, if you want to experience the Universal Century the way the creator intended you'd be better off skipping Unicorn, but if you don't wanna do that, then that's fine too.
However, you do NOT skip ZZ. I'm not even a rabid fanboy/defender of ZZ, it's definitely the weaker of the first three Gundam TV shows, but it's still super solid. Even if you don't like the goofy first part, you will probably like the last part a lot more.
