This show was great, I enjoyed every second if it.
Are there any others like this?
New Getter is my 2nd favorite, aftrer Armageddon. You should check it out like >>13737013 says, the others except the original toei cartoon, are pretty good. I mean the original is OK I guess but it wasn't for me.
No, because as far as the other Getter anime go, aside from the obvious original->G, you don't need to have experienced anything else. It'll help with some references here and there, but that's about it
Toei original and G
Shin vs Neo
The OVAs are properly subbed, the 70s Toei partially are, but are more crabsticks than actual legitimate subs, and Toei Go is completely unsubbed
>this little left
Fuck. I can already tell I'm gonna miss this series now that I'm halfway through the manga.
I wish they actually used Getter 3, it never gets fucking used, even in water situations.
I watched the original Toei first and let me tell you its pretty jarring to go from:
Ryu: hotshot athelete
Hayoto: smooth mccool motoman
Musashi: judo homer simpson
Ryu: hyperviolent yakuza killer
Hayoto: terrorist facing off friends
Musashi (Benkei) : former rapist monk
Its like if the kids from happy days had a revamp where they are all bloodlustin maniacs
They're completely different characters with no relation to each other, just because they have the same name means nothing in regards to how they'll act.
It's a bit stupid but I suppose it's to be expected.
He kidnapped a couple of girls while he was living in the mountains and had some fun with them. Don't know if I'd call him a rapist though.
>He kidnapped a couple of girls while he was living in the mountains and had some fun with them. Don't know if I'd call him a rapist though.
New Getter sounds... pretty vulgar
Or gawk at other Ken Ishikawa manga.
People who are done with Getter should definitely get onto Majuu Sensen, Kyomu Senki and other Ken Ishikawa manga etc as they get scanlated, since there are a lot of references to those in the OVAs.
lol that page is basically a prequel to 5000 Kounen no Tora which has nothing to do with New Getter. There's also some stuff in Jakioh Bakuretsu with that guy reincarnating.
You should've posted a Yagyu Jubei Dies or Makuu Hakkenden one
>Reading Getter Robo Arc
>get to this page
This cannot be the end. Please tell me this is some bad joke.
WHY WOULD ANYONE FUCKING DO THIS WHY?
i can probably guess how it was gonna finish.
>kamui succeeds in destroying the getter
>baku dies for no good reason
>takuma pilots some new super getter to destroy the getter emperor
>hayato is still the only one that lives
>You told me you didn't want me! You told me you didn't need me!
>I need you now.
Holy shit, that was stone cold. Is there anyone as based as Gendo? Does he stay this great?
Ironically, Gendo is very similar to Go-era Hayato which predates Eva by like five years.
All the greats go out via heart failure after a dank game of golf
>As Crosby and his party headed back to the clubhouse, Crosby said, "That was a great game of golf, fellas." At about 6:30 pm, Crosby collapsed about 20 yards from the clubhouse entrance and died instantly from a massive heart attack.
Needless to say, Ishikawa must have been damn good at golf to punch out so young.
The Toei anime was obviously a collaboration but was handled by different teams, and the OVAs are OVAs, meaning they just use the characters and ideas from the manga (and other Ishikawa manga) in ways they find appealing. None of the anime are faithful to the manga because none of them were supposed to be.
When you say the Toei animation is "parially subbed" what exactly do you mean? Is it fully subbed but just really bad or like only subbed halfway.
I'm also interested in the game mentioned in here earlier but if theres no guides to translate at least the menus while playing I don't think I'll even bother since it'll be way to much effort just to play. Is there anything like that?
Part of it is actually subbed, while the majority of it is crabsticks, which can't really be called subs outside of comedy value. You're overestimating how difficult Daikessen is to play, it's really simple. I can't read moon and can play it fine. There is a guide up on GameFAQs though, if you really need it, which admittedly you will when you decide what special abilities to give your player character
>OVAs contain the exact same characters
>used in the exact same ways
>Despite this they are somehow completely unlike their source material
We really shouldn't let the mentally impaired on this board. It would improve the posting quality quite a bit
>Present one way in which the OVAs are different other than the continuity
>present a way the OVAs are different other than the single most important one that also marks them as worse than the manga
I know you're upset I implied the OVAs aren't that good since they aren't, but come now.
What are the parts of Getter you like and dislike the most? What's your favorite machine in the series, and what is your favorite iteration of the series?
>The Getter Go team fights the dinosaur empire instead of the original team
>OH GOD ENTIRE STORY RUINED
Getter pilots never have enough personality for me to care when they're replaced
The Getter pilots have plenty of personality though. On a similar note, I don't really care whether it's the original team or the Go team, since they're both fine and interesting in their own ways.
I'm not sure I understand this question. What do you mean exactly? Like a favorite scene or character?
Probably Getter 3 but I like theGetter asa whole sinply based on the idea that it requires teamwork to pilot and can adapt to different situations.
I can't decide yet. i'll watch the OVA's before I do. But based on the manga alone I guess i liked the first volume of the manga the best. I still love he other volumes sure, but I feel like they hardly give time for the main getter pilots to bond and actually start working as a team before killing them off or something.
From the thumbnail it sure looks like Faiz
I liked everything as a whole to be honest but what I probably liked the most was Musashi because Judo and I guess I dislike Benkei the most for being such a non-character and an overall shitty replacement for my favorite character. Seriously he's literally just there, I didn't even care when he died, I don't think any of the other characters did either. Hopefully the ovas give him more character.
He's not in SvN until the end credits sequence as a reference or New, though he is in Armageddon and is alright there. He's still the Musashi replacement, but he has a slight bit more personality at times from what I remember.
They do, and I like them, but they're not deep characters and were never meant to be. The closest were Kei and Benkei in Armageddon, and even they are pretty broad strokes.
They're fun, but it never feels like anything important is missing when they switch one pilot for another. Benkei in New doesn't bother me at all, doubly so because he has more character than almost every other Getter 3 pilot besides Armageddon Benkei, which is probably because he breaks Getter 3 tradition and doesn't die or get replaced
There's also Ikari, but he was only supposed to be a temporary replacement until they figured out a way to get Benkei back, so that's pretty excusable. At least, I think so. He still had a vague cowardly kind of personality though, come to think of it.
Yeah, Ikari. He is supposed to be there to fill the seat until they get Benkei back and then everything is dandy from there. Doesn't work out that way, as you know, but that's his purpose.
>There's also Ikari
Misa Ikari literally had more character and a better introduction than Benkei. He was the overly polite rookie, despite his huge size, and ended up being a good pilot. Too bad he RIP'd hard when the lab exploded.
Musashi fixed Ryou's Getter machine back when he was introduced. But Musashibou does have plenty of Gai, given that they had him play out the scene where Gai tries to destroy the Getter.
He shaved it?
It's Tayel and he had a really strong presence for being introduced one volume before the last. In fact, it's pretty much factually wrong to say he didn't have much personality given how he acted in the story.
Tayel doesn't appreciate your shit. Also, it seems you can only pilot Getter 2 if you
>are a literal genius
>have a tragedy involving a family member
>tries to destroy getter after realizing what it did
>thinks hes not good enough to pilot the getter but loves it anyway
>gets character development with the help of go when he finally manages to pilot it
>defends his mechanic buddies from an american wrestler twice his size and kicks his ass hard proving hes not a weakling
>everything involving her brother, particulalrly the fact that someone died because of her hesitation to kill her brother
>getting that new resolve as a result
>romance with the dirty racist white trash
>helps develop the character of the racist
Sho was quiet and tried to stifle her emotions, but was really hotblooded underneath her cold exterior. She was traumatized by her past and became a soldier because of it, however she's basically fearless and pretty reckless at times.
Gai was a burly mechanic who really loved his job, he was pretty shy but deceptively intelligent and perceptive. He wanted to be a pilot but didn't meet the physical requirements, however his technical skill made up for his reaction faults. When pushed into a corner or when his friends were hurt, he became ferocious. He's generally more pragmatic than Go and less wild than Sho.
Character traits. We're talking personality, not plot developments. Neither of them stood out as having enough charisma or uniqueness to make those moments interesting other than Gai trying to destroy Shin Getter
Not really? For starters he actually gets to talk at several points in the manga and share his viewpoint. He gets a couple of scenes were he shines. And more importantly the scene where the getter absorbs him.
He had about as much personality as musashi if you ask me.
Most of the getter pilots don't really last a long time but thats besides the point because the manga kinda stops being monster of the week after musashi dies.
>and more importantly the scene where the getter absorbs him.
Benkei gets such a scene as well. I mean he is a Getter 3 pilot
Come to think of it, I didn't really feel as if Sho really had hotblood underneath her stoicness like Hayato, other than maybe the end of SvN. Other than that, she was either an emotionless blank slate or SHE'S JUST A GIRL
The only conclusions I can draw is that it went over your head or you're just purposely making strawman arguments.
Kei is cute.
Manga and OVA Sho are basically complete opposites, so I enjoy both. It's not like where they just made a bad rendition of a character, they just made a totally different character so I'm okay with it.
This scene was highly informative.
That scene was awesome and had the comedic timing worthy of a Dynamic Pro OVA.
She grew out of it. It also wasn't autism, it was some sort of emotional trauma (which autism isn't). They called it autism because it was Japan in the 90s. At first I thought it was a way of making the series more gritty and edgy, but then I remember that autism wasn't even a legitimate diagnosis before the last ten years or so. A lot of doctors would just go "uh, autism," and prescribe drugs, or they would completely ignore what is today called autism.
Why do people think Go Nagai is actually the one taking the decisions?
Look at the list of people on board.
Go Nagai is merely a figurehead.
>Hien anything like Nagai finishing Ishikawa's story
>that huge false equivalency
Hien isn't officially part of Getter Robo Saga anyway.
Go just put his family into his business. They don't control what he does. His brother Takashi is probably the only really important person on that list as far as executive decisions go.
Also why are you talking to yourself
"Go put his family into his business"
Nagai put his family into his business so that he doesn't take any real decisions, which is what I said in my earlier post. and you re-affirmed it with that sentence.
>This show was great, I enjoyed every second if it.
I thought the same.
The artstyle was great, and not something you see everyday. The action, music, designs left a great impression on me, which is good, because it was the last Getter OVA.
It was also one of the better sold shows of 2004.
If somehow they decide to make a new Getter anime, I think nips will be more receptive to it than they were to Mazinger.
>"Go put his family into his business"
Does not imply that Go Nagai is just a figurehead and this his family runs the business. English is not your primary language, stop arguing. Also, you have no proof for your conspiracy and are thus fucking retarded. Kill yourself, amigo.
I guess there's a chance of Devolution getting animated if it gets popular enough, but even that seems unlikely.
Surely they'll have to animate something in the next few years. Kawagoe is the only director Dynamic Planning is relying on these days, so it's not like he's super busy. Besides, Toei can't keep Robot Girls going forever, there's only so many vintage robots left to turn into girls, never mind Getter.
I wonder if getter rays can fry some space rat vermin.
