Hello Everyone,

It's that time once again! Below we will list our criteria to fill and topic discussion to cover. Our own efforts have pushed progression to the next stages. The script and a few designs need finalization but overall we are excited with updates!

Our recruitment has brought us to many boards and the most difficult position to accommodate proves to be our dedicated Background Artist. Granted our atmosphere is deep space exploration while taking place within ship interiors or even your own mecha cockpit. The mix of industrial and science fiction will be necessary.

Another key point is the illustration for entire setting itself, the CSS Via Argentum needs more concept art! We plan to fully show the proud flagship along with a map for navigation. Additional details described below.

Ambition has brought us this far and I'm pleased to announce that we've had steady interest for a fully voiced cast. Auditions have been set and the results will be posted once we arrive at our deadline. The thread can be viewed here. We have very specific voices in mind and this is no doubt one of the hardest decisions yet.

It's fairly exciting especially with current script progression! We're receiving lots of auditions daily. The final designs for Shiro and Lt. Oz will be needed more than ever. We are planning very carefully but our schedules will be more available as we come closer to deadline!

Maybe give Sarah some bulbuous wristguard things which capture her arm movements in order to control her mech? I'm picturing something like the Miss Sazabi's forearms, slightly modified to resemble the Paradis's own arms, or the Vegan suits from Gundam AGE. The ship is close in scale to a small city (Think Las Vegas) however the vessel shares similar roles to large life supporting colonies. Originally designed to house aquatic dwellings for Lemurian and Nereid alike for prolonged galaxy exploration. Since then, the CSS Argentum has been modified for human use, the powerful carrier no longer resembles its original form or any other ship. Many of the foreign and powerful technology systems also have been altered or removed completely for extensive testing and failed attempts of reverse engineering.

It is a carrier/training/diplomatic/research vessel. It does house a variety of civilian, military and even corporate bodies with different interest and levels of access. So maybe close to a thousand if we're including the civilian population too.

A thousand's barely a skeleton crew for a ship comparable in size to Las Vegas. A Nimitz-class CV, for example, already has 3000+ crew (not including the air wing), and it's only 300+ meters long and operating in a far less hostile environment than deep space.

Granted, military vessels carry more crew than civilian vessels of the same tonnage, but the Argentum's a military vessel first & foremost anyways.

That class of ship is already decades old and most of the crew is needed simply for maintenance or repair on faulty equipment. The Argentum was expected to be the pinnacle for simplified deep space exploration. It has yet to deploy at full capacity.

New technologies and advanced automation will result in less manpower needed. We can tweak the numbers but the entire vessel is self sustaining and it's size is to accommodate for many different facilities needed to habitat both mecha and nereid alike.

Amatheia is a very long way from home, hailing from the entirely oceanic planet of Ordest Myrdith deep in Lemurian homespace. As the sentient coral hive of Lafial it's become the oldest hive in the system, a fact it enjoys playing up to everybody despite age being irrelevant to hives.
As part of the extended mission of the Lemurian's patronage of the emerging human race to prepare them for the galactic stage the hive has had little chance to return to Lemurian space resulting in extensive modification of it's original outfit to make use of local equipment.
A mixture of handheld Terran long range weapons and the Madas dei Fiat artillery system limits the hive's combat role almost entirely to extreme ranges. WHITE HOLES ARE NOT A JOKE, although the size generatable by Amatheia is relatively small there can still be many unforeseen consequences to a system if used without proper precautions taken.

i actually tried some sketches to get the organic look but honestly still can't get it right

but it would probably fitting for him to have more decorative shell than the other hives (which makes it easier to slip in reference since Nereid are straight up sentient super robot, maybe there's a hive that looks like Mazinger or Tetsujin)

Infodumping with a story element that'll give us limited sensor detection ranges so we can have space combat that's roughly analogous to naval engagements in the earlier half of the 20th Century. It could use refinement; see if it works for you guys. (pic not related to subject)

Mahan Particle/’Ether’
A previously undiscovered, naturally-occurring particle formed either:
Option a: In the aftermath of a supernova explosion at the galactic core.
Option b: The momentary absence of a black hole’s event horizon.

Properties: Emits light after absorbing certain types of EM radiation. In regions with low to average particle densities, this takes the form of an atmospheric haze, as if one was on Earth during twilight with only the brighter stars visible.

This severely limits sensor range and communications, since the particles absorb the relevant forms of EM radiation while producing light (and light pollution—hence why stars are barely visible when stargazing in a city), thereby allowing for space combat analogous to naval battles in the earlier half of the 20th Century. This includes stealth vessels (submarines) in regions where particle density is high enough that it's akin to travelling within a cloud or fog. It also allows for pirates & boarding actions since the best trade routes will invariably pass through zones with very high particle densities.
Reduces the strength & effective range of directed-energy weapons to a degree dependent on particle density.
Optional: Some kind of additional property which dampens fission & fusion weapons.

History: The solar system was saturated with these particles when the wave front from either the galactic core explosion or misbehaving black hole swept through our spiral arm. Communications between Earth & its various planetary colonies was effectively severed, with the entire sky blanked out by the luminous ether. Global temperatures rapidly dropped as much of the Sun’s heat was blocked, precipitating various disasters on an unprepared world which was only partially alleviated by high technology. Cut off from Earth & the Sun’s life-giving rays, the various colonies had to fend for themselves.

Eventually, the solar wind cleared away most of the particles from the Sun out to the asteroid belt and the days of heatless light ended. Regular communications was re-established between Earth and its colonies, the days grew warmer again, but the damage was already done and the seeds of discontent & rebellion germinated amongst the colonies.

Distribution: While they are present all over the solar system, particles are more concentrated in the vicinity of celestial objects and Lagrange points and often take the appearance of gigantic, virtually opaque cloud banks. Due to the influence of the solar wind & gravity, particle densities are much higher beyond the asteroid belt. As such, its effects are proportionately greater, to the point that visibility & sensor range can be reduced to hundreds, even tens of kilometers’ distance. It is currently distributed along the ecliptic plane in a roughly torus-shaped zone from the asteroid belt out to the Oort cloud. The inner planets are mostly free of these particles.

Details: Various forms of EM radiation is absorbed by the particles to a greater or lesser degree, causing them to fluoresce. The particles also improve heat transfer efficiency since it functions as a transfer medium in a limited manner. However, this produces a luminous haze which, under the right circumstances, can be detected visually at significant distances. This is easily overlooked in regions with high particle densities, as heat from solar radiation causes a constant, low-level ‘glow’ which can be pervasive enough to be effectively opaque.

This property also has a detrimental effect on directed-energy weapons. Lasers, particle beams & such diffuse & dissipate at a rate dependent on particle density. Optionally, the energy absorbed by the particles will eventually, at sufficient levels, be discharged in the form of ‘lightning’ which can have unpredictable effects (everything from harmless fireworks to frying everything on a ship). It also lets us have dramatic scenes where pirate ships come out of a space cloud with lightning arcing all over.

Optional: The particles either dampen a nuclear reaction or absorbs a nuclear explosion, discharging the energy in an unpredictable manner.

Popularly termed the ‘ether’ particle, these can be produced artificially in small quantities. Space vessels can also influence their behavior in a limited manner by means of modified heat radiators. These can induce a ‘light curtain,’ the equivalent of a smoke screen, in the ship’s wake. This is often used by escort vessels to screen larger ships from direct observation.

You just have to keep that idea alive and have a goal in mind. A little funding never hurt anyone either. We could use a wiki like feature but I was hoping to at least have a glossary or index in the game. It was easier before the archives died. I saved all the information and it's about a wiki's amount of content.

We should look at the new year with a new goal in mind. We're still working on the written material and the first portion is approaching the first real combat scenario. There will be space pirates shenanigans. We like to see all the artwork, drawings, input. Also how would one go about having a wiki?

There seem to be programs for that. Tiddlywiki and Zim wiki and whatnot. There's bound to be an easy-to-use on for all this, but copy-pasting through entire archives is going to be dreary work.

What do you think of this rough draft of our young, daft hero?
I'm gonna also put the Exald head in there, each character illustration will also have a panel or two with details of their mech/s or whatever.
Problem is, do we have a finalized or more or less universally accepted Exald design? Even just the head would be fine so I can slap it in here.

Also, the current scan is actually not complete as my scanner ain't big enough for it, Barion's head is a bit cut out, I'll need to scan two halves and then attach them via photoshop but that isn't a problem.

Well, by "looked more like this" I just meant "her hair used to be longer and darker". Blue hair dyed blond wouldn't really work, and you'd need to keep some hair spikes so she's still recognizable.
