I'm revising the filter chain for this boxset in order to better counter the hideous edge enhancement Sunrise applied to it. After doing Outlaw Star, it's kinda hard to go back to seeing super DNR'd 35mm...

So I'm also fiddling with an unsharp mask, which I never considered to give me good results, but tuning it to an unusually high radius gives me interesting contrast results. This particular frames gives the impression that it simply darkens the colors; however, let's look at a different frame.

Well really I post these because I want to make things like this are okay with people. I never want to overfilter if I can avoid it, and being a Blu-ray, I like to go light. Obviously turn-a needs a little "help", but I need serious adjustments that involve color to be community I approved.

Noted. I've reduced it and am testing some clips out with actual encodes. It's a 50/50 chance at this point. I'd like to reduce some of the murkiness of the transfer, but I'd rather let it be if it's better off that way.

The contrast is a little too strong... Don't see anything wrong with the colors and contrast in the original shot. I'm on a calibrated screen btw

Calibrated here as well. The contrast isn't wrong, per se, but the DNR has sort of a murky side effect in my opinion. It should be a bit "crisper", and what I was basically trying to do was a form of local contrast enhancement. For unrelated reasons, I have disabled the filter.

Jesus christ, box 2 is awful. It looks more DNR'd than box 1 if memory serves correct.

Is it really worth going to all this painstaking effort on a show that doesn't really have any character detail or SHADING in the first place?
